50 years after first being introduced at @royalcopenhagen’s flagship store on Amagertorv 6, artist and goldsmith Arje @Griegst’s fabled Triton collection makes a comeback in the very same location for @3daysofdesign. The exhibition incites a museological exercise of optical illusions, where Royal Copenhagen presents the creative process behind Arje Griegst’s remarkable designs in three new colours – palest Sand beige, Ocean blue and light Celadon green. The enchanted Triton collection, which invokes natural archetypes in porcelain in a wavy, seashell fantasy, has been resurrected in close collaboration with the Griegst family, who have also co-curated the exhibition. The installation voyages through the project’s origins in the 1970s to today’s revival of its exquisite craftsmanship, culminating in a showcase of Triton’s three new colour glazes developed in partnership with the Griegst archives.Inviting guests inside Arje’s world, the first room reveals the inspirations and working tools of the Triton collection in a series of infinity-mirror vitrines. From his personal collection of seashells to the artist’s own Musselmalet teapot as well as original porcelain jewellery and moulds from the workshop, the artistic process is celebrated from start to finish. The exhibition culminates in a monumental island of finishedTriton porcelain displayed amongst unglazed bisque from the Royal Copenhagen porcelain factory, creating a 360° shifting cameo of sandy pastel shades, exploring the sensual discourse between raw material and the refined finished object.Awakening the senses, a bespoke soundscape complements the exhibition featuring archival recordings of Griegst’s voice interwoven with calm rhythmic ocean waves and minimal ambient piano sequences. A custom olfactory composition is diffused throughout the space, evoking shells washed up on the seashore through notes of mineral-rich air, salt mist, seaweed and weathered driftwood.Royal Copenhagen Creative Director: @jaspertoronnielsen Exhibition Design: @1kg_studio Curation: @noamgriegst & @danthawley Ph. @claustroelsgaard #royalcopenhagen #arjegriegst #griegst by @danthawley

“From afar her pieces might feel familiar; in a botanical sense, in the details of a petal, a bud, a pistil or an architectural one, as the pure lines of her designs allow each flower to interact with a rigorous geometry. But up close they are alchemical - swimming with patina and bubbling glazes, fissures and imperfections that speak of the invisible pacts between hand and eye, chemistry and gravity, temperature and time.”In “Memories of Flowers” Dan Thawley takes us into the world of @conievallese where flowers neither wilt, nor perish, and in her words “Softness becomes strength, and fragility transforms into permanence”. PT. 82 @_yorgos_lanthimos_ The darkly oneiric universe of the Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos is one charged with emotion, from languorous boredom to hysteria. This is conveyed not only by his actors (one could also call them subjects), but also by the strange environments he creates for them. With a genre-defying career in arthouse film that has evolved over more than two decades, Lanthimos has established himself as one of the most provocative auteurs of his generation. Less well known is his photography practice, which is currently the subject of his first-ever exhibition at @Onassis.Stegi in his native Greece.A few thoughts on the show for @ursulamagazine #yorgoslanthimos #ursulamagazine by @danthawley

Thank you @cc_tapis and @fornasetti for trusting me to curate the conceptual and narrative framework for (META)FISICA — a sensory exhibition of new rugs that explore the universal symbols of Piero Fornasetti’s oeuvre at a monumental scale. (META)FISICA is named after an extraordinary 32-panel #Fornasetti screen from 1958 (formerly owned by Sting!) that became a lynchpin for the exhibition’s maze-like format, but also our investigation of his work as a flat architectural gesture. Fornasetti represents a cornucopia of decorative ideas and notions for many around the world, which is why it was essential to take a radical approach to this exhibition: reawakening the natural and human characters Piero was drawing in the early 1950s as flat planes in conversation with his working tools such as zinc transfer plates and original transparent drawings. In dialogue with @pablomolezunstudio, we considered the concrete #cctapis space as a clinical gallery, where office blinds and yellow linoleum reactivate the natural light of the Piazza Santo Stefano creating a glowy cocoon where rugs are hung in floating layers and placed in conversation with each other through games of height, proportion and mirroring. In each room, archival designs float in mahogany frames by @bahrainidanish for @cassetta.dk, or polished steel cabinets by @nm3.xyz. Grounding the experience in an ethereal soundscape, the Catalan artist @carlosmcasas took the hisses of snakes and purrs of cats, whispers, weaving clatter and more from his archives and remixed them into a multichannel composition that guides the audience through each room, culminating in the 20-minute composition in the gallery’s basement, where a Pointillist Roman ruin is watched over by a coppery sun king. Finally, a selection of metaphysical texts dating back to the 8th century accompany the show in a printed guide, allowing visitors to contemplate Sylvia Plath or John Donne, D.H Lawrence and Italo Calvino as they visit the show - and hopefully long after. Thank you to the passionate and hard-working teams that made this surreal Salone dream a reality. @daniele__lora @happyfabrizio @michipelizzari @ps.creativeagency by @danthawley
