Hey everyone! ☺️ I wanted to take a moment to share a little bit about my journey and how I got to where I am today. It hasn’t been a straight path, but every challenge has shaped me into the person I am now. Thank you for being part of this adventure with me, I’m excited to bring you along for the ride! 💕🐾

1/1 When I was younger, I was convinced I was going to be a spy. Not just any spy—a spy who loved animals, of course. My imagination was wild, and I was always dreaming of adventure, of doing something big. But as I grew up, reality hit, and I realized I had no true direction. I was always striving to be the best at everything I did, pushing myself relentlessly, but for what? I had no idea what I truly wanted. One thing I did know was that I wanted to attend an HBCU. That part was never in question. The energy, the culture, the legacy I wanted to be a part of it. But choosing a major? That was a different story. Animal science wasn’t a popular choice for many colleges, and the only HBCU that offered it in a way that made sense for me was North Carolina A&T. That made the decision easy, but getting there and staying there? That was a battle of its own. My family couldn’t afford to send me to school. College felt like this massive, impossible expense looming over me, something that wasn’t truly meant for someone in my position. I had already experienced one year, stepped into a new life, made friends, and put in so much effort to then have to just… leave. taken in North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine by @daisytodogtor

2/2 So, I made a choice—I joined the military. I knew it was the only way I could go to school, the only way I could carve out a path for myself. But that choice came with sacrifices. While others were gaining animal experience, shadowing veterinarians, and building their resumes with internships and research, I was in uniform, doing what needed to be done to secure my future. I didn’t have the luxury of those opportunities, and that was hard. It was isolating. It felt like before I had even begun, I was already behind. I didn’t even know that applying to vet school was a year-long process. That realization alone set me back two years. Two years of waiting, of working, of feeling like I was playing catch-up while everyone else was already steps ahead. But here’s the thing: God’s timing is not our own, but it is always on time. I wasn’t behind. I was exactly where I needed to be, even when it didn’t feel like it. In the midst of feeling lost and uncertain about my future, I had a five-minute conversation with Dr. Gentry (if you know, you know) right after taking a biochemistry final on Zoom. In that short time, she got me together so fast, no sugarcoating, just straight facts. She spoke about my future and success as if they weren’t possibilities but guarantees, already set in stone. And from that moment on, everything unfolded exactly as she said it would. I can never thank her enough. taken in North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine by @daisytodogtor

3/3 When I finally graduated from college, everything became clear. For the first time in my life, I knew what I was supposed to do. I didn’t just want to be a veterinarian, I needed to be one! It wasn’t just a dream; it was my purpose. So, I spent the next two years working at a small animal general practice hospital, gaining the experience I never had the chance to get before. I applied to nine vet schools, pouring everything I had into those applications. And when the time came, when I finally got the opportunity to take that next step, I had the means to do s/o to my Nana for the money. Now, here I am. A veterinary student at NC State, following dreams that once felt impossible for someone like me. A dream that seemed out of reach because of my background, my circumstances, my path. But if my journey has taught me anything, it’s this: you can do whatever you want in life. Your options are never limited, no matter what it looks like right now. If you want something, fight for it. Work for it. Believe in it. Because dreams do come true. And as only 2.2% of veterinarians are Black, I am beyond grateful to be adding to that number and paving the way for those who will come after me. 🤎🐾

Week 9 and I’m not feeling sublime 😭 fun fact guys I am actually allergic to all animals, especially cats and horses and anytime I spend a certain amount of days not being home and I come back to Milo. He absolutely wrecks my sinuses :) and I ran out of Flonase, and I had to work at the clinic today, so safe to say my nose is literally running off of my face and it won’t stop! I obviously chose the perfect profession🤓
This week we are learning about cardiology and the respiratory system, which is like ehh okay. I thought learning three weeks worth of material and having an exam after that would be terrible (which it was) but already having an exam on this stuff next week also is kind of very scary. There is no winning in vet school 🤣.
I saw Dr.Dombrowski from the life and science museum, and he literally made my entire afternoon! I’m so happy that I have met him and chose to do a selective there! Remember yall have to use every opportunity that school can give you (that you can handle ofcourse) because you never know how it will change or help your future!
There’s are so many things that I need to get done around the apartment, and tasks that I have to do that I genuinely do not feel like doing and I just wanna scroll on my phone for hours until I fall asleep 😭
P.S- Guys what’s worse, Vet school or putting your clean clothes away that you just took out of the dryer and not letting it sit there for a week and a half 🙂?

Quotes of the week:
“I’m a caniac and it Bo time” - this was me saying this in the Bojangles drive through and it indeed was a humiliation ritual for a free boberry biscuit 😭

Pictures explained:
-My Phone’s first natural high definition good picture

Week 8 and our first exam of the semester knocked out of the park !! ✅
Guys I don’t even remember this week lol I just know I studied my life away and took an exam🤣 We started cardiology which I don’t care for but the professor we had was awesome and I love her/ her PowerPoints! Obviously we finished up Optho and Neuro and as much information as it was (which was ridiculous I know) I feel like it was important stuff to know and I finally understood it so I was happy! We left school at night BOOOO! We have been doing so well at stopping everything at 7pm which has been so new to me but also making me feel like I have a little bit more of a life! I’ve also discovered the best 3rd step of studying is a marker and a whiteboard !! It’s been the best to help me remember and understand stuff, this has been the 4th time in my vet school career that I have changed my study habits 💀
I love my new seat in class and being around the new group they are so smart and very funny 😭 Felix please keep deciding to bake instead of study you are healing class of 28 one treat at a time! Also guys Rebecca Yarros did it again!! I am frothing at the mouth because I can’t read the book until I finish the TOG series. Yes, I know I’ve been reading the series for forever idgaf I’ve been busy ! Also none of y’all were in class on Friday lol it was such a ghost town, and I’ve never seen it like that because I’m usually the one missing it too 🤣🤣
Then there’s the exam lol. When Felix got up at 27 minutes and I was on question 17 I thought it was over for me lmao then I hit flow state and got up out of there. That was the hardest yet easiest exam I’ve taken!

Quotes of the week:
“All my friends have a fib, and when you’re my age you’re going to have a fib too” - Dr.Papich

Pictures explained:
-Leaving school at the night time :(

-I can not WAIT to read this I could cry
-My little baby

Week 7 of school completed and I’m either going to turn into a CNS lesion or an eyeball with uveitis… (which I feel like I still barely understand💀) I was perfectly fine with neurology by itself especially because I actually understood this semester compared to first year where I probably failed every question we had on it and even though there are 1 million eye diseases I felt like I understood that ! Then for some reason they decided to give us classes called “NeuroOphthalmology” and they completely lost me.
I told myself last semester that third year was going to be different and I was going to give myself more breaks and have more fun. Nobody told me when you’re so used to putting school first and not giving yourself any breaks that when you actually do it, all you do is feel guilty about it 🤣🤣! I guess my performance on the exam this Friday will determine how I continue to keep this up💀 I think it’s ridiculous we have 30 PowerPoints on this exam that is probably only going be 60 questions. If one of the questions aren’t: What are the three parts of the uvea?” I’m closing my laptop.
This year just feels so different because in the grand scheme of things I feel like we had class more first year and second year and less breaks, but I just feel like we’re always doing something back to back and let me tell you that clinical year scheduling has ruined my week, I’m so happy it is due tonight, so I never have to worry about it again.
Anyways, this week, we did neurology/ ophthalmology lab on the school dogs, I necropsy chicken, and spoke to actors.

P.S- I love trivia, but OMG those questions are so hard💀

Quotes of the week:
“Seahorse are equine too”
“Mosquito eat horse”
“Nobody told me Gabapentin stinks, it smells like a stinky STROKE”

Pictures explained:
-Grandma coded
-Schirmer tear test
-Pre chicken guts
-More like pre-stressingmyselfout
-Back to back scrub moment
-Go Pack
-Babies first seafood boil
-Cor-kneal edema best trivia team out 🤓
-Milo watching a movie while I was gone 🥹

Week 6 of vet school, more importantly happy birthday to my mommy @oldschool_jewel 🥳🥺
This week of school was so silly because it was a full 5 day week and Tuesdays was the evilest day to exist (as you can see on slide 3). Also making my clinical year schedule… yea so that’s insane and idk how I’m even at this stage of my schooling. I’ve realized I need to follow my heart and what I think is right not what people usually do. Also I still haven’t opened Medtrics lol it sounds too overwhelming and seems like it’ll just ruin my day sooo yea 😭
It’s been nice to understand Neuro especially in comparison to when it was first taught to us because I didn’t understand one thing, like at all so to just be able to get the basics and finally understand UMN vs LMN is enough for me lol.
Then there’s optho… I’m not hating and it’s fine but wayyyy too many diseases with the same signalment and it just makes me upset!
TAU palpation and euthanasia lab was literally a 10/ 10 I learned so much and the models are very well put together. I’m ready for the live thing🤠
Overall, I just feel odd and random, and there are weird breaks and spaces within the schedule and I’m trying to give myself more free time and a life, but I feel guilty about it and then our exam is not until October 2nd which is so many power points away from now, and it’s hard trying to be oh I don’t care about stuff girl when I’m literally care about everything girl so this is just a weird space in my life and I will continue to keep you guys updated because that’s the best way I can explain it🤣

Quote of the week: “Ummmm this is a gift” in reference to her engagement ring from her husband to a client 🤣

Pictures explained:
-Donuts with the dean or just donuts in my belly?
-Milo the love of my life and child
-Me accidentally sleep during 4 hours of optho..
-DIY chipotle bowl at the class dinner
-My very LOWKEY skinny queen
-The coolest cow palpitation thing I’ve ever done
-Practice questions on the TV
-Live photo of Jimothy caught in action
-The Gang

Guys we’re official back in person !! 😭 Week 5!
This week was so evil lol. Fresh off flying back, not having class on Monday, too many hours of Neuro, 1 1/2 days of OSCE practice, and 3 hours and 2 accidental naps during it of the VEA. It’s so nice to be “caught up” which will probably last 2 weeks lol… anyways I’m happy to see all my buddies and I’m thankful we are 1 month in the books !

Quote of the week “Little white shakers” 🤣🤣

Pictures explained:
-Cutie pies
-Me learning how to to an Aberdeen knot
-Going to the actual gym now instead of my living room !
-I’m meal prep girl now
-Post OSCE vibes
-Post ictal vibes
-Trinity got kicked out of the normal people room 🤣
-Bella’s doodles are back 😈
-I’m so proud of myself!!! Can’t wait for my plushie !!

Week 4 of 3rd year/ preceptorship ! 😩
Guys it’s doneeeee! I want to start off by thanking my preceptorship site so much for teaching me more than my brain could handle, giving me a lot of my first, and reaffirming that I want to include exotic animals in my career. I went from having just about zero handling experience and no knowledge of common diseases to walking away with like 55 pages of notes and a comfort level with these species that I am very blessed to have. I would say thank you to Arizona, but no thank you lol you are way too hot and there are no trees. Over these next four days I am really going to try to rest and transform my mind into a more positive mindset and embracing everything that this school year is going to bring. There is no room for worry, only courage and discipline 🙏🏾. The fun is over and school officially begins 🥲

The biggest takeaways from my experience:
-Ferrets stink
-Guinea pigs just want to die
-If you look at a rabbit too long it will go into GI stasis

P.S- I’ve hopped on too many planes over this past eight months 😣 I’m staying my butt home for the rest of the year, and I mean it!!

Pictures explained:
-This is what SQ fluids look like on rads 💀
-Anatomy
-Healing tibia fracture
-CT of broken shell
-My lovely notes
-How many cats can you see? 😜
-My vibe until the 8th 😎
