A La Jolla residence where light, materiality, and coastal spirit work in balance. Our latest residence featured today on AD Italia.

The home tracks the rhythm of the Pacific, pairing refined craftsmanship with relaxed California coastal living. Every element was considered as a tactile journey through space, from bespoke furnishings crafted with exceptional artisans to architectural gestures that capture and reflect natural light.

Thank you to our client, Hill Construction, our artisans, and the editorial team at Architectural Digest Italia.

“UNLV is a big part of my story. I didn’t graduate, leave Las Vegas, and build a career somewhere else. I chose to stay in Southern Nevada. Being able to return to UNLV to teach, mentor students, and stay involved in our local design community has given me a chance to show the next generation that great architecture with a national and international presence can come from right here in Las Vegas.”

The internationally recognized architect and College of Fine Arts Alumnus of the Year, Daniel Joseph Chenin, ‘02 ‘05, has built a practice inspired by Southern Nevada while mentoring the next generation of designers.

Meet Daniel at the link in our bio.

The experience of living in a home can shape the architecture from the inside out. For @danielchenin, that thinking comes from years spent designing hospitality environments where every element of the guest experience had to work together.

His residential studio carries that same principle into the home, bringing architecture, interiors, landscape and procurement together under one design vision.

Each project begins with the client and the site rather than a predetermined aesthetic. Chenin develops multiple ideas internally before presenting a single considered direction, allowing the design to evolve with clarity.

That approach can produce dramatically different homes, from coastal retreats to desert residences, while maintaining a consistent focus on spatial experience, material depth and the relationship between architecture and its surroundings.

A little sneak peek at something new we’ve been working on…

Introducing Kallisto, a residence shaped by a classical language, distilled into something quieter, more elemental and distinctly of its time. Familiar forms are reimagined through light, shadow and carefully composed moments of arrival.

Rooted in the past, but designed for the future. More to come soon.

KAMARU | Studies in Landscape and Form

Before architecture becomes building, it is studied through line, shadow, proportion, and landscape.

These images explore KaMaru as a series of relationships, between architecture and terrain, mass and void, shelter and exposure, light and shadow. The house follows the contours of the desert rather than standing apart from them, allowing its layered forms to emerge from and recede into the landscape.
