Obiekty @dahm.lee z serii mmm (massive metallic mass) eksplorują relację między materią, formą a przestrzenią. Gięte, rytmicznie nawarstwiane płaszczyzny stali tworzą zwarte, niemal architektoniczne struktury, w których wizualny ciężar materiału kontrastuje z subtelną grą światła i cienia.

Na pograniczu rzeźby i collectible design, prace artysty redefiniują postrzeganie stali, nadając jej zaskakującą lekkość i przestrzenną głębię.

Prezentowane w galerii @maj_van_der_linden w Berlinie.

Steel, light, and geometry.

@dahm.lee mmm (massive metallic mass) series explores the relationship between material, form, and space. Bent, rhythmically layered planes of steel create compact, almost architectural structures, where the visual weight of the material contrasts with a subtle interplay of light and shadow.

Existing at the intersection of sculpture and collectible design, the works challenge our perception of steel, revealing an unexpected lightness and spatial depth.

Presented at @maj_van_der_linden gallery in Berlin.

Dahm Lee is an object and furniture artist based between Berlin and Korea. Her mmm (massive metallic mass) series has been developing since 2022, built around a simple process of repeatedly bending and layering steel rods. The repeated forms create a dense visual rhythm, with the silvery surface of the metal catching and reflecting light across the curves.

The series has continued to grow into different forms and scales. The same steel rods can create very different shapes depending on how they are bent, layered, and repeated.

Across @currents.berlin, seating offered a particularly interesting lens into the different approaches on view. Chairs, armchairs and stools moved between experimental constructions and more familiar forms, with material, proportion and craftsmanship often becoming the defining elements. Looking back at what we saw across the festival, these are some of the pieces that stayed with us and made us look a little closer.

IF IN BERLIN DON’T MISS:

NARRATIVES OF MAKING — Contemporary Positions from Art and Collectible Design
September 09 – December 19, 2026
An exhibition by MAJ VAN DER LINDEN presented in collaboration with Wohnen AM TACHELES.

This groupshow brings together women whose practices span contemporary art, collectible design, and material-based disciplines. Rather than
defining strict categories, the exhibition celebrates the diversity of contemporary making and the many
ways in which craft informs artistic and design practices today.

Each participant presents a distinct body of work shaped by their own materials, methods, and ideas.
Some approaches are rooted in sculpture or fine art, others in collectible design or functional objects, yet all share a deep commitment to craftsmanship as an essential part of the creative process. Here, making
becomes a language for expression, research, innovation, and reflection.

I am really proud to show my work amongst these extraordinary artists!
Thank you @maj_van_der_linden for your trust and support 🤍

A few things that stayed with me from the first edition of @currents.berlin .

I loved discovering so many Berlin-based designers and galleries and seeing the city’s design scene brought into focus in a new way. Left very inspired — and already looking forward to the next edition.

I am very pleased to be part of the exhibition "NARRATIVES OF MAKING — Contemporary Positions from Art and Collectible Design" @maj_van_der_linden that opened on the eve of the inaugural Berlin design festival Currents, marking the beginning of the festival programme.

Presented by MAJ VAN DER LINDEN, the exhibition brings together women working across contemporary art, collectible design, and material-based disciplines. Rather than defining strict categories, it celebrates the diversity of contemporary making and the many ways craftsmanship informs artistic and design practices today.

Each participant presents a distinct body of work shaped by individual materials, methods, and ideas. While some practices are rooted in sculpture or fine art and others in collectible design or functional objects, all share a deep commitment to craftsmanship as an essential part of the creative process. Making becomes a language for expression, research, innovation, and reflection.

Through material, process, and experimentation, the works reveal personal narratives alongside broader social and cultural questions. Together, they challenge conventional distinctions between art, design, and craft while opening new perspectives on contemporary material culture.

Presented in collaboration with Wohnen AM TACHELES and proudly part of the inaugural Berlin design festival Currents. @currents.berlin
