AYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I finally get to share the news! My next book is called SLY FOXES: TALES OF CUNNING, COURAGE, AND CURIOSITY. Huge thanks to @holidayhousepeachtree and @agentzacker and the @galltzacker team for indulging my low-key obsession with foxes. There's a lot of bad stuff happening these days, my friends, and we are all fighting back as best we can. But believe me when I say there is still some magic in this world...after studying foxes for the past ten months, I can tell you for sure. by @danaalisonlevy

📣HERE WE GO! Mass Freedom to Read is a new coalition that represents Massachusetts parents and readers, authors and creators, libraries, booksellers, and publishers. We believe that freedom of expression, including the freedom to read, is a fundamental American right, protected by the First Amendment.

In the United States, we have the right to access books with a wide range of information and perspectives. We have the right to freely express our own ideas through speech, writing, and art.

In Massachusetts, challenges to library collections, programs, and displays have more than doubled in over the last three years. Massachusetts authors and creators have had their work banned or challenged in dozens of states, and in Massachusetts itself. Massachusetts booksellers have faced harassment and intimidation at their events.

Parents have the right to guide their own children's reading, but parents should not dictate what other people's children are allowed to read. In Massachusetts, with our deep and valued history of patriotism, we know that censorship is the opposite of a patriotic act.

Now is the time for the Massachusetts state legislature to pass a comprehensive Freedom to Read bill that protects librarians and educators from harassment for doing their jobs; and protects authors, creators, booksellers, and publishers from economic harm due to censorship.

Summer Part One!
Been a minute, my kittens, and this summer is winding down, but like any good equinox stan I feel strongly that it is and will remain summer for a little while longer. Still, I can’t deny the shifting of the seasons…the cooler nights and later sunrises, the quieter birdsong and louder crickets. The wheel is turning, and we are all — willingly or not, gracefully or not — turning along with it.
This was a tricky summer…some serious medical challenges for some loved ones, some serious and heartbreaking losses for others, and of course the endless barrage of truly heinous news that, if we allow ourselves to think about it, would drop us to our knees.

And yet.

And yet there are so many lovely things too! And even as we fight book bans and campaign for candidates and register voters for the midterm and help those in crisis, we continue to find and relish our sparks of joy.

So without further ado, here are some of those.
1) home port view

This kid. Lover of rivers, mountains, oceans, and sweet treats. Defender of kittens, championships, and friends. He is truly the best son, brother, friend, and human imaginable.

Sometimes you make a plan months in advance and it comes together perfectly.
Other times the plan fails and you don’t get tickets and you make your peace with it, but then your niece gets a waitlist code at the eleventh hour and your daughter rushes home from montreal to be there and it all comes together.
Last night was a beautiful example of the latter…

It’s been a gnarly few weeks with a series of cascading crises, so the serendipity couldn’t have been more welcome. Thanks universe for dropping the tickets in our lap, and thanks Noah Kahan for singing to us and making the rest of the world disappear for a minute. And thanks @juliamringel @izzy_jk_ and @patrick_trevor_kirby for making it so fun. Boston! by @danaalisonlevy

🍓🌕💕💕💕💕💕

Sometimes I catch the moon in the most extraordinary, superlative, glorious moments, and sometimes they are muted, partly hidden, slightly disappointing but still oh-so lovely in their own right. I suspect there is a lesson in that metaphor, but I’ll not worry about that now. I’m just going to keep gazing at the moon, waiting for the next one. by @danaalisonlevy

FRIENDS!!!!!
In the midst of the maelstrom of truly ghastly news I am so excited that the MA House just passed the Freedom of Expression bill that protects book creators, educators, librarians, booksellers, students, and everyone who cares about the freedom to read. (The MA senate passed their version last fall and we’ve been pushing hard to move it forward ever since!)
Now the House and Senate will conference to finalize the bill, and then — come on, Gov Healey — it will be signed into law!!

Huge enormous thanks to my comrades-in-arms at @massaabb and @massfreedomtoread who have worked so hard to move this along.
