Great write-up about Dance Consortium and all the work we’re doing to support the touring ecology and UK dance sector in this week’s @TheStageUK! A big thank you to Lyn Gardner for the write-up and for joining us on the road during our recent @CirqueEloize tour, and to @WolvesGrand for being such brilliant hosts! We are thrilled to have been shortlisted alongside our latest donor Reeta Chakrabarti for this year’s Achates Philanthropy Prize, presented by @culturalphilanthropyfoundation! 🙏🏼✨

Launched in 2016, the Achates Philanthropy Prize is the national campaign to promote the democratisation of cultural philanthropy. Now in its eighth cycle, the Prize celebrates first-time supporters of culture, nominated by the cultural and heritage sector charities themselves, across the UK. The Individual Philanthropy Award celebrates individuals or trusts making their first gift to the nominating cultural organisation, at any level of giving and across all art forms.

This year, Dance Consortium launched its first ever Support Circles to encourage individual giving as a way to further help the very best international Dance reach and engage more people across the UK and Ireland. For more information about how to join one of our Circles, visit the Support link in our bio.

As part of Birmingham Weekender’s press launch, I caught up with Mathilde Petford, on behalf of @switch_radio who has been working as part of a collaboration with São Paulo Dance Company, Dance Consortium and Birmingham Hippodrome.

The curtain raiser programme provides a sneak peek of the performance, twice, before taking to the Hippodrome stage in February 2027. The latter performance is also audio-described for the visually impaired.

It was great catching up with Mathilde and the performance was phenomenal! #birminghamweekender #radio #dance #birmingham @bhamweekender @brumhippodrome @bullring @hsbc_uk by @danceconsortium

As part of Dance Consortium’s ongoing professional development work to support the Dance sector and touring ecology, we run a series of Away Days for our member venues (and often a few guests!) This year we were delighted to be in Leeds, hosted by @NorthernBallet, and our Chief Executive was joined by Technical Directors from the length and breadth of the country.

As well as getting to visit and explore the inner workings of the fantastic venues in Leeds, including the Grand Theatre (@grandtheatrels1) and City Varieties Music Hall (@cityvarieties), the group discussed and shared experiences of international touring, technical staffing, health and safety, environmental plans, and a host of other opportunities and challenges facing the theatre sector.

The group was also joined by Tom Gibson from @HaworthTompkins who presented several recent capital theatre projects that they have worked on. The presentation focused on flexible spaces, sustainable practices and accessibility, and gave the group lots of food for thought.

Huge gratitude goes to Wilky and the team at Northern Ballet for their generosity, great food and impeccable hosting. And thank you to everyone that attended for their insights and input. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year. by @danceconsortium

We were proud to partner with @_CreativeAccess last year to host Dance Consortium’s first administrative traineeship. This role was generously supported by the Mo Siewcharran Memorial Fund, which supports creative organisations and is driven by its mission to champion people from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in publishing, music and theatre.

Head over now to our website’s ‘News & Features’ page to read our latest article, written by our brilliant trainee Abena Adu-Boateng, who discusses her experiences and reflects on the seven months she spent working with Dance Consortium. 💜

We were thrilled to have had the celebrated critic and author Neil Norman write this brilliant feature for our @lesballetstrockadero tour programme this year!

Neil Norman started out as a rock and film critic for @NMEmagazine, before becoming the film critic for @TheFaceMagazine and has written for every newspaper from the @Guardian to The @SundayTimes. He was film critic for The Evening Standard and currently divides his time between writing about theatre and dance and contributing to film programmes on @SkyArts. He has written a play about Montgomery Clift, a critical biography of Robbie Coltrane, the book of Nicolas Roeg’s film Insignificance, and a novel, Cat City.

As always, the full programme can be viewed and downloaded via the tour’s main page on our website, and you can also now read the piece over on our website’s NEWS & FEATURES page.

📣 Dance Consortium is inviting expressions of interest from colleagues with specialisms in either Marketing & Audiences or Finance & Corporate Governance, to join the Board as Independent Directors.

@lesballetstrockadero are here and they're helping us to Paint the Town Tartan!

The 50th anniversary tour of the all-male comedy ballet is here this Friday and Saturday, and they've got some dandy looking scarves to show off during their shows 😏

Don't they look affa bonny? 💝

Paint the Town Tartan is @abdninspired's city centre campaign to celebrate Scotland’s FIFA World Cup 2026 journey and bring a splash of tartan, colour and excitement to Aberdeen ahead of kick-off.

🌿 Dance Consortium is committed to working with our members and international touring companies to reduce environmental impact across all our work. This #GreatBigGreenWeek, we’re celebrating our achievements including a Green Dance Award nomination (One Dance UK Awards 2026), cutting waste by replacing masses of PVC tape with Velcro fasteners, using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil as fuel for our truck, and our ongoing partnership with Ocean Bottle (@weareoceanco) to provide reusable bottles to touring artists.

We supply all visiting companies with reusable Ocean Bottles for each company member - as demonstrated here by the fabulous @lesballetstrockadero! - and our venues provide water stations next to the stage. Dancers drink LOTS of water, so this reduces plastic waste from single-use bottles of mineral water. So far, this partnership has funded the collection of 390,000 ocean-bound bottles, removing 4,434kg of plastic waste.

We’re also celebrating progress by our 24 member theatres, including:
-@Brighton_Dome reducing single-use plastics;
-@MarloweTheatre Canterbury powering the equivalent of 213 shows with solar energy and reducing electricity use during their Panto season by 70% (oh yes they did!);
-@Mayflower.Theatre saving energy through historic refurbishment of their 97-year-old chandeliers;
-and @NorwichTheatre installing a Living Wall on the side of their fly tower.

For more information, visit the “Greener Touring: Dance Consortium’s Environmental Action Plan” page on our website (direct link in our bio, within our LinkTree).
