ZANG X DANS

Waiting for the Barbarians is een theatrale explosie met zangers EN dansers! En dat brengt meteen een hele andere energie in de repetitieruimte. De zes dansers die vanuit Club Guy & Roni meedoen aan deze opera schudden de boel lekker op!

Rehearsals are underway for Waiting For The Barbarians at @reisoperanl with @club.guy.and.roni and we’re having an absolute blast.

I’d like to take a second to thank the coaches who helped get me to this position. Richard Peirson @pinkygrammm, Erika Gundesen @erikagundesen, and Paul McKenzie (too cool for IG). Getting over 2.5h of Philip Glass into my head has been a crazy challenge for the last few months and I would be a million miles further away if it weren’t for this team’s help.

It would be incredibly remiss to ignore the contribution to the preparation process of @bethkhh, my rock.

Yes I am wearing a rubber ring as part of the costume. Yes it is a challenge. Yes it will look fantastic.

KIJK MEE – de repetities zijn in volle gang...

In Enschede wordt druk gerepeteerd met de zangers van Waiting for the Barbarians.
In de eerste akte zien we hoe de Magistraat (Dan D'Souza) worstelt met zijn meerdere Colonel Joll (Charlotte Hellekant) en zijn gevoelens voor de Barbarian Girl (Lilian Farahani).

Waiting for the Barbarians is een indringende opera over macht, angst en het spanningsveld tussen ‘wij’ en ‘zij'. Centraal staat de vraag: hoe ver mag je gaan om jezelf te verdedigen als je bang bent – voor die ander? En wie is er hier eigenlijk ‘barbaars'?

Unbelievably excited to be preparing this role right now. An incredible story perfect to be revisited for our times. If you see me with a vaguely blank expression on my face for the next few weeks it’s because I have nearly three hours of Philip Glass going round in my head.
