Behind the Scenes | Northcote Portraits 🎨

Every mural has a story, and sometimes the biggest challenge begins before the first brushstroke!

I’m thrilled to be one of the selected artists for the #NorthcotePortraits project, creating a mural at Lam Lam restaurant on High Street, Northcote.

Northcote Portraits is a wonderful community art project celebrating the people, history and local businesses that give High Street its unique character. All together, 17 artworks created by talented artists will be installed along High Street, celebrating the rich history and the multicultural community, transforming the neighbourhood into a vibrant outdoor gallery!

But first, the wall preparation!

The original tiled wall was hidden beneath years of old paint and layers of glued-on posters. Cleaning and preparing the surface turned out to be quite a challenge!

On a scorching hot day, Shae, Eva and I worked together to tackle the job. I can’t thank Shae and Eva enough for their incredible support, hard work and encouragement. I truly appreciate everything they’ve done to help make this mural possible! ❤️

Now that the wall is finally prepared, I can officially pick up my brushes and start bringing my vision to life!

Stay tuned for the transformation, and keep an eye out for all the amazing artworks appearing along High Street in the next few weeks! 🎨✨

A heartfelt thank you to Northcote Rise and DarebinCouncil for this wonderful opportunity.❤️✨🥰👍🏻

In its ninth year, the Darebin Schools Yarning Conference (DSYC) brought together 19 of the local Darebin primary schools to celebrate 50 Years of Deadly exploring the theme of NAIDOC Week, Truth-Telling, Treaty and Saying No to Racism.

Congratulations to all involved from the students and staff for completing the pre-learning conference work that enriched their experience of the day, to the cultural workshop facilitators, presenters and the Darebin team!

The conference including a range of cultural workshops and celebrated students’ connection and knowledge of the key themes as they proudly held up their posters during the Walk for Truth with Travis and Renata Lovett, carried their school’s Wurundjeri message sticks, and shared their poetry.

Reconciliation Victoria were honoured to be involved with the DSYC this year in organising the Educators’ Professional and Cultural Learning Day with Uncle Bill Nicholson, Wurundjeri Education team and the Darebin Team. Thank you to Darebin’s Jackie and Evander for the opportunity and congratulations to the whole Darebin team for hosting an amazing day of hope, truth and connection!

We look forward to sharing a more in-depth celebration on our Education Updates soon.

What a jam packed week, with plenty of kilometres travelled and so much deadly work happening along the way.
From kicking off the week at the AEU Mob Forum, to walking alongside 19 deadly @darebincouncil schools for the Yarning Conference and Walk For Truth, joining a great panel discussion with @greatermelbournefoundation and Wednesday @unimelb Melbourne Indigenous Leadership Conference hosted by Korin Korin, speaking on a panel about Values Driven Leadership.

Thursday heading to Canberra to provide @antar_national ACT David Hunter Memorial lecture and attending @winnunga_nimmityjah_ahs .

Today, I had the privilege of catching up with @min.murray_eventing and giving an impromptu lecture at @ouranu Indigenous Public Policy Course.
Yerrabi Yurwang was kind enough also host a Truth telling event.

It’s been a week full of connection, learning and inspiration. I can’t tell you how inspired I am by the work the mob are doing. Their commitment to community and creating change is inspiring.

Before heading home, I also made a quick stop to visit @wurrumay_collective, who supported us on the National Walk For Truth.

There is so much deadly work happening across communities, organisations and all ages and levels. It’s a reminder of what we can achieve when we come together, back our people and keep truth at the centre.
Feeling grateful for the yarns, the connections and the inspiration to keep going.

Walk For Truth! Days like today refill my cup and remind me why I keep doing this work and calling for a national truth telling process. The kids get it, they really do! The powerful poems we heard today were proof of that. They want to learn the truth and they deserve to have it taught in our schools.
A big thank you to Evander, Jackie and the whole team at @darebincouncil for organising such a deadly event, the Yarning Conference and showing what truth telling in schools can look like in practice.
Thank you also to the 19 schools, students and teachers across Darebin who made today what it was.

Lastly, it’s deadly to work alongside so many Blak businesses, organisations and people who embody Blak excellence and show what’s possible when First Peoples’ knowledge, culture and leadership are recognised, centred and celebrated.

One of the things I've loved receiving feedback on, and I genuinely am so grateful to past Ruhee for, is mastering the art of networking & building relationships. Business marketing 101 will tell you it's all about relationships, and networking is one of the best ways to build them.

Conscious networking is hard for those who strongly operate from a values-alignment standpoint, and thus, can *feel* hard for many. Although, I do pride myself in my clients finding me, because of thoughtful networking, relationships & investment in connections I've built over the years.

I'm passing on some valuable learning from everything networking I've learned in business over the years in this upcoming workshop by Darebin City Council for business owners: Business networking that works.

It's complimentary! Join if you think this will be valuable to you, and repost with your network so they can benefit ♻️

On Saturday 17 October 2026, St Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Church – Melbourne was honoured to welcome distinguished dignitaries, faith leaders and friends to our Egyptian Cultural Festival Banquet Lunch.

Celebrating 35 Years of Faith, Culture & Community, this gathering reflected the friendship, unity and mutual understanding connecting our parish with the wider community.

Guests enjoyed a guided church tour exploring the history and traditions of the Coptic Orthodox faith, followed by a banquet featuring inspiring addresses and ancient Coptic hymns presented by our deacons.

We were privileged to welcome:
• His Grace Bishop Rewis, Papal Legate of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Melbourne
• HE Mr Haitham Mokhtar, Consul-General of Egypt
• HE Mr Ahmad Hammad, Consul of Egypt
• Dr Judy Tang OAM, Former Victorian Multicultural Commissioner
• Cr Emily Dimitriadis, Mayor of Darebin
• Mrs Bernadette Khoury JP, representing Mr Evan Mulholland MP
• Ms Lynda Awad, Liberal Candidate for Northcote
• Dr Hamza Katranji, Liberal Candidate for Preston
• Rev Sandy Boyce, Executive Officer of the Victorian Council of Churches
• Leading Firefighter Grant Harvey, Multicultural Liaison Officer, Fire Rescue Victoria

We also welcomed our beloved Coptic clergy, representatives of the Anglican, Syriac Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, Melkite Catholic and Churches of Christ traditions, members of the Elsedeaq Islamic Society, and government and community representatives.

A highlight was the announcement of a $100,000 Victorian Liberal Party election pledge towards a lift to our church hall. Announced by Mrs Bernadette Khoury JP on behalf of Mr Evan Mulholland MP, this commitment would improve access for elderly parishioners and people with disabilities or mobility challenges. We sincerely thank them for their support.

Our heartfelt gratitude to HG Bishop Rewis for his fatherly love and blessings, to all our honoured guests, and to our clergy, Parish Board, deacons and volunteers for making this occasion possible.

Above all, we thank our Lord for His blessings. May St Mark’s continue to be a place of faith, hospitality and love for generations to come! #stmarkscocmelb

Big changes are coming to High Street, Preston! 🌳🚶‍♀️

The Albanese Government is investing $3.3 million through our Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program, alongside funding from Darebin City Council, to make our much-loved High Street safer, greener and more welcoming!

Preston is growing, with more and more people choosing to call our neighbourhood home. That means making sure our streets are safe, accessible and community-friendly for everyone.

Between Bell Street and Murray Road, we’re delivering wider footpaths, more than double the number of trees, new seating and lighting, and raised pedestrian crossings. High Street will also become Darebin’s first 30km/h zone!

Great to join Darebin Mayor @emilydimitriadis and Darebin Councillor @kristine.olaris_oam for a walk along High Street, visiting some of the fantastic local businesses that make Preston so special.

As our community grows, we’re making sure our public spaces grow with it! ❤️

@innernorthjobsforyouth - 17 years of creating brighter futures for young people 🙌

The Real Industry Job Interviews program, led by Inner North Jobs for Youth, is proudly celebrating its 17th year of supporting youth employment across Melbourne’s Inner North!

For nearly two decades, this fantastic initiative has helped thousands of senior secondary students take their first steps towards a successful career by developing essential job-seeking skills, creating standout resumes, and building confidence for job interviews 💼✨

I was delighted to present certificates of appreciation to the wonderful volunteers and supporters who have played such an important role in the program’s success ❤️

I don't want to hear it

"I'm bad at networking"

"I don't like selling myself"

"But I'm an introvert"

"I'm investing in Google & social media paid ads"

*last one oh-so controversial*

Like many things, networking is a skill that can be learned & built. I'm teaching focused, engaging & authentic ways to network for your business that will change the game for how you speak to people, and enter any room. If you've been looking to spice up your networking game and get social IRL, this is your sign.

It's free. What more could you ask for?

Sign up, come along & share with your neighbours hairdresser. ✨

I wrote a letter to my year 2 teacher asking to be the class president, and she apologetically told me that wasn’t a thing at age 7. It took us a couple of decades but we got there, madam Community Leader of the Year nominee ❤️
Lol it’s a cute memory.
Come be in my little crew.
Winner or not, I’m always gonna help people succeed in the right way for them.
