Meet Franco! 🐾 Franco is a one year old sweetheart who loves everyone he meets. He firmly believes he's a lap dog and would happily spend his day cuddled up with his people. When he's not snuggling, Franco loves playing fetch, running around the yard, and showing off his goofy personality. His favorite people are always greeted with happy jumps, spinning circles, and lots of excitement. Franco has wonderful manners, he's fully house trained and has never had an accident indoors, even when left alone for several hours. The only correction he's ever needed is a simple verbal "no." He gets along great with other dogs (with a slow, proper introduction) and does well with cats too. Franco does best with school aged kids. Meet Bear 🐾🐻🤎 Meet this handsome 5 year old male sable German Shepherd who is looking for a foster or, even better, his forever home. ❤️ He was owner surrendered and has been such a sweet, easygoing boy in his foster home. He currently lives with 3 dogs of all sizes (95 lbs, 60 lbs, and 8 lbs) and does great with all of them. He has played a little with the other dogs, although he enjoys lounging around more. He is also cat friendly! The cat has swatted him, and he simply doesn’t care. No reaction, no aggression just an “okay, anyways…” attitude. He is also wonderful with children and babies. There's a baby in the home, and he is gentle and sweet with her. He even wags his tail when he sees her. ❤️ Some of his best qualities: 🐾 Gentle and affectionate

HAPPY GOTCHA DAY, RIVER! ❤️🐾 Sometimes the best stories begin in the most unexpected places. River earned his name after being found in the San Antonio River Walk. Thankfully, someone stopped to help, got him to safety, and reached out to Darling Dog Rescue. When River came into our care, we discovered he had a microchip. Unfortunately, every form of contact was outdated, the phone number had been disconnected, the email went unanswered, and the address was no longer current. But fate had other plans. The kind person who rescued River reached out and expressed interest in adopting him. River entered a foster-to-adopt home while he completed all of his veterinary care, and once he was fully vetted, it was official, he had found his forever person. ❤️ Looking at these photos, it’s impossible not to smile. River was exactly where he was meant to be all along. The two of them make the perfect pair, and River’s big grin says everything we need to know. Happy forever, sweet River. ✨ Cleo is still waiting… and we know her family is still out there. ✨ Cleo has been waiting since May 2025 for a family to call her own. 💔 This medium sized, compact girl weighs around 40 pounds, making her the perfect size for just about any home. Her favorite place in the house? Perched on the back of the couch, watching the world through the window. It’s her happy place. 🩷 Just two months ago, Cleo celebrated one year in rescue, which meant another clean bill of health! She received her annual exam, vaccines, preventatives, and remains heartworm negative. She’s healthy, happy, and more than ready for her forever family. Cleo does well with other dogs, though she’d appreciate a proper meet and greet to help her feel comfortable. Once she’s made a friend, she loves to zoom around the yard, chase a ball, and then settle in for some well earned couch time. She has the perfect balance of playful energy and a calm “off switch.” Cleo has spent far too long waiting. 🚨 Our medical bills are piling up. 😭 The last six dogs we’ve taken in have all needed unexpected medical care, and the expenses have quickly become overwhelming. 💙 Moose came to us with what we thought was a broken leg.. X-rays confirmed it's an old broken leg that had healed incorrectly. We can't imagine him being "owned" and going without that necessary care. 💕 Muffins surprised us with a pregnancy shortly after intake, requiring an emergency spay and completing the rest of her vetting during surgery, her bill alone was over $500. 🩺 Nova and her two siblings came in with and are all being treated for a contagious fungal infection. ❤️ Kora came to us heartworm positive, and we immediately started her treatment. Kora is from the same hoarding property here in San Antonio , as our recently adopted Raven. 🐾 And our long-term girl Cleo was due for her annual exam, vaccines, and heartworm test. She hit a milestone we don't wish on any rescue dog🥺 Because of these unexpected medical cases, we are temporarily pausing intake until we can get our veterinary bills under control. This is heartbreaking, especially because we already have at least four dogs waiting for us that we simply cannot responsibly bring in right now. Darling Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and we rely entirely on the support of our community to continue saving lives. 🐾 FOUND DOG 🐾 This sweet pup recently came into our care after being found in the 78227 area. If you believe this may be your dog, please contact us as soon as possible. There was no microchip and no identification tags on the collar. Proof of ownership will be required. This dog appears to be well cared for and is clean, leading us to believe there may be a family currently searching for them. We will be holding a 3-day stray hold while we actively attempt to locate the owner. In the meantime, we are urgently seeking a foster home. Guess who had their vet visit? 🐾 Moose! ❤️ Moose went to the vet for a possible broken leg and a full medical workup. After X-rays, it appears his leg was broken at some point in the past and healed incorrectly. While we’re relieved it isn’t a new fracture, it’s heartbreaking to think he was left to live with a broken leg long enough for it to heal on its own without any medical care. Unfortunately, this is how his leg will remain, but it doesn’t stop this sweet boy from enjoying life. During his visit, Moose also received: 🐾 Vaccines 🐾 Microchip 🐾 4DX test (NEGATIVE! 🎉) 🐾 Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention His vet bill came to $274.51. Our last six intakes have all required significant medical care, from old injuries and a spay bort procedure to fungal infections, heartworm-positive dogs, and routine care for our long term residents. The bills continue to pile up, and we’re doing everything we can to keep saying “yes” to dogs in need. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve already received $180 toward Moose’s bill, leaving just $94.51 to go! 💙 If you’re able to help, no matter the amount, your donation goes directly toward Moose’s care and helps us continue rescuing dogs who have nowhere else to turn.
