Yes, I know this is yet another Total Solar Eclipse shot and I am sure you are sick of seeing these by now, but hear me out.

Not only was I gifted with witnessing yet another Eclipse, I also happened to be fortunate enough to co-lead a workshop in Spain with several other experts as part of the @capturetheatlas Eclipse Summit.

Myself and co-experts @amazingskyguy @mikeshawphotography @sarahmaths.astro and @miguel_claro were blessed with an amazing group of participants and while I was nervous about teaching initially, I quickly realized how great it felt to educate others on a topic I love. Also huge shoutout to @trishgilroy for helping me out with way too much camera gear.

This image is the Baily’s Beads sequence from both C2 and C3. The warm glow is thanks to this eclipse being extremely low on the horizon. by @danieljstein

Have you entered this year’s @NikonPhotoContest? Tap the link in our bio to submit your work by 2/13 for the chance to win a Z 9 and other great prizes. We’ve got the details behind @danieljstein's prize-winning shot, “By The Bells.” Dan says that it’s one of his favorite images of all time. Here's the story: "A record snowpack year allowed for snow to linger around long enough where the summer alignment of the Milky Way atop the snow-capped peaks was able to be captured. I used my star tracker to capture the stars and turned the tracker off to shoot the foreground images in the exact same camera position otherwise both the reflection in the lake below as well as the foreground would have become blurry from the tracker. But I still wanted to get a nice clean and sharp foreground, so in order to reduce the noise due to everything being so dark, I shot a bunch of images all back to back and stacked them. I love this image, but I never thought it could win any awards, and a Nikon award for that matter. I honestly thought the email was fake when I received word that I had won. I won a Z 5 full frame mirrorless camera which I use for b-roll/reels."

3 Months! Yeah. It has been 3 months since I have posted on here. I really just have not been feeling like working on anything photography related for a bit. Truth be told, there have been a lot of changes in my life over the past few weeks and even months that have kept me from working on photos for many reasons. But now, I am on the up and up and am ready to ramp up my photography game to the next level. I have lots of sweet stuff planned in the weeks and even days to come—including starting a TikTok to add a new dynamic to my work. For now, enjoy this Neowise pic I took back in the summer that I just recently finished processing. by @danieljstein

Orion rising over one of the most iconic locations in the Adirondacks.

I am very thankful to have been able to make this shot work. Fall happens very quickly in the Adirondacks and while I have seen this location many times, I have always wanted to capture something different over the lake in the foreground. by @danieljstein

I hit the Eclipse lottery this year. I was lucky enough to experience the Total Solar Eclipse in Spain followed by the near-total Lunar just 2 weeks later back in my home turf.

To commemorate both phenomena, I put together a composite of both Eclipses. I got some amazing conditions for the Solar and the image I chose here shows beautiful prominences. For the Lunar, this HDR image shows the Eclipse at near max and showcases both the blood moon and blue tinge from the illuminated side. All images were captured with the @Nikonusa Z8 and Z5II mirrorless cameras and NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S lens by @danieljstein

This type of shot is only possible during a Lunar Eclipse!

Shooting the Milky Way with the Moon is next to impossible as the Moonlight washes away all visible Milky Way detail. However, when the Moon becomes Eclipsed, the stars really start to shine.

Eclipses come in pairs, and after coming back from the Total Solar Eclipse in Spain a few weeks ago, I really did not think I would be fortunate enough to luck out with this Lunar. Considering crazy cloud forecasts and the fact that this was not even a 100% total, I did not think this shot was going to happen.

A small break in the clouds allowed me to shoot this Lunar Eclipse Milky Way pano, and the wind stayed just calm enough to capture the reflection as well. This image was captured during the time when the Moon was most eclipsed. by @danieljstein

I setup one of my rigs during the Total Solar Eclipse specifically to record video. I shot an 8k 60 fps video which not only allowed me to crop for extreme closeup detail, but I was able to record and watch the eclipse with my eyes knowing everything was being recorded to re-watch later. by @danieljstein

This has been my most ambitious project yet with the @NikonUSA #Z5II. Despite challenging hiking with heavy camera gear, chasing aurora, and shooting astrophotography from my canoe—these deep space objects take the cake. These images are a collection of several months worth of data while pushing the Z5II to its limits. I really wanted to see what this camera is capable of, and it was not easy to try and track down the right conditions to collect all of the targets on my list. Here is what I captured:

1. M16, Eagle Nebula: NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S
2. M45, Pleiades: NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S
3. NGC2244, Rosette Nebula, NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S
4. M31, the Andromeda Galaxy, NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S
5/6. NGC6960, the Veil Nebula, NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S
7. M42, the Orion Nebula, NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S
8. Rho Ophiuchi Cloud Complex, NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena
9. IC434, Hersehend & Flame Nebula, NIKKOR Z 400mm 4.5 S

It’s not easy to shoot astrophotography from remote locations, but the hard work pays off. For the Total Lunar Eclipse on March 3, I hiked up a mountain with 75 lbs of gear—including the @NikonUSA #Z5II and the beastly NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S.

I also carried the NIKKOR Z 24mm f/1.8 S, NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S, NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S, and NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena alongside 3 tripods and accessories. This video is a quick snapshot of what goes on behind the scenes. #nikoncreator #ad by @danieljstein

Total Lunar Eclipse over the Great Range in the ADK. This almost didn’t happen. My friends and I originally had plans to go out west and find a composition to shoot this eclipse as it would have been higher in the sky.

However due to some unforeseen circumstances, we had to cancel our trip last minute. Given this will be the last lunar eclipse until 2028, I really still wanted to shoot it.

Good thing my ADK playground seems to always have my back. As luck would have it, the weather worked out for a last minute push up a mountain with my ridiculously heavy camera loadout. What’s more, capturing a lunar eclipse during twilight like this really is something else.
