[NARRATIVES OF MAKING]
I’m pleased to be part of NARRATIVES OF MAKING, an exhibition presented by @maj_van_der_linden as part of the inaugural Berlin design festival, Currents @currents.berlin

The exhibition brings together women working across contemporary art, collectible design, and material-based disciplines, exploring the diversity of contemporary making and the many ways craftsmanship informs artistic and design practices today.

Each participant presents a distinct body of work shaped by individual materials, methods, and ideas. While some practices are rooted in sculpture or fine art and others in collectible design or functional objects, all share a deep commitment to craftsmanship as an essential part of the creative process.

Rather than defining strict categories, the exhibition celebrates the diversity of contemporary making and the many ways craftsmanship informs artistic and design practices today. Through material, process, and experimentation, the works reveal personal narratives alongside broader social and cultural questions.

Together, they challenge conventional distinctions between art, design, and craft while opening new perspectives on contemporary material culture.

Presented in collaboration with Wohnen AM TACHELES @wohnen_am_tacheles and proudly part of the inaugural Berlin design festival Currents.

Explore the work of Dahm Lee. Working and living between Berlin and Korea, Lee’s mmm series is part of her practice exploring the potential of objects, moving beyond conventional ideas of aesthetics or function, and considering how materials and form shape perception and interaction.

These objects may serve a functional purpose, such as wall shelves, or wine cooler, however their unique form and materiality blur the lines between sculpture, object and functional design.

I’m grateful to be part of [BREWED], a collective exhibition hosted by @onelessdecision , alongside 10 talented designers and makers.

this exhibition showcases objects relating to our most commonly drunk brewed beverages, coffee & tea.
Brewed celebrates the habitus of coffee & tea, and how objects surrounding this culture influence the drinking experience.

Opening on 26 July, from 11- 2
Marrickville, Australia

I will be presenting mmm flat-form(2) in at [BREWED]

A tray-like object composed of identical units, mmm flat-form explores repetition, alignment, and spatial flow through the continuous arrangement of its elements.

Part of the mmm (massive metallic mass) series, this work extends the possibilities of volume, rhythm, and surface through hand-bent, layered steel bars.

트레이를 연상시키는 평평한 구조의 이 작업은 동일한 유닛들이 반복적으로 연결되며, 하나의 확장된 수평 구조를 만들어냅니다.

〈Topografien des Gebrauchs〉

Gebrauch ist eine Spur in der Zeit, die sich in Dingen ablagert. Durch Berührung, Gewohnheit und wiederholter alltäglicher Nutzung entsteht Schicht um Schicht eine Form. Dies ähnelt dem Prozess, in dem Wind, Wasser und Zeit eine Topografie aus Bewegung und Spuren entstehen lassen.

Die beiden Künstlerinnen übertragen Linien und Rhythmen, die sie in der Natur finden, in unterschiedlichen Materialien, ausgehend von den gemeinsamen Themen Vase und Buchstütze. Schwarzer Ton trägt die sanften Kurven erodierter Hügel, während silberner Stahl Spannung und Gleichgewicht der Landschaft in Linien sichtbar macht.

Topografien des Gebrauchs ist eine Ausstellung über die Spuren von Landschaften in gebrauchten Dingen. Blumen arrangieren, Bücher stützen Dinge berühren – in diesen alltäglichen Handlungen verbindet sich das Objekt mit dem Leben und wird zu einer Topografie aus Gebrauchsspuren.

쓰임은 사물이 사용된 시간 속 하나의 흔적이다. 손길과 습관, 반복되는 일상이 켜켜이 쌓이며 하나의 형태를 만든다. 그것은 바람이 지나간 자리, 물이 깎아낸 자국, 시간이 남긴 움직임이 모여 지형을 이루는 과정과 닮아 있다.

두 작가는 화병과 북엔드라는 공통의 주제를 바탕으로 자연에서 발견한 선과 리듬을 서로 다른 재료로 옮긴다. 검은 흙은 침식된 언덕의 완만한 곡선을 품고, 은빛 철은 풍경 속 긴장과 균형을 선으로 드러낸다.

《Topografien des Gebrauchs》는 사용되는 사물 안에 스며든 풍경의 흔적에 관한 전시이다. 식물을 꽂고, 책을 기대어 두고, 손으로 만지는 일상의 행위 속에서 사물은 삶과 관계 맺으며, 쓰임의 흔적이 쌓여가는 하나의 지형이 된다. taken in Großer Garten by @dahm.lee
