Do you remember…? 🪩

What better night than the 21st night of September to finally share some memories from supporting the legendary Al McKay’s Earth, Wind & Fire Experience on their 2026 UK tour?

It was a great professional and personal honour to be invited to be part of it.

For the preceding nine months, I’d been trying to recover from a near-fatal illness that had left me unable to sing. I was forced to consider walking away from the career I’d spent my life building.

This was an opportunity I could never pass up. To suddenly find myself singing in front of thousands of people each night, in some of the UK’s most prestigious concert halls, after so much pain and uncertainty, meant everything to me. I’m so proud of myself for facing the challenge of returning to the stage, and even more so for making it through the whole tour without a single note (or thread) out of place.

The band were both brilliant and welcoming. Their compliments about my sets and their shout-out during the finale made me certain I belonged there. Getting to stand in the wings every night and hear them play so many of my favourite songs with absolute authority was like my own private masterclass in funky showmanship.

I got to grace the stage of the Royal Festival Hall, where in my youth I’d seen so many of my musical heroes (including Little Richard, The Blues Brothers Band and Brian Wilson). I played cities I’d never played before, caught up with old friends and came home with new ones. Every audience was so warm, and the messages I received afterwards made the whole experience that much sweeter.

Thank you to @ewf.experience, @senblaconcerts, the crew, everyone who made it happen, and everyone who gave this soul man such a wonderful welcome back to live performance.

💿RECORD STORE DAY 2026💿

Our favourite day of the year is back this Saturday!!!

We have a full day of live music, and poetry, records spinning, merch stand and so much more!

Midday till Midnight!

We are also buzzing to announce @whiteydrums will be here to sign copies of his new record ‘Soul Drums’ with The Steve White Trio! He will be here from 2pm till 3pm.

The fantastic @adam.ficek (@babyshamblesuk / @roseskingscastles ) will be on the decks along with some other guests!

The wonderful folk at @tonicmusicmh will have a merch stand next to our pop-up record shop! Where you can buy records and other great bits from artists playing the day and more!

Our New Street Soul Club line-up is now complete!

We are thrilled to announce @dannytoeman and @niawynmusic are joining our revue show at @100clublondon on 21st March!

@iamcarmylove will also be performing her forthcoming releases with @pmwarson on @acidjazzrecords

Badeya! I’m beyond thrilled to be joining The Earth, Wind & Fire Experience by Al McKay on their upcoming UK tour.
It’s an honour to share the stage with the band created by Grammy Award–winning legend Al McKay, whose guitar and songwriting helped shape classics like September and Sing a Song, and who also co-produced some of my all-time favourite records by The Temptations and The Emotions.
We kick off tomorrow in London at the Royal Festival Hall, followed by Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow. Let’s Groove, and turn the UK into a Boogie Wonderland!

September 7th 2019; performing for thousands at the o2 Arena, opening for recent Hall of Fame inductees and funk legends @koolandthegang. Since then I’ve performed with many other Soul and Funk legends, and achieved so many unthinkable goals, but this always serves as a great reminder in darker times of why I do what I do, and where my singing and music can and has taken me. Big love to @aeg_presents and @senblaconcerts for having me, and @david_albury for being there to document this. I know many of you reading this were first exposed to me that night, leave a comment if you were there!

Yeah!!! Can you see yourself in the audience?! What an incredible show this weekend @hanwell_hootie, the kind that makes me remember why I continue to live this life. From the moment we started playing until after the second encore, the energy was unlike anything I’ve experienced in a very long time; everyone singing along to every song, cheering every dance move. I was walking on air throughout. Couldn’t have done it without the band, @rickykinradebass @mikeredfernguitarist @michaelhussaindrums Sam on keys, a big thank you to the organisers, volunteers, and sponsors @marshall for making this happen, and all the love to the hundreds of you who came to see us, “you give me everything, I’d ever need”.

By coincidence, I realised it’s seven years to the day that I visited Prague for the very first time, performing at Sofar Prague. It was a very special trip, and that city has had a place in my heart ever since. I loved it so much I ended up going back a few months later to play more gigs. I can’t believe so much time has passed, and I would love to go back and play, not just in Prague but all over Europe. If you feel like I have neglected your city and would love to see me perform, get in touch and let me know your favourite local venues.

My Low-Key 2024 Highlight
It seems like most musicians I know are sharing their obligatory Instagram posts celebrating career highlights of 2024. While I could have done the same—reflecting on events like opening for Hall of Famer @chakakhan, touring the UK and duetting with @elipaperboyreed, having my latest single “Thursday’s Child” played on @bbc6music by @craigcharlesfunkandsoul, or just playing more gigs in a year than ever before, including in cities I’d never performed in (and probably forgetting other great moments already)—I wanted to focus on a smaller, personal moment that meant a lot to me.

On August 22nd, I took the subway up to 125th Street in Harlem to visit a truly special place: the legendary @apollotheater.

James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Jackie Wilson, Cab Calloway, Sam Cooke, Little Richard, The Temptations, Ella Fitzgerald, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Billie Holiday, Wilson Pickett, Gladys Knight, Count Basie, Otis Redding, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Sam & Dave, The Drifters, Chaka Khan, Nat King Cole—the list of iconic entertainers who’ve graced that stage is endless.

When I finally stood outside the Apollo, it felt like sacred ground. Time seemed to stand still, and I was reeling in the spirit of the singers, musicians, and performers who left their indelible mark on this temple of Soul Music and influenced my life in countless ways.

Also, right next door was a store selling the funkiest suits I’ve ever seen—at discount prices. I bought three!
