Now that the Fall semester is about to start, I think it’s the perfect time to share some of the great events I had the privilege of being part of as an officer of @wia.ucf !

To start things off strong, here’s one of the highlights from the spring, if not the biggest one: WIA Speaks with the one and only Robert Lence!

I had the privilege of having Robert as my Story professor at the CalArts SAR back in 2023, and it was such an honor to host him after all this time and get to learn from him once again.

During his visit to UCF, Robert gave us two amazing lectures on storytelling and the artist’s journey. He topped the first one off with a workshop designed to resemble a real story meeting at a major studio. It was so much fun!

Lightbox was so amazing as it always is! I am so grateful to be part of such a loving and supportive community, and having the chance to come out here and meet you all is priceless. There’s nothing like it!

Hi!
For a long time I didn’t feel like myself when drawing, but I’m slowly finding myself again.
I just put so many expectations on my art and wanted to impress others or feel accepted by others so much that whatever I was drawing would always get lost in the way. I feel like I’m recovering from that though and realizing that drawing is the best thing that has ever happened to me, it always was and always will be.

I’m so thankful for having been able to go. Sometimes I feel like I lose sense of why I want to do this but all you lovely people always find ways to remind me. Ty!!

Puede que Venezuela haya entrado en su capítulo más oscuro hasta ahora, incluso con todo lo que hemos sobrevivido. Esta dictadura nunca nos deja de sorprender en las maneras más horribles, quitándonos libertades que nunca cuestionamos, violando derechos humanos como si no fuera nada (como siempre). Más de mil personas encarceladas (o más bien secuestradas) por protestar, por ser voluntarios en el proceso electoral o simplemente por subir una historia en donde llaman a Maduro lo que es: un dictador. 23 muertes confirmadas en manos del “gobierno”, todo en la primera semana de protestas.
¿Algún día nuestro sufrimiento será más que una estadística, o más bien una noticia más que es anónima para el resto del mundo? Todo un país está desangrándose; lo ha estado haciendo durante años.
El hecho de que ni siquiera tendría la libertad de publicar esto en Venezuela, temiendo por mi seguridad o la de mi familia, es ridículo. Solo puedo enviarle fuerzas a todos en Venezuela.

Venezuela might have entered its darkest chapter yet despite everything we’ve been through already. This dictatorship never stops surprising us in the most horrible ways, taking away liberties we never questioned, violating human rights as if it was nothing (as always). Over 1000 people detained (or rather kidnapped) because they were protesting, volunteering in the electoral process or simply because they posted an Instagram story calling Maduro what he is: a dictator. 23 confirmed deaths at hands of the “government”, all within the first week of protests.
When will our suffering be more than a statistic, or rather an afterthought that’s anonymous to the world? A whole country is bleeding and it’s been doing so for years.
The fact that I wouldn’t even be able to post this if I were in Venezuela, for fear of my safety or my family’s, is ridiculous. I can only send strength to everyone in Venezuela right now.
