Help make Darebin backyards safer for native wildlife🦜

From October to March, Darebin residents can swap harmful fruit tree netting for a safer alternative, with surrendered nets collected and recycled.

In Victoria, fruit tree netting must have a mesh size smaller than 5mm x 5mm at full stretch, as larger netting can trap and injure birds, bats and other native animals🐦🦇

Join the Darebin Aboriginal Advisory Committee and bring your knowledge, culture, experiences and perspectives to Council.

We’d like to hear from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from a range of backgrounds and experiences willing to share their knowledge, culture and community perspectives.

No qualifications or committee experience needed – just your voice and connection to community.

Exciting news for Fairfield Library!📚

Last week, Minister for Local Government The Honourable Tim Richardson joined Darebin Mayor Emily Dimitriadis and Member for Northcote Kat Theophanous to announce that our Living Libraries Victoria grant application for Extra Access at Fairfield Library was successful. 🎉

This funding will help Council expand access to library facilities, making it easier for our community to access the spaces, services and opportunities they need to stay connected, healthy and supported.

As part of the announcement, we took a tour of the library to explore the positive impact this investment will have for our community once implemented.

Extra Access at Fairfield Library is due to be launched in early 2028.📚 by @darebincouncil

Great news for @reservoir_leisure_centre! 🎉

We're upgrading the centre's changerooms and hot water system, thanks to funding from the Victorian Government's Local Sports Infrastructure Fund which supports Council’s $1M investment in these upgraded facilities.

The project will deliver more modern, accessible and fit-for-purpose changerooms, along with a new all-electric hot water system.

These improvements respond directly to community feedback and will help make Reservoir Leisure Centre an even more welcoming and inclusive place for everyone.

Darebin Arts Speakeasy is currently offering great opportunities for local performing artists!

Applications are now open for the 2027 Darebin Arts Speakeasy Developments Program, which offers space at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre for artists to test and develop innovative new works without a confirmed performance outcome.

All artists and companies are encouraged to apply; it is not a requirement to be a Darebin resident.

💚 Today is World Mental Health Day and this year's theme "Together We Thrive" reminds us that mental health is something we all have a role in supporting at work, at home and in our community.

This year, Darebin City Council has brought together community organisations, service providers, Council staff and people with lived and living experience through three important forums:
✨ Darebin Health and Wellbeing Forum
✨ Mental Health and Wellbeing Forum
✨ Darebin Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACCPYP) Futures Forum

These events created opportunities to connect, learn from one another, share experiences and strengthen the partnerships that help support our community's health and wellbeing.

On World Mental Health Day, we thank everyone who contributed their time, knowledge and lived experience. Your voices help create a more connected, inclusive and supportive Darebin for everyone.

Contribute to the flourishing creative community of Darebin via Darebin Arts Speakeasy’s Companies in Residence Program for 2027!

Performing arts companies are encouraged to apply for a residency, which aims to support independent companies to build upon their role in the sector, whilst cultivating a community of practice at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre.

All independent performance companies are encouraged to apply; it is not a requirement to be a Darebin resident.
