Dani VR is a multidisciplinary weapon who knows how to find those performance gems that really leave you with the stand out memories.

A performing arts enthusiast since she was a kid, she asks you think outside the love story for Shipwrecked's Share The Love in 2027. Bring her your hidden talent and ideas we haven't seen before. Think wonderful, bizarre, playful, mesmerizing, beautiful, funny, queer, and out the gate!

Little do we talk about the hidden labour behind making a live experience EPIC.

The planning. The concepts. The negotiations. The contracts. The logistics. The setup. The problem-solving. And all the s*t that inevitably hits the fan on the night! which you’ll probably never see because a crew is quietly working and making sure YOU have the best time.

This is to them (to us) who don’t get the spotlight but are absolutely essential to making it happen 🖤 helpers, duty managers, bar staff, cleaners, security, production crew, operations managers, book keepers, promoters!

Also, for those following the drama: **I’m still very much part of The Button Factory’s production team.** Apologies for the plot development.

For SUBMOTION VOL.01 happening this Saturday 26 Sept, we’re nearly SOLD OUT and working our asses off to make it one to remember.

Because this is our call: to facilitate real-time, off-your-phone, real-human interaction / while also creating jobs, side gigs and opportunities for our Tamaki creative community.

After making a lot of different things, I’m genuinely curious about what makes something actually land.

Across design, production and performance, I’m often thinking: how do we make something that people connect with, rather than simply consume and move on from?

Can I create a formula that facilitates high impact work? good choices, striking details and better decisions that can turn something good into something great?

These are some of the questions I find myself coming back to in my own work.

Still trying to ask better questions and delivering better work. Figuring out when to take more or less risks… by @danivr_creative

I’ve been very quiet lately. Not because I stopped creating, but because quite a lot has been changing behind the scenes.

Some projects reached maturity, some no longer resonated with me, and I’ve been taking a little time to reassess where I want to put my energy, creativity and resources.

I realised I also needed to rethink how I present myself publicly. For a long time, the performer has been the most visible part of my work. But there is a much bigger picture.

So, this is a little reintroduction.

A new chapter, a new digital home, and hopefully a more honest reflection of the person and creative practitioner behind the performance.

I’m not leaving the stage. I’m becoming more intentional about which stages I step onto and what I build when I’m not on one.

There’s a new chapter taking shape.

The most effective systems don’t demand submission. they make resistance feel … unnecessary…

This character lives in that tension; between comfort and autonomy, conformity and rebellion, compliance and wildness. Sounds familiar?

I haven’t always used my stage voice to initiate difficult conversations. Fear of judgment and misunderstanding keep me quiet. Yes, this definitely sounds familiar

But you get to a certain age where you give less 🦆

I’d rather make art that unsettles than art that sedates.

I’ll never stop celebrating this life. It’s too short not to experience it fully—to try everything at least once, take bold risks, fail, reset, and begin again.

Little Dani would be so proud of the woman I’ve become. And I’m endlessly grateful for the people who have loved me exactly as I am, with all my flags flying.

Currently enjoying being the person behind the moving pieces rather than in the spotlight. Maybe it’s maturity, or perhaps my era of seeking external validation has passed. Either way, I’m finding a lot of fulfillment in working on larger-scale projects where the focus isn’t on recognition, but on creating something with a clear vision, strong direction, and a thoughtful outcome.

Im better at creating magical things than I am at promoting them… but that’s a wrap on Shipwrecked 2026 💥

Curating the performance lineup and Saturday night cabaret for Shipwrecked Festival was something really special. Huge thanks to the crew for their support, and to the organiser for trusting me with my creative vision.

Endless gratitude to the performers who showed up with flexibility, skill and high vibes, and to the helpers, builders, stage kittens and friends who kept things moving when burnout was very real. You know who you are 🖤

Producing shows in Aotearoa right now isn’t easy — funding is tighter, costs are rising, and there’s a lot of invisible labour behind the scenes. But weekends like this remind me why we do it: the artists, the community, and the weird and wonderful creativity that refuses to disappear.

This reel captures moments from the cabaret… but it doesn’t even scratch the surface of all the incredible talent across the site. Feeling very lucky to do this with such a wild, talented community ✨ by @danivr_creative
