WARNING: Cheesy Post

When I was sixteen, my high school allowed boys to take dance class for the first time, and I signed up immediately. Our very first show was a dance concert of Peter Pan, and for some reason my teacher believed in me enough to cast me as Peter—even though I had almost no technique, just a lot of enthusiasm. It was during rehearsals for that show that I truly fell in love with dance. I also fell in love with Peter as a character, seeing so much of myself in him (so much so that I wrote my college admissions essay about it… very cringe 😂).

So when I was hired to understudy Peter Pan in this year’s Peter Pan panto, I was absolutely over the moon. I felt incredibly grateful to join this amazing cast and spend the holidays in Neverland. When I had the chance to go on as Peter and they placed that wig on my head, I was unexpectedly emotional. Until I saw myself in the full costume and wig, I had forgotten just how important this character meant to me. I know it sounds silly but in that moment, I knew just how excited and proud sixteen-year-old Dalton would have been.

Playing Peter was so special and I can’t really put it into adequate words, but I do know it has been a true highlight of my career. Basically, I love Peter Pan, I love panto, and I feel incredibly grateful for this experience.
