For this new exhibition, @morcharpentier brings together a selection of works that explore the multifaceted nature of the sacred. Whether experienced as a space for healing, a political gesture, or a way to reconnect with the living world, this concept moves beyond traditional religious belief to become a powerful lens for understanding the contemporary world.

The final room explores the sacredness of nature through the raw power of the elements and renewal of the living world. Daniel de la Barra’s triptych revisits the 19th-century Romantic concept of sublime, where nature served as an overwhelming force exposing human vulnerability, by picturing tempestuous storms to highlight the ocean’s untamable nature in the face of commercial and military exploitation.

We are pleased to announce that Daniel de la Barra will join mor charpentier as a represented artist.

Daniel de la Barra, born in Lima, Peru in 1992, He Lives and works itinerantly between France and Spain

Working across painting, video, and installation, de la Barra explores the potential of fiction and political imagination as tools for questioning and transforming the power structures that have shaped histories and territories. His practice examines the global consequences of extractive models and the colonial dynamics that continue to influence relationships between land, resources, and communities.

Through his works, de la Barra creates spaces of reflection and transformation, challenging narratives of domination and exploring new forms of coexistence beyond established systems of exploitation.

His work has been presented internationally at Casa de Velázquez, Madrid; La Casa Encendida, Madrid; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Madrid; La Maison de l’Amérique Latine, Paris; Delfina Foundation, London; Real Academia de España, Rome; Fundació Miralles, Barcelona; and Museo Central, Lima, among others. He has recently been invited to participate in the 2026 Malta Biennale. In 2027, he will be a resident at the Jan Van Eyck Academie in Maastricht.

We are very happy to welcome Daniel and look forward to working together.

A fragment from The Pearl of the Mediterranean, 2026
(8’58”).

A video work revisiting the 1913 promotional film of the same name to examine the Mediterranean as a militarized frontier, where the seamless circulation of global capital contrasts with the violent control of human migration. By reversing the visual language of tourism and the Romantic tradition, the work reveals the port infrastructures, surveillance mechanisms and border regimes that continue to shape the sea as a space of institutional power.
