One of the highlights of all things radio this year was being granted the press pass to the annual Birmingham Weekender, on behalf of Switch Radio.

Birmingham Weekender is a fun-filled, three-day event every August Bank holiday, containing everything from dance to puppetry, to orchestra. With my press pass, I had the privilege of interviewing Matt Evans, the Head Of Events about what makes Birmingham Weekender so special, delving into how the event champions disabled talent, how performers travel far and wide to perform in Birmingham and much more.

As well as this, I spoke to Mathilde Petford, the Birmingham Hippodrome’s Young People and Community Manager on the collaboration between the Birmingham Hippodrome, Sao Paulo Dance Company and Dance Consortium, that were part of the Curtain Raiser Programme.

Lastly, I spoke to Emma Stenning, the Chief Executive Officer of City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, who gave me an insight into the wonderful CBSO In The City Festival, containing powerhouse vocals from the CBSO Chorus, a warming tribute to the late Dolly Parton and an opportunity to let the public play the role of conductor!

All of these interviews have been aired on Switch Radio Breakfast, and can be found on Switch Radio’s social media, as well as my own. Thanks so much to Birmingham Weekender for showing us what Birmingham can do, and special thanks to Switch Radio for giving me, out of all of us in the team, the pass to go out and do this! Loved it!

As part of Birmingham Weekender’s press launch, I caught up with Mathilde Petford, on behalf of @switch_radio who has been working as part of a collaboration with São Paulo Dance Company, Dance Consortium and Birmingham Hippodrome.

The curtain raiser programme provides a sneak peek of the performance, twice, before taking to the Hippodrome stage in February 2027. The latter performance is also audio-described for the visually impaired.

It was great catching up with Mathilde and the performance was phenomenal! #birminghamweekender #radio #dance #birmingham @bhamweekender @brumhippodrome @bullring @hsbc_uk

I’ve officially graduated from The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) with a degree in Management for the Creative Industries BA (Hons) 🎓

Looking back, it’s incredible to reflect on everything this journey has given me. From travelling to Norway and Hawaii, touring with Dance Consortium, producing shows in prestigious venues like the Philharmonic Hall, and being on more TV and film sets than I ever imagined, to working with Modern Sky record label and Sound City Festival, every experience has shaped me both personally and professionally.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who supported me along the way, my lecturers, classmates, friends, family, and everyone I had the privilege of working with throughout my degree. These opportunities have given me invaluable skills, unforgettable memories, and lifelong friendships that I’ll always cherish.

I’m also excited to share that I’ll be starting my next chapter as a Production Assistant with BBC Introducing, developing new technical and editorial skills. I can’t wait to continue learning, growing, and beginning my career in an industry I’m so passionate about.

Here’s to new beginnings! ✨

A huge thank you to @danceconsortium for an incredible few months as part of the Future Leaders Programme. ✨

Throughout the programme, I had the opportunity to meet inspiring industry professionals, build new connections, gain insight into the operations of a touring dance company, and learn from people shaping the future of dance.

I’m leaving the programme feeling inspired, with new ideas, valuable connections and experiences that I’ll carry with me as I continue to grow in my career.

Thank you to everyone who made this such a rewarding experience💜

June Theatre Memories. 🎭

We’re halfway through 2026 now and this is my sixth consecutive monthly round-up video. I set myself a challenge this year to make one of these every month and I’m honestly surprised I haven’t missed one yet! 😅

June was such a varied month, featuring two dance shows, a classic musical and three plays. I’m currently mid Edinburgh Fringe planning and have lowered my in-person commitments slightly, but it’s been such a joy to see a few new shows and revisit some old favourites over the past couple of weeks.

From start to finish…
1: A return to @oliveronstage : one of my favourite musicals in the West End right now. ❤️
2: Nikita Kuzmin: Supernova on the hottest day of the year so far. 🥵 This production was dazzling! ✨
3: The Trocks at the @marlowetheatre … it was such a joy to watch them perform again during Pride Month. 🩰
4: End of the Rainbow starring Jinkx Monsoon as Judy Garland. 🌈 @sohotheatre
5: I’m Sorry, Prime Minister in Canterbury with my Dad. 📚
6: Joe Tracini’s utterly brilliant solo show ‘Ten Things I Hate About Me’ at the @hazlitt_theatre . 🧠

I hope you’ve all had a lovely month! I look forward to hearing about any plans for July. 😊

@lesballetstrockadero are here and they're helping us to Paint the Town Tartan!

The 50th anniversary tour of the all-male comedy ballet is here this Friday and Saturday, and they've got some dandy looking scarves to show off during their shows 😏

Don't they look affa bonny? 💝

Paint the Town Tartan is @abdninspired's city centre campaign to celebrate Scotland’s FIFA World Cup 2026 journey and bring a splash of tartan, colour and excitement to Aberdeen ahead of kick-off.
