Don't think I've fully processed everything from the past week, but let me at least share this 1v1 preselection round before I chicken out 🫠

First time at Oyofe, first time posting any round from an African street styles battle, and most importantly, first time leaving the circle feeling genuinely at peace with whatever I had put out there

My initial goal was mainly to showcase my learnings; grooves/steps/concepts that I've been practicing. But all that shifted when I actually entered the space and met so many inspiring souls. @nancy_nko was one of them — she dropped some gems that eventually shaped my new goal in this battle: to express, not to perform. Merci, mama Nancy 🤍

To @oyofe_official — thank you for creating a space this warm and inviting. This camp was so much more than dance, it was a celebration of different countries, communities, and at the crux of it all, PEOPLE. Being around all of that pushed me to show up even more fully as myself. It was an honour & blessing to have experienced this 🫶🏼

Also shoutout to @septzilla — thank you for the training, the little nuggets of wisdom & for sharing so much of your world and systems with me. The mindset work has shaped this as much as the dance has. Thanks for helping me to discover, unlock and believe in myself 🫂

Imo dance doesn’t always have to be that serious, but I’ve entered a season where it holds a lot more weight in my life than it did before. I'm not where I wanna be, but I'm defo not where I used to be, and that's enough to be proud of (for now) — only up from here, on to the next :) by @damntsh

Thank you @recognizestudios x @legacy.dco & @activegroove for having me to judge at LCDC Open Cat Showcase 💜

To all the crews, much appreciate yall for repping your style, identity & all the unseen hard work bts. Really loved seeing even more diversity this year, with different styles & ways of presenting your craft on the same stage. Beyond those few mins we see, there’s so much training, creating & rehearsing that goes into every piece. Don’t let a result take away from your consistency, love & connection to the craft 🙌 may we keep growing together ✨

This year’s judges showcase, I got to do it with XAFROPACK 🐺💜

Big love to @zainiwolfgang for saying yes despite the tight runway 😮‍💨 & @ohdreyy + @damntsh for getting the training started. Only 2 official pracs together, but I guess that’s what consistent training beyond shows & competitions can build 🤝🌱🫶

Side-quested a lil this weekend at LCDC’s 3v3 battle 🌱

I’ve been putting myself in more of these spaces this year — the goal is to challenge myself; to get comfortable being watched & judged. & if I’m being honest, it’s still hella uncomfortable at times. Coming from someone who’s tryna dig deeper into African street styles, I’m still figuring out how the moves, grooves & essence translate into non-Afro genres and environments.

This is probably the first time I’ve ever felt any sense of accomplishment in a battle in SG, simply bc I stayed true to myself & my movement instead of trying to be something I'm not. I’m not exactly a hip hop don’t stop typa gyal and I’ve drifted from that music over the years, but lately I’ve found real joy in applying what I know to different music genres, contexts & styles.

Also, idk how we made it to Top 16 (got kicked out after tho LOL) but I’ll take it! Thank you @xu3huiii & @im_llam for constantly pulling me into spaces I wouldn't have entered on my own. I love levelling up & gaining experience points with y'all 🫂

If there’s one thing I’ve really internalised this year, it’s that simply showing up can do way more than you think — here’s to more growth in discomfort :') by @damntsh
