New C-Extension is done! I’m extremely happy with how it came out! It’s much better than my old first attempt that I made several years ago. The E string is now correctly aligned and all the gates close without having to hold the string down. #doublebass #cextension taken in Brooklyn, New York by @danparrabass

So much fun getting to play again with my @lapachamambonyc family! And I finally had a reason to break out my Ampeg Baby bass! Big thanks to @bassistamandaruzza for hooking that up! It sounded great! taken in Soho House New York by @danparrabass

After experimenting with a Gut/Velvet Garbo combo all summer, I’m back to Spirocores for the time being. There’s a a lot of things I like about gut (easier on the hands, warm fat low mids) I miss being able to bow and they’re so dark it makes playing in tune a lot harder. It did teach me a lot about what I do and don’t like about steel strings. Some steel strings have too much tension and choke up my bass, and all steel G strings are too thin and rough on the fingers. Also Spirocore G can be too twangy and nasal. When I get the bread together I want to try some Pirastro Olivs and see if the thicker g and d strings are closer to what I’m looking for. #spirocore #gutstrings #pirastro #jazzbass #doublebass #thomastikinfeld #velvetgarbo taken in Brooklyn, New York by @danparrabass

I had to try learning this again because Greg Phillinganes’ playing on this is so beastly. Dialed in a nice ladder filter patch on the @sequential_llc Pro 3, just using the Ob-6 as a midi controller

Added some tracks to this dope song that @tehillahnottequila posted the other day. I’ve been taking advantage of all this time off to learn more about recording and hopefully making some music of my own. Swipe through for the original post
