If you've seen Resident Artist @dariapenta's wall at the gallery, you know that she's painting irritated cats, weird moths, sparkly snakes and things as other (spooky) things all year round, but 'tis the season for the darker side of her art to shine! Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday and as always a HUGE thanks to @makinglocalmarkets for creating markets that feel like family. It’s been a minute since I’ve been outside with my art and I was once again reminded how much I love designing all the little booth details and how much I also love getting to talk to folks about my weird art and hearing about their cats who are also grouchy and learning which paintings match their tattoos. I have a busy market lineup for the next couple of months and this was a fantastic way to kick things off! 💖 by @dariapenta

Swamp witch cat in her final extremely judgmental form. 😒 She’s 11x14 and has reminded me how much fun it is to just mess around with a brush on paper. I’ll be showing the original at @greenwoodartcollective art walk tonight and I am fairly sure that a swamp witch cat sticker will be coming soon. 🐸 by @dariapenta

Here’s the other half of my work for June @greenwoodartcollective art walk — the Wednesday to my Pride collection’s Enid, if you will. These ghost moths will be up in the group show hosted by @mutinyartgallery and @briar.web.gallery, and the prints and stickers (and a very small monster flower temp tat!) will be gothing up the rainbow vibes with me inside @sugarwall.gallery. Heading over to @sugarwall.gallery to hang this year’s Pride collection for tomorrow’s @greenwoodartcollective art walk and actually remembered to take some pics first! 🏆 These were 🌈so fun🌈 to paint although some of the rainbows did test my tiny brush skills tbh. I’m very partial to the rainbow magic potion 🪄 but I think the Pride galaxy snakes might be my fave. Also! 4x6 Pride moth prints and some Pride moth stickers that can only be described as aggressively sparkly. 🤘💖🏳️‍🌈 taken in Greenwood Art Collective by @dariapenta

This piece for The Art of Tarot at @ghostgallery (opens Friday) might be my favorite painting of the year so far. I was really holding my breath that a few new techniques (shaped panel! Glitter inlay!) would come together and do justice to my favorite card in the deck, the Three of Swords. I wanted the heart to hold pain and rage but also transformation and resilience, which is the reading that always resonates the most with me. And then: sparkly.

I didn’t get much in the way of fancy process content but here’s something like a progression from panel > paint layer > glitter layer > finished piece. ❤️⚔️ by @dariapenta
