Work for Philippine Cocktail Week 2026 🍸

Probably one of the craziest shoots I’ve done so far. Sometimes I look back and think about how insane it was that we managed to hop from bar to bar with only a short amount of time to shoot.

Very grateful to Studio Kamusta @studio_kamusta and most especially Inah, for giving me all the support I needed to push through with this!

BTS from our August-October 2026 cover shoot for Philippine Airlines’ Mabuhay Magazine!

I still remember when Bill @billybarrr reached out to me about the project. I was completely overwhelmed and surprised, especially after learning about the concept and setup for the cover.

We had to reschedule the shoot a few times to make sure Centro de Turismo would allow us to rig both Kat, the model, and me to the building’s two towers. The weather also made things challenging, which is why the skies in the photos ended up looking a bit gloomy. Kuya Deng and his team were constantly monitoring the weather, waiting for even the smallest window of brighter skies. In the end, we were given just two hours to capture the shot we needed.

By then, I had already accepted that the skies probably wouldn’t get any brighter. From the tower, I found myself looking at the Manila Cathedral beside us and the modern buildings stretching into the distance—two completely different histories and timelines existing side by side. Somehow, that view felt like it was enough.

I want to thank the entire team, especially Bill, Kabayo Media, and Kuya Deng and his crew, for making this happen. No words can fully express how grateful I am for the opportunity to be part of this project.

The magazine is now being distributed on Philippine Airlines flights and will be available until October. taken in Intramuros, Manila by @danny.cstllo

Notes by Danielle Castillo:

I grew up seeing basketball as aggressive. There was always pain involved. You had to suck it up. Pick yourself up when you fall. Get back on your feet. Shout when you need to. The court was often used by men to get forceful—to be assertive, unyielding.

But Baller Room was different. I found myself watching their gestures, witnessing how a sport I had always known to be relentless could suddenly feel nurturing, even graceful. I saw it in their hands—in the way they held each other. Someone picks you up. Someone unknowingly guards your back before you hit something. Someone banters mid-game, then offers a respectful handshake. Someone calls a foul and checks in before the play resumes.

In the hidden court at Cubao, a group of men plays basketball for hours. Music blasts in the background, and every now and then you see them dance around. The space becomes a dancefloor, and I watch in awe as they allow themselves to be—to move, to exhale.
I wonder if they see the difference it makes—how it brings them together, not out of self-importance, but out of quiet care for each other.

tinuruan ako ni danny recently mamicture (at magmahal, hehe baliw). Pwera biro, ang saya simulan nung non-fiction. Hindi din talaga siya project kasi ang implication nito ay may goals, eh wala ngani. Narealize ko lately na hindi ako sentimental na tao, at nahihirapan din with object impermanence. Kaya mahalaga to sakin. Naiinggit na din ako kasi andaming kuwento ni danny sa mga litratong kinuha niya.

Kaya din gusto kong sulatan, na kadalasan walang edits. Okay din yung grammar mistakes. bukod sa hindi naman talaga Ingles ang first language namin, fleeting thoughts or observations lang din talaga. Hindi para sainyo ang mga nasusulat namin. gusto ko lang may balikan para masabing nagawa ko na nga pala ang mga ito at nagbabaka sakaling next time, ako naman ang magkukuwento habang pinapakita ni danny ang litrato sa iba.

Siguro gusto ko lang din tapatan yung ligaya ni danny pag nagkukuwento sa mga bagay-bagay. Madaming dahilan, kung tutuusin, Pero sa totoo, excuse lang mga yan para madala niya ako sa mga gala (syempre passenger princess ako). Mahusay si danny, may bitaw.
