A Junior Thesis Directed by @julia.dougherty and Written by @mal.0e | A Fantasy Father-Daughter Film
POSTS STORIES REELS
At Daggers Dawn isn’t just a film- it’s a protest. Written by @mal.0e and directed by @julia.dougherty, Daggers Dawn explores what life is like for a young woman and her father exploring the bounds of family and one’s commitment to their country. This film was pitched and selected as one of @ftpsas’s Junior Thesis films to be produced in Spring 2025. Having such an ambitious project means having only the most dedicated and talented crew, with @tommie.freundlich as Producer, @falon_renee.cr3 as our Cinematographer, and @johnbirdfilm as our Production Designer! Our dreams of making this film can be supported through our several fundraising efforts, one of which being the @gofundme in our bio! Any and all support, even a simple Instagram repost, is deeply appreciated. This film will be great, especially with support from all you creative and beautiful people! - - - #dagger #dawn #film #shortfilm #indie by @daggers.mov
At Daggers Dawn can’t be made without the generosity of people like you all! We have been ecstatic by all the support already- between the follows and nice comments in our posts, we couldn’t be happier! Our @gofundme is only 2.6% completed, and any donation (even $1) goes a long way for us! Between booking locations, purchasing costumes and makeup, and budgeting to feed our cast and crew, a lot of work is left to be done. To get into the technical side, our school’s wonderful @ftpsas program will match our crowdfunding efforts up to $500. That being said, we have to raise $500- and that’s no easy task. So we are asking you! If you could spare even just $1, consider supporting our passion project. - - - #canon #nikon #fairy #lotr #cottage by @daggers.mov

The bedroom set for “At Dagger’s Dawn” built by myself, my co-PD @johnbirdfilm, and our art PA @made.line.virginia! We did have to tear this whole thing down mid-shoot in the middle of a thunderstorm, but we got it back up! (Thank you to the extra hands on G&E and cam team for making that happen) by @daggers.mov
✨ Location Scout V.S. Production Design ✨ Shout out to our Co-PD’s @johnbirdfilm & @mjennette.mov (and our Art PA @made.line.virginia) for making our dreams come alive on screen! We’re not done yet! We have one last pickup day this week. If you’re still interested in supporting our efforts, our @gofundme is linked in our bio. Any profit we make goes towards our film festival submissions fund. We can’t wait for you to see our lil film :) - - - #shortfilm #fantasy #studentfilm #medivailprotection #wcuftp by @daggers.mov
Prop eyes that I made for a movie directed by my lovely friend @julia.dougherty @daggers.mov In the fantasy world of “At Dagger’s Dawn” there are siren-like creatures called “Lyris”, who are persecuted and their eyeballs used as currency. I <3 making props by @daggers.mov
A senior in WCU’s Film and Television Production program, John Bird specializes in production design and props. From the small town of Mount Olive, NC, attending WCU has been eye-opening. Believing it’s the little details that matter, he is enthusiastic to work on a set where world-building is prioritized and beauty is found in every corner of the frame. This is the second film John has collaborated with Julia on as a Production Designer. Their shared vision for what goes on the screen is sure to astound. - - - #pd #art #productiondesign #pickles #indie by @daggers.mov
We’re doing it again! This coming Wednesday (2/11) we are setting up at the Catafount to fundraise! We will have clothes, goodies, and some Knick-knacks! Stop by and say hi! You never know what you might find :) We accept Venmo and Cashapp, but you can always donate to the @gofundme via your preferred payment method. Same as last time, we will have TWO $5 racks, a $10+ rack, and TWO $1 bins (fill a bag for $5)! - - - #yardsale #garagesale #vintage #clothing #depop by @daggers.mov
Tommie is a creative from Boone, North Carolina, and a senior in the Western Carolina University film program. This will be the seventh project she has helped produce at Western and she is ecstatic to be a part of this project that so profoundly explores a woman’s story. She has loved getting to collaborate with this above the line team on previous projects and is so excited for “At Daggers Dawn” to come to life! - - - #producer #student #filmmaker #foryou #filmproduction by @daggers.mov
Meet our Writer! Mallory Jennette is a Senior Film & Television Production major at WCU. Spending her childhood in the suburbs of Raleigh NC, Mallory grew up a lover of stories. She’s thrilled to be working with Julia Dougherty on her Junior Thesis project, as they joined the program at the same time and have grown close as friends, collaborators, and now roommates! Mallory has written many screenplays in her time at WCU, and looks forward to creating one last world in her final semester. - - - #writer #writerscommunity #art #artist #fantasy by @daggers.mov
Meet the Director! Julia is a junior Film & Television Production major with a minor in Religion and the director of this project! She grew up in Woodstock, GA loving movies and dreaming of storytelling. Julia created the story of At Daggers Dawn with the intention of representing what it feels like to not be heard. She is so excited to have the chance to direct something that is heavily female led and looking forward to collaborating with so many wonderful human beings! She collabed with John Bird on her previous Directing project, “Lillian,” which is currently in post production and has had the wonderful opportunity of being best friends and roommates with Mallory. Falon and Julia are new collaborators and Julia is looking forward to working with such a talented cinematographer. Tommie and Julia have collaborated on multiple projects and she knows having her as the producer will bring the structure this project needs. Overall Julia is so excited to bring to life all these crazy ideas she has floating in her head! - - - #director #shortfilm #fantasy #knight #philosophy by @daggers.mov
