Happy National Dance Day 💛

This piece is my senior solo that I performed in December of 2024. Which has just been sitting in my camera roll collecting dust for almost 2 years now. It’s taken me a while to even find the courage to watch this entire thing because of all the chaos that was happening in my life at that point in time. I had dedicated this piece to my dad in his memory, and for a long time I felt that I hadn’t performed my best for him. I hesitated watching it so long not wanting to relive any of the pain I endured while choreographing or just simply grieving not just him but the overall change happening in my life.

While looking through my camera roll today and finding this video, I’m just so proud of this girl. Proud of all the obstacles she overcame, all the loss she experienced in such a short period of time…. And how despite it all, she continued to show up, keep going, and shine her light.

In reflection, sometimes we get so caught up in what we think we could’ve done better or differently, that we forget to recognize how far we have come. And I know my dad is proud of me no matter the outcome.

“Dim to Light”

🧠: Me
💃🏾: Me

Concept brain dump: What does it feel like to lose track of time with a loved one? To try to focus on one thing and get distracted? To get lost in your thoughts. Daydream while in reality. Reminisce on past experiences? Loose focus and track of time? Stand in silence yet your surroundings are so loud. Dissociate. Feel free in the mind and body. Regain focus. Concentrate on the present rather than past or future. Journey of finding oneself again. Finding the light. Resolving the inner battle of reflection and self-doubt. Finding those bright things within the darkness. Finding the balance of one’s surroundings and purpose, gaining light again.

This summer I had the opportunity to spend two weeks as a Teaching Artist with @thestarsoftomorrowprojectinc , representing one of my dream/favorite companies, @emerge125 under the artistic direction of @treafisher !!

Stars of Tomorrow is a youth development program that uses the arts to create a space for young people to learn, grow, build confidence, and express themselves. We traveled to Williamsburg, VA and Baltimore, MD, learning about the history of the surrounding areas, and exploring the ways history and arts continue to connect. I had the opportunity to bring dance into their experience through movement classes, and creative exploration.

While in dance class, we explored jazz dance, what it is, where it originated, its history, and its different styles. Along with contemporary, composition, and improvisation where at the end of the semester they created their own dance in small groups! But more than anything, my biggest theme for them was CONNECTION. Connection to ourselves, to each other, to movement, and to our ancestors. And learning how dance has always been a way to communicate, tell stories, and carry messages through generations.

I am SO proud of these students for being open-minded, willing to try new things, and stepping outside of their comfort zones. Watching their growth from one class to the next was honestly one of my favorite parts of this experience.

Being able to do this with EMERGE125 made it even more special. I first took Tiffany’s class back in 2023 while in Canada and immediately fell in love with her movement, her philosophy, and the energy she created in the room. To now have the opportunity to represent EMERGE125 feels so full circle. 🥹

A huge THANK YOU to Tiffany for thinking of me, believing in me, and trusting me with this opportunity. And to Brian, Bijoux, and everyone involved with Stars of Tomorrow, thank you for welcoming me with open arms and making these two weeks so special.

This experience was truly a dream come true, and I’m so grateful I said YES! I’m more than excited for what else is to come. ☺️💜

It’s funny how some of the best opportunities are the ones you never see coming.

Over the past couple of weeks, I had the privilege of teaching a few dance classes at the Samurais Summer Camp with National Karate MMA in Summerville. And I’m so grateful I got to be a small part of these kids’ summer!

Getting the chance to step into a new space and connect with these kids through dance was such a rewarding experience. Watching them learn, laugh, and step outside of their comfort zones reminded me just how powerful movement can be. It’s never just about learning steps—it’s about building confidence, encouraging creativity, and creating a space where kids can simply have fun and be themselves. I hope that even if it was just for a little while, I was able to brighten their days and leave them with smiles they’ll remember.

A huge thank you to Andrew Maness for thinking of me and trusting me with this opportunity. It truly means so much that you believed in me and invited me to be part of something so special. This was an opportunity I never expected, but one I’ll always be thankful for.

I’m continually reminded that saying “yes” to unexpected opportunities can lead to some of the most rewarding experiences. Here’s to sharing the joy of dance wherever it finds me.🥰 taken in Summerville, South Carolina by @dancer.de

Being a dance teacher is so much more than teaching steps and choreography. It’s pouring your heart into something you’re deeply passionate about and then getting the privilege of watching it spark something in someone else.

There are definitely long days, moments of doubt, and times when you wonder if all the hard work is making a difference. But then you see their faces light up when they finally nail a skill, gain confidence, make a new friend, or simply have fun doing what they love—and suddenly every bit of it is worth it.

Watching my students grow, believe in themselves, and truly shine is such a blessing. Knowing that I get to impact their little lives, even in the smallest ways, is something I never take for granted. Their smiles, laughter, and excitement are what keep me going and remind me why I love what I do so much. 💕 taken in Charleston, South Carolina by @dancer.de
