🔥”You are going to get a lot of ‘No’s,’ but use those ‘no’s’ to light your fire“

Honored to lead such a fiery discussion for the The New York Public Library about Breaking Barriers featuring 4 incredible AAPI founders:

Dalia David
Teresa Ging
Margaret Pak
Kathy Hardy

It has been touching to receive messages from attendees of our panel, “Breaking Barriers - AAPI Women in Food and Beverage”

The statistics look stark:
- According to the World Economic Forum, women founders received 2% of VC funding in 2022

- Out of $500 billion in pandemic relief to businesses, only $7.7Million went to Asian owned businesses

- In the Restaurant Industry, 68% of entry level workers are women, but only 25-38% of management is women

Despite these obstacles, these incredible founders are overcoming adversity to lead their companies

As AAPI heritage month comes to a close, I hope everyone out there continues to break barriers, be proud of who you are, and fight on! #representationmatters

Celebrating International School Meals Day!

Did you know that NYC public school menus feature recipes like White Bean and Pasta Primavera, Kidney Bean Rajma, Kachumber Salad, and Jollof Cauliflower? @wellnessintheschools is a national nonprofit organization working with @nycschools @nycfood to bring scratch-cooked, plant-based, and culturally relevant recipes like these to the lunch menu for all one MILLION public school children in NYC! This program is called Chefs in the Schools.

In honor of this day, WITS teamed up with @chefsmanifesto and the #BeansisHow campaign to celebrate all of the school cooks preparing this nutritious food and talk to students who are tasting and loving it. Go behind the scenes with us at The Anderson School’s kitchen in Manhattan, NYC, with Dalia David of Chefs’ Manifesto, WITS Chef Camillo Sabella @chefcamillosabella, and the NYC School Food Team.

I missed the Calcot festival by a hair this year in Valls, Spain! 😭 I got there 30 min after closing and decided to reap my 🌱🧅 in Barcelona! Maybe next year i’ll have the full #catalunyaexperience ?

#calçotada is beautifully sweet, lightly savory and a touch smokey charred spring onion. for onion lovers and non! it roots for switzerland in vegetable land as a mostly neutral flavor that brings ppl together.

A whole short season of this heritage plant indigenous to Catalan region is being harvested now. Come and enjoy them! @3focs has them in barcelona. Enjoy it w lamb, a good ribeye or on its own dipped in romesco sauce perfection!

not recorded or pictured is me aiming my sandal at the tree to get two delicious oranges. it took a few tries. I think failing to remember to record is the byproduct of gently letting go of so much and in the process, welcoming a quiet life full of joy and serenity.

So here you go, what I do want to share is the moment I sat down to eat these orange treasures.
