POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Before ✨Best of the Best✨ made its way to Netflix, Palak Sheth, aka @palakpalooza, and her team were building the very South Asian dance competition that elevated the circuit. They created a space where our music, movement, and stories were celebrated by our own community long before they reached the screen.

Having Palak teach the ✨Best of the Best✨ Bollywood dance class in Chicago brought it all full circle, bringing the energy and spirit of the original competition back to the dance floor.💛✨🤍Much love and a BIG thanks to everyone who joined us to dance, cheer, and reminisce the music and community that raised us!🫶🏽💚

Dance lives here... because it always has.

Before the reels, the algorithms, and the smartphones, there was just a 6-year-old girl making up routines in her living room. Swipe through to see the journey that built this page—from Bharatanatyam and Janet Jackson routines to the college dance scene and starting communities across the country.

I might not have the HD video proof of the early days, but the muscle memory and the passion are right here in everything we do today.

Thank you for being part of this next chapter! ✨ by @danceliveshere

Teaching dance regularly was my recommitment to my mind, body, and community. Bc dance isn’t just good for your body, it boosts moods and can reduce dementia risk by up to 76%. And if you’ve ever been a consistent client of mine you know that you come for the calorie burn but you stay for the community we’re building. So what are you waiting for? Join me Wednesdays at 7 starting this week! Sign up at the link in bio. taken in Menomonee Club for Boys and Girls by @danceliveshere

When @netflix asks you to partner for #bestofthebest in Chicago, you go all out!

We filled the room with nearly 100 dancers, starting off with my Bollywood fitness class to get the adrenaline pumping, before diving into @joyakazi’s official choreography from the film.

Dance has always been about connection, passion, and showing up for one another. To look out and see a room full of people pouring their heart, energy, and love into every step brought me SO MUCH JOY.

Huge gratitude to everyone who came out, and a massive thank you to our organizing team for making this happen: @netflixgolden @browngirlmag @pri.planned.it and @bolly_hero !

So would we make the team?

Had so much fun learning @joyakazi’s choreo for #bestofthebest. The best part was performing it with the sibs. 🧡🧡🧡

Thanks @pri.planned.it for organizing this awesome class in Chicago, @bolly_hero for the opportunity and @ravigee for the photo/video. taken in Visceral Dance Center by @danceliveshere

Best of the Best comes out on @netflix Sept 18th.

In our discussion about the original BOB competition I learned that the founders always knew the South Asian dance scene deserved a global audience and a movie about it would be made some day. They just didn’t know it would be named Best of the Best.

As a dancer, this is a HUGE deal. It not only lets the world into a piece of the South Asian community but showcases dance as a REAL passion, not something to be pushed aside. From logistics to marketing to ensuring all dancers are taken care of, hosting a dance competition should be celebrated as should all the dancers who perform and compete!

When I got to college, the pipeline from taking dance classes as a kid to joining a high school dance team to performing with a competitive collegiate dance team was already in place.

Bhangra teams, Raas teams, Bollywood-fusion team, already existed for years. We had something to look forward to - there was community, culture, long-lasting friendships, a pre-professional dance experience we could in our future. This was definitely my experience going from Raas/ Garba to a Fusion company to high school cheer team to a @ddnlegends team.

Last week, I got to sit down with @palakpalooza and @chatmina481 and it really helped shine a light on what that landscape looked like before this ecosystem was already built. It also got us excited about the Best of the Best @netflix movie premiering soon!
