🎭 “Bonnie & Clyde” an original song by Dan Marks featuring Iao Hotz on slide guitar and banjo 🎶
This song is from the heart.
It’s raw and unrehearsed.
We recorded it in the back of a bus on a couch in one take.
Most of it was even improvised on the fly…😅
✨How good!
The lyrics are about an old toxic relationship of mine where I was struggling with self worth issues and depression ❤️‍🩹 I’m over that particular hurdle but the lessons are important to reflect upon 🙏
📝 I hadn’t decided on a song on the day of recording. Cadby works fast and I was under pressure to perform something worth everyone’s time 😳
This old tune came back to me an hour before shooting and I decided to go with it.
⚔️We picked our preferred tools from the seemingly endless quiver of instruments the bus housed and sat ourselves in a comfy spot on the couch and got into it…
🪕Iao’s resonator guitar and the banjo flowed effortlessly with my acoustic rhythms.
The harmonica never was a part of my repertoire back when this song was conceived and the tone suits the new arrangement perfectly 🤌
I left out the original bridge which might make a comeback in the studio recording of this track but for now, a folky, ska, 4-chord banger acoustic remix will be its debut 🎉
🙌This has been a labour of love for all to enjoy, it was a pleasure to work with all of you to bring my Waiata to life 💚
Thank you for reading so far and watching our video! Your support is really appreciated and I hope this finds you at a time when it is needed 🫶
Thank you again,
Ngaa Mihi Nui

Embark on a soulful journey through our acoustic jam! 🎸🎵 Honored to share the stage with my brother, @davemarksmusic, weaving heartfelt melodies that echo a dark past. 🖤 This original song speaks from the heart, channeling emotions to pave the path forward. ⚡️🎶 Thank you for tuning in! Usually, social media doesn’t like long-form content like full versions of songs… 😅 so help me change the game! See another side to the music; the passion, raw energy of the moment and emotions that surface in these fleeting frequencies…
Your thoughts and feelings mean the world to us. Write them down below, and let the music ignite your emotions! 😊

This has to be my favourite memory of the year so far! Incredible production from my brother @cadbykong on this acoustic cover @dubprincessmusic and @isaacchambersmusic hit song; “Move On”.
Filmed on a whim in Meadowbank Laundromat, this amazing capture epitomises the essence of live recordings. No over dubbing, no effects, just raw expression of emotion and viiiiibes 🥰🎶
Meg’s voice is incredible and now here’s a lyric video so you can sing along with those beautiful melodies and juicy lyrics 👌
I first discovered Dub Princess and Isaac Chambers in 2018 and have made their tunes a daily driver in my playlists. Such a combination of musical genius and I’m here for it 🙌 you guys will always be my idols, no matter what happens in this world. Your music has saved me multiple times 💚🖤
👇Let me know in the comments where you first heard “Move On” ✨music connects the best memories 🫶

A cover of one of my favourite NZ musos, @joecolemusic for my tribute to @nzmusicmonth in May ☀️🍃 this song is called “Waving in the Open” but he’s just released a song with @nick.herbison called “Tides” and I think the bro @thomas_oliver_music produced and mastered it. It’s luuuuush 🤌 anyways, it’s been a hot minute since I posted anything and the algorithm has once again changed. I got a message saying long reels won’t be shown to anyone outside my following and I average around 5-10% engagement from my following so every little bit of word of mouth and sharing this around helps 💚 I’m not into chasing fads and trends anymore, I want to be authentically myself. So here is a bedroom recording from a couple weeks ago. Enjoy! X

Being a musician is MORE than just a passion. It’s my heartbeat. It fuels me, keeps me going, even when doubt creeps in and the obstacles feel endless. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and compare yourself to others, but I’ve learned that the real win isn’t in the numbers. It’s in the moments when my music connects with someone. That’s what matters. If just one person feels it in their soul, then everything is worth it ✨

I had a perfect reminder of that recently at my first gig on tour at Neck of the Woods. The crowd was small, but the energy was real. There’s that part of you, though, as a musician, when you look out and see a crowd of maybe 10-15 people and you have this sudden urge to run away like a little baby or hide behind the amp 😂 But then, you remember.. ahhh, this is what it’s all about. It doesn’t matter if there are 200 or 2000 people, it’s the connection that matters. And trust me, even if it’s just a handful of people, if they’re vibing with your music, that’s gold.

Big shoutout to @danmarksmusic who supported me that night. Fucking raw, real, and 110% present. He gave it everything, even with a small crowd. I mean, the man was rocking out like he was headlining Coachella. That’s the spirit of a true artist. Absolutely giving your all, no matter how many are watching. It’s not about the size of the crowd, it’s about how your music moves people 💙

And here’s a reminder for anyone out there chasing their passion. Keep doing what you love, no matter the odds. Keep pushing forward, even when it feels tough. Because, honestly, what do you have to lose? Worst case, you perform in front of 10 people and feel like a mini celebrity (because, hey, that’s still a crowd). The only thing you can lose is the chance to keep growing, keep creating, and keep doing what sets your soul on fire. Every setback is just a step forward in the bigger picture. So, stay in the game, trust the process, and remember why you started in the first place. KEEP GOING 👌🏻

“Maybe so but you see?
It’s continuously
In a flow
From the Sea
Of all the Knowledge
That can be.
We can grow
From the Seed
Of individuality,
Common goals,
Prosperity,
Living as One
In Harmony”

Hi! 👋 Its been a while since I’ve posted, the world I’m in has required me to focus efforts elsewhere 💚
So, im taking accountability for the lack of content and committing to posting more.
I’m really interested in hearing from you as to what you would like to see more of from my page? 🗣️
Trends are constantly changing, as is the music, however, this space is about my community.
Thats you guys 🤝
Thanks for reading so far! I’ll tell you a little about this song now 😆
🎶 “Big Eyes” - It’s one of my favourite songs from @mattcorby , an absolute phenomenal Aussie muso. He’s a softie of a Scorpio too 😂
🎥 @cadbykong captured this duet with my bro, @matchu_kees, perfectly. His bike shop is the coolest place to chill.
If you watch to the end, Matt’s partner-in-crime Pomeranian, Elroy, interrupts the recording in the cutest of ways… how can you be angry at the little fella! 🐕 #mattcorbycover #acousticcover #bikeshop #themarksbrothers #danmarksmusic #guitarsaxduo #billybonesclub #staybad taken in Kingsland, Auckland by @danmarksmusic
