Part two of Behind the Scenes of The Forbidden Aunt… we took things not as seriously as you’d expect for such a serious film. Humor is medicine for my family and our generational traumas. The documentary is filled with it. You will laugh as much as you will cry. That is a promise. Australian premiere this Sunday 18 Oct 4:45pm @palacenova EASTEND by @daniellejoy

🇷🇸 Dokumentarac Zabranjena Tetka je osvojio nagradu za Najbolji dokumentarni flim na ovogodišnjim Digital Media Awards. Hvala žiriju i organizaciji na ovom priznanju. Glasajte 25.10.

🇬🇧 Translation. Thank you to Color Press Group and Diplomacy and Commerce magazine for this acknowledgement. This film is about how sexual violence and generational trauma have shaped the lives of 4 generations of women in my family. It is a deeply personal story, but with universal implications. Unfortunately, in Serbia, one women dies every two weeks at the hands of her partner. I would rather have never had to make this film. And while I want to accept this award and am grateful, it would be disingenuous not to comment on the political implications of the issue of violence against women. This issue is not a problem of short skirts, or crazy women, it is a problem of political will. So I ask you think deeply about your mothers, aunts, grandmothers, daughters and granddaughters when you vote on October 25th. We need a change and that change needs to be systemic. Thank you. by @daniellejoy

Your job:

1. Pick whether you have 15 minutes, 60 minutes, or 8 weeks to finally tackle the creative project you’ve left on the back-burner for too long
2. Find the tool we’ve built just for you to take you from ‘nuh uh’ to ‘whoa what do you know’

Things we’ve been building that we kind of but not fully told you about:

1. For when you’ve got 15 minutes - the Enough Talk Action Portal for Creatives - link in bio, ramble about what it is in video
2. For when you’ve got an hour - he How To Finish What You Start free training - find this epic training in our podcast feed (link also in bio one click wonders)
3. For when you’ve got 8 weeks (which, let’s be real, are about to pass anyway, so check how your last 8 weeks of progress went and decide accordingly) - FRUITION - big beautiful bountiful link also in bio!! by @daniellejoy

In a world overflowing with soap operas, one Serbian family proves reality can be wilder, darker, and far more gripping than fiction.

It’s been a decade of blood, sweat, and tears. The Forbidden Aunt is a project of love, made by everyone who has poured their heart into it. It’s the story of the women in my family, but it’s also a story about mothers, daughters, and grandmothers everywhere. Because I think we all have a “forbidden” someone, a woman in our family whose story we don’t quite know, or don’t quite know how to talk about.

Family secrets, addiction, and generational trauma, not packaged in a Hollywood way, but as a full-blown Turkish soap opera, forced me to look not only at my aunt, but at myself as well. 🫂

I can’t wait to finally share it with all of you.❤️

It’s my hero’s birthday today. This woman is wildly talented, articulate, wise, generous, strong, loyal, hilarious, compassionate, creative beyond imagination, powerful and a true friend. She also creates ridiculously cool art and witnessing her shine through each of her projects has been a true gift.

@daniellejoy thank you for the past 20 years of being my person, my family, my life coach, my resume writer, for knowing me better than I know myself, for making me laugh in the perfect timing through every bit of shit that life throws at us. by @daniellejoy

Had a fantastic chat with producer Danielle Redford on the latest episode of Breaking Screen about the benefits and takeaways of releasing @ina.series on YouTube, learnings from years working in distribution, and her experience producing an online series at the same time as feature film @zombuchamovie

Link in bio or listen to the episode on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube and more.

Watch all eps of Ina, written and directed by Rachel Maxine Anderson, on YouTube now. And keep an eye out for Zombucha! in cinemas soon if you missed the premiere at MIFF last year! by @daniellejoy
