Today, the Bronx was on the record.
I testified before the NYC Council on the Sojourner Truth–Mapes Rezoning and made one thing clear:
You cannot ask for MORE while what you already have is still BROKEN.
Our communities are tired of promises without accountability.
I spoke directly to Phipps.
I spoke directly to City Council.
And I reminded everyone listening that the people who actually live in these neighborhoods deserve a real voice in what happens next.
Now the question is simple:
Will our elected officials stand with the constituents who elected them, or will they stand with developers?

30+ YEARS. At this point, everybody needs to hear us.

Belmont Playground has not had a major renovation since 1995 while other parks around our Belmont neighborhood have received upgrades and investment.

Our basketball court needs MAJOR work. We need better lighting. We’re dealing with unsafe stairs, flooding, and concerns about emergency access.

So why does Belmont playground keep getting overlooked?

I’m calling on our District 15 elected officials, the Mayor, the Governor, NYC Parks, and anyone with the power to help bring resources to this community: COME TO BELMONT. See the park. Talk to our families. See what our kids have been expected to make work for decades.

And yes, a press conference may have to happened

If you grew up here, played ball here, bring your children here, or simply believe Bronx kids deserve better, SHARE THIS and TAG SOMEBODY WHO NEEDS TO SEE IT.

Love Day is officially over, but I’m still sitting with everything that happened.

389 book bags. 400+ pantry items. Fresh produce, prepared meals, school supplies, game consoles, basketball and so much more.

And this isn’t our first time doing this. From Love Day to BronxGiving, this work has always been about showing up for our community and making sure our families know they are seen.

None of this happens without mutual aid, volunteers, donors, community partners and people who believe in what we’re building. From the Bronx to people who supported us from outside of New York, we felt the love.

And now I have to say this…

@NYCMayor, I see you answering people and engaging with the community, so I hope you see this too.

Please help us get Belmont Playground included in a Parks capital project.

Our young people deserve a basketball court and park they can actually be proud of. By the time we celebrate our 10th Annual Love Day,I want us celebrating in a Belmont that has been restored and invested in.

We’re not asking for recognition. We’re asking for investment.

We’ve shown what our community can do with what we have.

Imagine what we can do with the resources we deserve.

34 days until BronxGiving! NYC schools, student clubs, businesses and community organizations, are you looking for a service project?

Help us bring Thanksgiving dinner and take-home groceries to Bronx families on November 22. Your group can host a pantry drive, collect canned vegetables and stuffing, write welcome cards or help pack grocery bags.

We have our venue, DJ, photographer, beverages and decorator secured, plus food pledges coming in. Now we need more helping hands to bring it together.

We haven’t received a BronxGiving donation in two weeks, but we’ve been getting things together. These are some of the snacks and drinks we’ve purchased so far.

BronxGiving’s family interest list is open!

On November 22, we’re bringing families together at Eminence Event Space to dress up, enjoy Thanksgiving dinner, take family pictures and spend time together.

This day means so much to me, and I’m excited to share it with our community.

Fill out **one form per household through the link in our bio**, including every adult and child who would attend.

Today was really one of those moments where I had to sit back and take it all in.

What started as a ribbon-cutting celebration at Earl Monroe turned into something so much more personal for me.

To have my son there and see his mother being celebrated in our school newspaper for the work I do with Love Day and Da People’s Assembly really meant everything to me. Because at the end of the day, he’s the reason I keep going, even on the days when I’m tired and have a million things on my plate.

Having my brothers, my coworkers, and a true friend there to share that moment and hear my story made it even better. I’m really grateful for the people who show up for me.

I just hope my son and all my kids, past and present, know that I do this work for them and for our community. I don’t always have it figured out. I get tired, I get frustrated, and some days I question how I’m going to get everything done. But I love what I do, and I love my kids.

And I want them to know that no matter where you come from, what you’ve been through, or what people think you can or can’t do, you still deserve to take up space. Especially in rooms and spaces where people who look like us haven’t always been welcomed or represented.

I’m just a Black girl from the Bronx who loves her community and refuses to forget where she came from.

And I’m far from done. ✊🏾

I need to be honest: BronxGiving is coming together, but I cannot do this by myself.

On November 22, Da People’s Assembly is creating a real BronxGiving experience for 200 families—good food, dignity, community, and pantry items they can take home afterward. We have a venue, a DJ, a photographer, and a whole lot of heart. Now we need our village to help fill the pantry.

This event falls on my grandmother’s birthday, and she taught me that when people are in need, you show up with what you have. Even if it is one bag, one box of cereal, one case of water, or $5 toward groceries.

Da People’s Assembly NYC is preparing a completely free Thanksgiving gala experience for registered Bronx and NYC families. Families will enjoy a seated dinner, portraits, music by @iamdjmazz, activities, groceries and beautiful memories together.
