Unfortunately, Danielle and Jacinta have been made aware of a phishing-email scam that has used @danielle.binks’ name to pose as a literary agent, enquiring about the status of a manuscript, and possibility of representation.

Please know this scam is not in any way connected to Danielle, or our agency. It is sadly part of ongoing and AI-generated phishing/fake emails that everyone in publishing has been subjected to lately, and at an increasingly infuriating volume and scary sophistication.

Danielle has even written about this explosion of fakery on her personal Substack 👉 https://open.substack.com/pub/daniellebinks

Danielle and Jacinta both have JdM server-emails; and while Danielle does have a personal email account, she rarely uses it for agenting work (when she does; she has a unique and specific enough signature with personal details included, to know it’s her.)

Danielle and Jacinta were open for submissions in April of this year, but only seeking to represent Australian/Aotearoa-New Zealand creators – many of whom we’ve been in ongoing email correspondence with. We would not email an emerging writer out of the blue, and we are currently only interested in representing creatives who have Australian and Aotearoa/New Zealand citizenship. For further legitimacy; if discussions about potentially signing a client to our agency progress, we’re also likely to ask for a phone or video-conferencing call.

Also please know that no accredited literary agent would demand a reading or editorial fee from prospective clients. If you are ever in doubt about the questionable behaviour of a self-proclaimed “literary agent,” please refer to the Australian Literary Agents’ Association and their Code of Practice 👉 https://www.austlitagentsassoc.com/code-of-practice

This is deeply frustrating and unfair, but we are aware that many Australian literary agents and publishers have been used in similar and ongoing scams. Please be vigilant; do not send money – and only progress with sharing your manuscript once you’ve done thorough checks into the legitimacy of queries and agents/publishers, especially if they’re emailed you out of the blue. by @danielle.binks

Day three of Travel on Purpose was the busiest one yet!

We visited five temples in Angkor Archeological Park, had a delicious lunch at our hotel, then made our way to HHA. Our travellers learnt all about the important work of our local program partner and the impact they are having in the community. Then, HHA’s co-founder, Salin, took us on a tour of the local pagoda. We finished the day with dinner at Footprint Cafes!

You believe hard work creates opportunity:
Theavy believes it too, she works hard to give her children more choices in life.

But right now, when harvests are small and costs keep rising, hard work alone isn’t enough to put nutritious food on the table and send the children to school.

You can help make hard work count. Your gift gives Theavy access to updated farming techniques, organic fertiliser and an experienced Cambodian farmer, working as a mentor.

Theavy can grow more, earn more and build a secure future for her family.

You aren’t giving Theavy a handout. You’re giving her the opportunity for a better future.

Support Theavy to thrive by making a donation to our end of year campaign:

Day two of our Travel on Purpose tour, and what a busy one it was!

We were guided by Pisey through Wat Damnak and Wat Preah Prom Roth temples, tried local snacks at old market, shopped up a storm, ate lunch at New Leaf Eatery and visited Artisans Angkor.

We also learnt about the history of the Khmer Rouge genocide and paid our respects at Wat Thmey.

Travel on Purpose: Day One

Today was the first day of our Travel on Purpose tour!

We picked Mel, Celeste, Bree and @humanandhope ambassador @dbinks up at the airport, then took the scenic route to lunch on the lake. Travellers met HHA’s co-founder, Santepheap, who shared his inspiring personal story.

After a short rest at the hotel, we headed out for a sunset picnic with homemade Khmer food, where travellers met HHA’s honorary board member, Sreylin.

It’s an early night in anticipation of a walking tour tomorrow!

Throwback to Canberra Writers Festival! ✨️📚🏛

I got to catch up with two of my beloved writing tutors from RMIT, which was such a special experience. It's so amazing watching the people who taught me how to be a writer be celebrated for THEIR books!

Do check out How to Love the World (Literary Fiction) by @ilkatampke and Shakespeare in the Orchard (Middle Grade) by @danielle.binks

I’m so in love with this new middle grade novel from @uwapublishing - not least because it was a Spiers Prize winner when I was one of the judges! ☺️

🐎 BLURB; 🦓

Orphaned, angry, and refusing to go to school, 12-year-old Roo wishes on a shooting star for a horse. The next day she wakes to find not only a horse but also a zebra outside her bedroom window! Her nan says she can keep the horse as long as she returns to school. When her horse gives birth to a zorse, Roo finds herself at the centre of world attention and with more chaos than she could have imagined.

Warm, funny and full of heart, #AGirlABoyAHorseAndAZorse is an unforgettable story about friendship, courage, anxiety, and finding where you truly belong, from #SpiersPrize winner, #RebeccaGreen.

🦓 💚 🐎

And I did have the honour of providing an endorsement quote for this remarkable book, which is: “A heartfelt and healing children’s book about embracing difference, resilience, and kindness. Necessary in every classroom, library and family bookshelf!”

It’s out on November 1 - pre-order it now, and HUGE congratulations to @rebecca_green_author and UWAP!

Hey! Let’s mandate teacher-librarians and see investment in school libraries, so that every child has access to their life-changing benefits!

I just emailed my local representatives and Minister for Education Jason Clare MP - have you?

Here’s a little run-down of what’s been happening, and for more check out 📕 https://daniellebinks.substack.com/p/mandate-teacher-librarians 📕

Welp. As Jennifer Lopez once sang; “LET’S GET LOUD!”

@alia_schools, @studentsneedschoollibraries and @katejoltemple have been banging this drum but now they need us to all tap into our communities and keep the choir singing out to those in power 👉

From the #AustralianSchoolLibraryAssociation —

Grassroots advocacy is a powerful force for change, and every voice matters.

Every voice adds pressure and advocacy is most powerful when we sing as a choir.

Every kid in Australia deserves a school library and a teacher-librarian.

It’s time for our governments to mandate libraries and teacher-librarians. In fact, It’s well overdue.

Fifty-eight teacher-librarians have just lost their jobs (or been redeployed to classroom positions) in the Maitland-Newcastle Catholic diocese schools in NSW.

These losses are just the latest in what has been a steady and devastating cutting of teacher-librarian positions all around the country. Many schools do not have a teacher-librarian and some do not even have a library.

Many people and organisations are campaigning for teacher-librarians and school libraries to be mandated. For instance, the recent petition started by author Kate Temple, and the work being done by this organisation ASLA (Australian School Libraries Association), SNSL (Students Need School Libraries) and ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association) and Australia Reads, among others.

Please join us and ask your state and federal MPs to support the mandating of teacher-librarians and a library in every Australian school

📚 📕 Jacinta & Danielle are proud to add our names to this call-out, and we encourage all of our followers to join the choir and write to their local MPs, discuss this issue with their school communities, family and friendship groups … let’s get LOUD!

Hi. 👋

I’m a millennial and no, I’m not okay.

I haven’t been okay since Julia Stiles joined Dancing with the Stars and started mining her *stunning* back catalogue of films for feels … but then this week she did a tribute to the late, great Heath Ledger and a ‘10 Things I Hate About You’ reunion.

🥲 I have never felt so attacked, nor so seen - simultaneously.

The recreating of the movie poster. The many, MANY fan-vids that I thank my algorithm for 🙏 but also beg - my heart can’t take anymore 🥹

This is my favourite movie. Of all time. I love it so much, I included a whole chapter in my debut novel ‘The Year the Maps Changed’ about my character getting her period for the first time, and her soon-to-be stepmother encouraging her to not let it stop her doing what she loves - like going to the movies and seeing Heath Ledger’s grin on the big screen.

A scene I literally plucked from my own childhood because I *viscerally* remember seeing this movie in 1999, and becoming so obsessed; I have pages and pages in my old diary with ripped-out Dolly, Girlfriend and TV Hits magazine pics and pages.

No, I am not okay … I’m *ecstatic*! ❤️❤️❤️

So @lifebloodau put the call-out; “Blood supplies plunge 60% to their lowest level in a decade as Lifeblood issues critical call for 16,000 donors”

According to their press release: ‘A prolonged and record cold and flu season has left more than 1,200 donor chairs empty nationwide each day, contributing to a 60 per cent fall in Lifeblood’s blood supplies since June.

Even minor cold and flu symptoms prevent people from donating, resulting in low bookings, more cancellations and missed appointments.

Despite tens of thousands of people donating in response to Lifeblood’s recent winter appeals, supplies of the most common blood types are critically low.

Lifeblood Chief Customer Officer Cath Stone said blood donations simply are not keeping pace with hospital demand, and Lifeblood’s inventories - especially type O blood - remain under significant strain.’

I’m a regular donor and O+ so of course I got my skates on and donated blood today 👍🩸 if you’ve ever thought of being a life-saving, #Lifeblood donor, now is the time to make enquiries and sign up to donate! It’s a way to help so many people, and it’s so easy to do:

The press release went on: ‘Despite fewer donors this spring, demand for blood remains high.

“An ageing population, increased cancer prevalence, and longer life expectancies are just a few of the reasons we’re seeing demand continuing to grow for both blood and plasma treatments,” Cath said.

“Yet the number of people donating remains low at just three per cent of the population, and we need that to change.”

“Donating blood is an easy way to find out your blood type, and all types are needed by patients right now.”’

🩸 To book an appointment call 13 14 95, visit lifeblood.com.au or download the Lifeblood app. 🩸
