the grey area, 2026

i felt the burning most in december.
you didn’t mind the weather.
i followed your eyes as they slipped
to my bottom lip
i bit it, quick,
to build a shelter.
i should have known better.

maybe if i breathe on all the embers
the ones still warm from last december,
your eyes might catch my light,
the heat of coming, going
a door once open, now pulled tight.

we stood there frozen,
with nothing unspoken.
we were both fronting,
mirroring motion—
when you started the word,
but left it floating.

you lifted.
i shifted my eyes slow
to where your shirt
betrayed your skin,
arriving
at a line
we knew was growing thin.

and in that place between heated breath,
where almost lives
and almost dies,
your hands stayed honest,
despite your eyes.
your body is no longer covered in mine.

and though that was awfully fun,
i think i’m done with this space
the grey area,
and all we ain’t say.

late from work (2025), names the suffocating loop when home becomes a pit stop. the second place. with just enough time to brush, rest, and brace for it all again tomorrow. i find it harder to embrace this cycle as night and day begin to look the same. i’m spent while daylight is saved. i try to save some for friends and family, but i get home and don’t have a thing to say. i just want my time, to love, to cry, to play. time not measured by what i’m paid. taken in Rhode Island by @dan__elia

submissive, 2025

yesterday i turned 24. it’s said that 25 is the year when things “click.” but many i’ve asked say it happens at 27, or 31, or 55; that 25 is not when you finally feel solid, but when you start to get a grip on things. so, not a finishing, but a beginning. the pace at which i’m realizing the myriad of ways i get in my own way is unsettling. for example, i’ve been writing about how solid i’ll be by 25 instead of focusing on this present moment.

i’m working on a new series titled “a self-portrait of self-sabatoge.” this is the first photograph titled “submissive”. i’m learning what’s been standing in my way, and it’s often myself.

thank you for the birthday wishes ♥️ taken in Rhode Island by @dan__elia

out of alignment in to awareness, march 2024

i had an over-active heart chakra, it had to be! how could i ask that of myself again? to care for a friend so careless with me. i saw a brother, he saw me in green.
