UCF BFA THESIS SHOW- So proud of my former CalArts Extended Studies student DANIELA TORRES, now soon to be graduating from the University of Central Florida! I made it up to Orlando last week to see her “Animation & Visualisation BFA senior thesis exhibition” at the UCF Art Gallery. Got to see her excellent student film! As well as her other classmates’ films! Saw lots of great work and filmmaking! Was glad to be there to celebrate with Daniela, plus with her wonderful family, fellow graduates and friends! Here with DANIELA and her friend and mentor AMY. 🎉🌟✨👩‍🎓

#lbx2025 was so much fun i can’t even begin to describe it!!! i had an absolutely amazing time meeting so many new friends and having so many inspirational conversations. i also had so much fun with @danielatorresart and @hayleyxcreatess as we wandered around pasadena together :3 i had a great time last year as well, but this year i left feeling like i’m truly a part of the animation community rather than just a visitor. my heart is full of gratitude and hope for what comes next for me, and i can’t thank everyone enough for giving me that feeling.

if i met you at lbx this year, please let me know so that i can be sure to follow everyone back!!! i want to see more art from all of you guys >:)

Here are Robert and Christina’s top must-have food recs in Santa Clarita! (Part 2!) 🍔🌮🥘

1.) For anyone visiting LA, you gotta check out the iconic @innout! They’re a Californian staple with delicious double-double cheeseburgers, animal style fries, and milkshakes! They also provide free hats! Go ask at the front, and they’ll hook you up with some swag.

2.) Another great spot is actually outside of Santa Clarita located in North Hills is a food truck called @leostacostruck! Their street tacos and piñas are one of the best we’ve ever had and are at a great affordable price! Highly recommended for quality authentic tacos and when you’re on budget!

3.) And finally, for vegans and any lover of Mexican food, there is a fantastic restaurant in Santa Clarita called @lavegancharrita! Their service and dishes are remarkable! A must-try dish recommended by Robert is their molé chicken! The meat is so tender and the sauce is an explosion of flavor! One of the best I’ve ever experienced in Santa Clarita!

After a long day of hard work and classes, be sure to take a break! Eat great food and kick it with friends!

For me, what makes CalArts so special are the people. You’ll make lifelong friends on your journey. So be kind, have fun, and enjoy good food! ✨

Our first guest speaker in the 2023 Summer Animation Residency was none other than our own teacher: Robert Lence! 📖 ✨

As a professional storyteller, he shared with our students his own amazing life story! Robert was a student in the CalArts Character Animation program where he made his film, Simon. Because of this, he was recruited by Pixar and was responsible for create make the first CG animated feature film in history: Toy Story!

Robert is a gem within our program. He’s a inspiration to us all and we’re grateful for his kindness, teachings, and top food stops in LA!

His presence is unforgettable like his catchphrase, “Oookay!” 😎

Had a blast at Little Tokyo with our 2023 CalArts Summer Animation Residency students!! 🍜⛩️📚

Our teacher, Pixote Hunt, taught us: “To make art, you must get a life!” and that’s what we did!

Our students had ramen for the first time at @daikokuya_ramen! We bought rare imported Japanese books in @kinokuniyala! Met the legendary LA icon, #arthurnakane! And ate sweet #taiyaki at @somisomiicecream!

I remember back in 2019, when my T.A. brought my class to Little Tokyo, and it was an unforgettable experience! It’s an honor to for me pass the torch to the next generation.

So what are you waiting for? Go out and have fun! Make new friends, create your own memories, and eat some ramen! 😎🍜
