Thank you to the whole team @penguinworkshop for believing in this book. Dang! I have emotions about it! 🎃🧙🏻‍♀️👻 by @danpoblox

My author copies of SHADOW PLAY finally arrived from @scholastic … In lieu of the traditional author unboxing video, I chose to *not do that*! Lol. Instead, a mini-tale… Years ago, my editor asked me for something that would read like my most popular novel, The Ghost of Graylock. In looking around my stomping grounds in NY’s Catskills region, I was inspired by the many abandoned resorts I’d seen in these mountains. Years ago, I came up here to visit a middle school friend who was spending a summer at an old resort that had been turned into a theater camp. When I inadvertently happened to drive by that same old summer theater camp one winter day a few years back, the story of SHADOW PLAY began to materialize. Two sisters visiting family during their winter break explore the camp’s empty theaters and discover mysteries about the locale’s history that freak them the heck out. Like in Ghost of Graylock, something follows them home, something with a message about danger they might have stumbled upon. The more they dig, the more the possibility of that danger grows. Until… well, very bad things happen, the exact things they were trying to avoid by looking into the mystery. I loved created this story about family and fear & struggles with anxiety and worry about the future. I threw my whole self into these character and relationships & it ended up becoming an unexpectedly personal story. SHADOW PLAY was pushed back 3 times (it was supposed to come out in summer 2025) because of life things beyond my and my editor’s control. I know it looks like a little paperback creepy genre novel for kids, & yeah sure, true, but to me, it’s so much more than ONLY that. It’s a love letter to my friends, to my father especially, to anyone struggling with health issues, mental & physical (as if there’s a difference), and to fans of chilly ghost stories set in the dead of winter. I hope you pick up a copy and read it. I hope you love it as much as I do. Even 20 years into a writing career, no author’s next novel is ever a guarantee, and for a while, I feared this one wouldn’t happen. BUT IT DID DANGIT, IT DID. And I’m so grateful I got the opportunity to finally share it with you. by @danpoblox

💨 STORY TIME! Take a peek inside MY BROTHER'S BUTT IS HAUNTED written by Dan Poblocki and illustrated by James Rey Sanchez.

Two siblings are going to sleep over at Gramma and Grampa’s creepy new house for the very first time. Their neighbors say there’s a ghost living there, but these kids definitely aren’t scared. That is…until the dead of night, when strange sounds and smells start coming from the older brother’s pants. There’s only one logical conclusion… His butt must be haunted!

Filled with gas, ghosts, and plenty of giggles, this book will inspire endless rereads as it turns farts into the butt of the joke. by @danpoblox

What a week! The adventure continued today with my first panel at my first New York Comic Con. With @onedarkally & @traceybaptistewrites & @tayparade talking with educators and librarians about “Safe Spaces in Scary Books.” So fun! Afterward, I wandered the floors, failed to get into a Marvel presentation, tried to find my publishers, and got totally overwhelmed, but now I feel better prepared for next time. Maybe. Haha! by @danpoblox

Especially my agent @hudson_valley_house who is calm, reassuring, and patient. And my mom of course. And step dad and the rest of my friends and fam. 💖🖤💖🖤 come visit! by @danpoblox
