My 10-year-old nephew Jace Young asked me on Friday morning, “Why did you come so late?” 🤭😝 Translation: “Why did you wait until Thursday to fly out to the Cal Ripken 10u Pacific Southwest Regional in NorCal?!?” My reply: “I’m saving my vacation in case you guys make it to the World Series.” 😉 He gave me a look like: “You’re crazy.” 🤨🤓

The tourney started on Monday…and the Mānoa team even suffered a shutout loss to the host team on Wednesday. But Crazy Aunty LoudDara knew they needed my loudness. 🤣🙊 Three “must-win” games later, the Mānoa 10u team is headed to the World Series in Indiana in August.

Congratulations to the players and coaches, who had to face the host team twice (once in pool play for their only loss, and again in the championship), and take down the top seed from the other bracket in the semis.

Twelve innings of baseball today alone and I still have plenty of voice left! 😆💪Congratulations to Mānoa’s 9u and 12u teams who also advanced to their World Series tournaments! When your sister offers you two of her Playoff tickets to see your team play hers…you know it’s going to be an epic day. ❤️💛💙🤍

When there’s a lot to celebrate in September and you’re a UH fan, you plan your weekends around UH football when Saturday nights are open.

Congratulations to The Man on his extreme home makeover; we celebrated with a menu that included Snake River Farms’ ribeye caps, 4 pounds of poke from Ry’s Poke Shack, a custom charcuterie board, Kauai Shrimp, OG Tostadas from Da Seafood Cartel and oh yeah, caviar and blinis. Call it a reunion 30 years in the making. 💙🩵💙

Once upon a time, we all worked together in the #KHON2 newsroom doing all kinds of crazy stories, including Presidential arrivals/departures at Hickam AFB, elections, political debates and Shaquille O’Neal in Hawaii. 😆 We all learned to work with different personalities in pressure situations.

Now after job changes, marriages, kids and lives…just say “Trivia Night” and the KHON2 OGs got together for the first time in three decades. We didn’t do too well but that’s okay…what do you expect for a bunch of people whose phones went on “sleep mode” in the middle of the competition? 😴🤣 It was a great night seeing all the OG reporters and news folks. And yup, NO cheating and using phones. Saturday marked the 18th time celebrating his birthday with him, and it just keeps getting better. ❤️ But after 18 birthdays, I’m out of superlatives to describe The Man.

He shows up for people. He is kind, caring and generous. He’s not loud or boastful, but you always know he’s in your corner. He has a way of making people feel seen and cared for — some of the many things I love most about him.

September 5 is a most perfect time to celebrate my two great loves: him and UH Football. 🏈 Home-opener vibes + timely birthday = excitement all day, especially those new front-row sideline tables. The game was a disappointment, but we made sure he felt the love late into the night.

Two things I love more than life itself: Football season and Virgo season. 🏈♍️

I have said that University of Hawaiʻi football was my first love as a little girl….50 years later, I’m still in love, and soooo happy the Rainbow Warriors are back on track for success.

Even after all these years, I probably couldn’t tell you correctly (the first time) where Mike, Sam and Will line up on the field, but I will always support this team. 🤭🤣🫣💚💚💚

Congratulations to Coach Timmy and his Queen Sherry (and her crew) for putting on the spectacular @BraddahhoodBall this weekend. It was AWESOME to be in the same room as some of the program’s most passionate supporters. I could’ve used one of them helmet centerpieces to shield my noggin from the furious bidding. 😂

And thanks to Tama Uiliata (@tamauiliata) for being our table Warrior. Such a good sport…he not only went into the photo booth with us, but also signed the centerpiece ball! 🏈🏈🏈 It’s Game Week! Golf used to be a weekly ritual for me. 🏌🏻‍♀️Then my body had other ideas. I seriously considered selling — or giving away, my treasured PXG irons. And giving away my extra balls…so many! Balls to the walls! ⛳️

The summer of 2023 was the last time I played a full 18 holes and didn’t feel like passing out. 😱Coming back hasn’t been easy. My swing isn’t where it used to be. My stamina isn’t what it once was. Most days, my back, knees and hips yell, “What you doing?!?!” 🤣 But my heart is still in it. For now, I’ll consider myself an official Scramble Tour member. 🤣👍⛳️

So thanks to my Sissy Pal @annaumemurata for putting together the 3rd Annual “It’s All About the Ladies” golf tournament benefiting the UH-Hilo Vulcan ladies’ golf team.

Every detail was impeccable…even down to personalized flasks, cute ball markers, awesome swag bag. All lady golfers should have this on their calendar. We have a World Champion in the family! 👑 Congratulations to baby nephew Jace Young and his HI-LVL teammates on an incredible, David vs. Goliath run through the Perfect Game 11U World Series [Silver Bracket] in Marietta, Georgia. The tourney started last week Friday with 84 teams across 🇺🇸 + 🇯🇵! ⚾️

Entering single elimination with a 2-2-1 record, they faced the ultimate challenge — needing five straight wins against powerhouse teams from Texas, Florida, and Georgia…plus, crazy rain and delays. And let me tell you….these teams’ parents bring fake noisemakers. 🙄 Too bad Aunty Cheeee Hoooo wasn’t there to go toe-to-toe with them! 😝🤙🤣 I am my own noisemaker!! 😂😂😂

Congratulations, Coach Shane Butcher, his staff and the HI-LVL boys. You make us proud!

After a few recent health setbacks (and the loss of my Dad), it felt especially meaningful to spend time with family and celebrate a huge milestone: the high school graduation of the Young family’s only 3rd gen. girl, Samantha Timmons @manthatimmons, in Argyle, TX.

A big thank you to my sister Lori and brother-in-law Kevin for hosting us so generously… and for making sure we made multiple trips to Central Market (HUGE grocery store that’s Whole Foods on steroids) and Trader Joe’s along the way! And gas is still only $4/gallon in Texas! Also, American Airlines continues to impress me. The Man and I got upgraded in the section BEHIND FC but we still got FC service, meals, amenities and beverages. And then there were four. My dad’s recent passing has left a hole in our family’s hearts, and it’s making me especially emotional this Mother’s Day. It’s also made me love and appreciate my own mom even more. For the last five years, she has been my dad’s sole caregiver, putting so much of her own life on hold, all while caring for me through my own health challenges as well. ❤️❤️❤️

My sister Lori and my SIL Kimi are absolute rocks — and rockstars — for their families (even though my brother does somewhat resemble The Rock 🤣). But truly, the real rocks are the moms and all those who take on a maternal role in raising future generations.

So today, I raise my glass to all the moms here on Earth and those watching over us from Heaven. Our love for you knows no bounds. 💞💞💞 #happymothersday #mothersday by @darayoung

With the “fun” birthdays behind me, #56 was about intentionally making it fun — like life itself. 🤣 A five-day feast that included lilikoi chiffon pie from Hamura’s Saimin; lemon crunch pie from Diamond Head Market & Grill; Tonkatsu Tamafuji, Afternoon Tea at the Moana Surfrider, Date Night at 38 and to top it all off: Dinner at Hy’s with a 2011 Opus One, Insignia, Pahlmeyer and Belle Glos with the loveliest people I’m lucky to know and love.

And finally…. I’m not 20 anymore. I’m 56 — and don’t need articulation training. 🎂🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ Just all the love from the best family ever, The Man (who gets awesomer each year), and incredible friends who remind me that every day is truly a gift. 🎁🎁🎁 #birthday #Pisces #PiscesSZN #MarchBabies by @darayoung
