Recently we took a walk on the farm loop for our monthly team meeting. It was a chance to discuss the upcoming Fruit & Forage edible walking trail thanks to @maearthstudio (first planting this Saturday!), and check out some of the work done in the silvopasture and agroforestry paddocks. It'll be great to see this whole loop bursting with new tree life in years to come.

Next Gen Racer 🏁🏎️✨

Flashback a month ago to shooting with Flashman Racing. A family three generations deep in racing pedigree, with a rising star en route all the way to F1 Academy.

Fresh on the track, Lily is fast — and I mean FAST! It was a challenge keeping up with her and trying to capture her on camera.

First time shooting motorsport, with the mission of creating images to honour her newfound journey into professional motorsport.

Don’t be fooled — these kart shots are just showing where she’s come from. She’s set for things much faster. 🏎️💨

Grateful to the Flashman family for trusting me to make these moments matter. And together, we did. 🙏✨

Ko ngā Taonga Pūoro te reo o te taiao. 🤎

Sound has always surrounded us.

Long before words were used to tell stories, the world was already speaking through the voices of the whenua, te taiao, and all living things within it.

Taonga Pūoro invite us to reconnect with this understanding — that sound is not simply something we create or hear, but something we belong to.

With every breath, vibration, and note, there is an opportunity to acknowledge the relationships between ourselves, our environment, and the mātauranga carried through generations.

To truly hear the *reo o te taiao*, we listen not only with our ears, but with our eyes, our hands, our feet, and our hearts. We notice the movement of the wind through the trees, the rhythm beneath our feet, the textures of the whenua, and the feeling carried within each moment. This is where true *hononga* begins.

Sometimes the deepest understanding comes not from what is spoken, but from what we make time to listen for.

Mangaroa Farms is turning degraded pasture waterways into thriving ecosystems of regeneration and renewal. In just over 3 years, many of the waterways on what was once dairy farm land have been fenced, planted, and now thriving with new life.

These densely planted riparian margins filter sediment and nutrient runoff before it reaches the water, shade and cool the stream for tuna [longfin eel] and kōura [freshwater crayfish], and hold the banks together through winter flows.

The work continues one stretch at a time, and there is always room for more hands.

Our beloved radish microgreens are now certified organic through @organic_farm_nz - a big milestone for the farm as it's our first organic certification. A big thank you to Cam and Tyler for seeding and nurturing these little ones, and the certification process.

Small veges, big standards. Grown in living certified-organic soil and harvested just across the paddock from the Farm Shop / Kete Kai.

Last night was one of the coldest nights of the winter, with ice in the cow troughs and the whole valley under a blanket of frost ❄️

Our winter residency team was out early anyway, hot water bottles and all, finishing the recently planted trees by protecting them with mats and guards to support their early growth stages. In the mix are oaks, chestnuts, poplars and natives interspersed.

These oaks specifically are fast-growing, high-performing species, selected for timber. They also have less impact on the land than traditional pine forestry, and will do a great job of carbon sequestration too.

These young trees are also the first ones turning pasture into a permanent planting site, chosen so we can watch and learn over decades.

The solstice has passed, and Matariki is here - marking the start of Māori New Year, crossing the threshold of shorter days and the cold, chilly rain.

The silver lining is that it's the perfect time for gathering together with warming food and nourishment that comes from those slow meals by the fire. We trust you and your whānau had a nourishing time over the long weekend.
