I know, it sounds backwards, but effortless style is anything but effortless.

The women who always seem to look “effortlessly” put together have done the work.

They know what fits them. They know what makes them feel good. They know how to put pieces together. And they’ve built a wardrobe where the things they own actually work together.

That takes more than knowing your size or having a closet full of clothes.

It means figuring out what silhouettes flatter you, what proportions feel right, what colors you reach for, what pieces you actually wear, and what’s missing from your wardrobe.

That’s the part most people skip.

Instead, they keep buying more, getting dressed in a rush, and reaching for whatever feels easiest.

But if you want effortless style to actually feel effortless, you have to put in the work first.

That’s what building your style foundation is all about. by @darshangress

You don’t have to be on TV to feel amazing in what you wear.

I spent over 25 years styling some pretty incredible people for TV, living out the dream I had as a teenager. And I am SO grateful!

But somewhere along the way, I realized what I loved most about styling wasn’t actually about TV.

It was the people. Getting to know them, understanding who they are, and helping them express that through what they wear.

And that’s what I want for YOU.

Today, I get to bring that same love of styling to women (and men!) around the world.

Nothing gives me greater joy than working with a teacher, a lawyer, or a global leader, getting to know who they are at their core, where they’re going, and creating a wardrobe that gives them the energy and confidence to show up fully as themselves.

Whether you’re new here or you’ve followed my TV work for years, I thought it was time to share a little more about me, how I got here, and why I do what I do.

Swipe through for the story. by @darshangress

Trust me, I like to shop in stores too. But things have changed.

I’ve heard from many of you that you really dislike shopping online - I get it.

I used to feel the same way. But years ago, I had to change my mindset about online shopping.

And now? It’s where I spend most of my time shopping - for my clients and myself.

As I always say: Don’t hate the game, learn how to play it. So here are StyleD Tips for shopping online like a stylist:

Shop with a purpose. Don’t browse aimlessly. Know what you’re looking for before you start.

Know your measurements. Every brand sizes differently, but your measurements stay the same. They are far more useful than the number on the tag.

Treat your home as your fitting room. Order a couple of options, try everything on with pieces you already own, keep what you love, and send the rest back ASAP.

And always check the return policy first. I never purchase something that’s final sale or store credit only - that’s throwing money away.

Ever heard the phrase “You’ve got to slow down to speed up”??  This too applies to your style.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your style is pause shopping.

I know...that probably sounds backwards.

But if getting dressed still feels hard, buying something new isn't going to solve the problem.

First, you need to understand what you already own, what’s working, what’s not, and what's actually missing.

That's what The Closet Edit is for, my signature course where I take you step by step through my exact process I've taken countless clients through.

Comment "EDIT" if you'd like to learn more and get instant access.

It gives you the opportunity to step back and really look at your wardrobe before you spend another dollar.

Then, when you do go shopping, it feels fun again because you’re not guessing.

And that's how you stop wasting money on clothes that never get worn. by @darshangress

Life has changed so much for me over the past 10+ years.

Sometimes it knocks the wind out of me and I feel like I can’t catch my breath when I think about it.

I’m deeply grateful for the past few years - the ups and downs. There are always lessons buried in the hard moments. But that doesn’t change the fact that parts of it were, and are, really hard.

If you’ve read this far, a reminder - Instagram can be a highlight reel of some sorts. While I’ve shared some of the downs, some are mine to walk through on my own - to learn the lessons, and put my faith into action.

The more I get to work with inspiring and incredible people, the more I see that at the core, we are all humans juggling the good and bad, no matter how it looks on the outside.

If you’re in a hard season right now - you are not alone. Try to find the lesson in it. Let it become a springboard, not a setback. And when you can, take a breath and look for things to be grateful for. #Jer2911 by @darshangress

I was just in Virginia visiting my parents, and of course my mom wanted to hit the outlet mall - it’s close by.

There was a time I would’ve been the first one in the car.

Years ago, those outlets had stores like Barneys and Saks. It really used to be a great place to shop - those days are gone.

Now my mom walks through and always says, “There’s just nothing here.” And she’s right.

She still goes because it’s twenty minutes from her house.

And I get it.

When something is close, familiar, and easy, it becomes the default.

The problem is, after a while, you can start building your whole wardrobe around whatever happens to be nearby.

I see this with clients all the time.

They keep going back to the same mall, the same stores, the same few places because they are convenient.

But they feel like they can never find anything they love.

This is not about shopping at an outlet, it’s about shopping too close to home.

If the stores closest to you aren’t filled with pieces that excite you, the problem isn’t your style.

Your wardrobe deserves a little more intention than “this was the easiest place to get to.” by @darshangress

This is what I actually tell new clients - sometimes even before we start working together.

We think the problem is our body, our budget, what’s even available in stores right now. It’s rarely any of those things.

Save this so it’s here the next time you’re standing in your closet overwhelmed. by @darshangress

Funny story: I asked my significant other about the dress in this video when I was doing my own closet edit awhile back - he was not a fan.

A week later I wore it and when I walked out the door he told me how great I looked. I reminded him it was the same dress he didn’t like a week ago. His response: you weren’t wearing heels last week.

Same dress. Different opinion. Nothing about the dress actually changed.

That’s the thing about asking for style feedback - most people aren’t reacting to whether something reflects you. They’re reacting to whether they personally like it or not. Those are two very different things.

An opinion on your outfit is just that - their opinion. And style and taste are completely subjective.

So next time you ask someone’s opinion, just remember - that’s their taste talking. Not necessarily yours. taken in Rome, Italy by @darshangress

You know what’s chic

When you walk out the door and you FEEL amazing from the inside out.

Joyful. Energized. Confident. Powerful. Whatever it is for you.

That’s where we start - not with the clothes, but with the feeling. Before I ever ask what you want to wear, I want to know how you want to feel.

So
how do YOU want to FEEL when you walk out the door each morning? by @darshangress

I don’t use clothing to help women become someone else.

I use clothing to help them look like the woman they already are becoming.

That distinction matters more than people realize. So many women come to me thinking they need a transformation - a whole new look, a whole new “them.”

But the woman underneath hasn’t changed. She’s been evolving all along - in her career, her confidence, what she values, how she leads. Her wardrobe just hasn’t caught up yet.

That’s the work. Not inventing someone new. Making the woman she’s already becoming, visible. by @darshangress

When I tried on this blazer, I asked myself the same question I ask every client

Am I wearing it? Or is it wearing me?

Sounds simple, but not always an easy one to answer - especially if you haven’t stopped to think about what you actually want to say about yourself.

Maybe you do know. You’re just moving too fast to actually stop, look in the mirror, and ask: is this reflecting ME?

Liking something and it reflecting you aren’t always the same thing.

Trends are fun. I love playing with proportions and trying new things. But there’s a difference between wearing something because it’s exciting, and wearing something because it’s YOU.

So next time you’re in a store (or in your own closet doing an edit) make sure the look isn’t drawing attention away from who you are.

And FYI...I got the pants (love them!) but I left the blazer at the store. by @darshangress

The biggest reason your closet feels frustrating isn’t that you don’t have enough clothes. It’s that you can’t actually see what you have.

If there’s one thing I hear at every Closet Edit, it’s this:

“OMG! I totally forgot I had that!”

Which tells me one thing...they weren’t wearing it.

And that’s one of the biggest reasons your closet feels frustrating. It isn’t always that you don’t have enough clothes. It’s that you can’t actually see what you have.

Here’s where I disagree with most closet edit advice...

I don’t believe you should automatically get rid of something just because you haven’t worn it in a year.

That advice assumes the item is the problem. I don’t think it is.

Sometimes the problem is that you couldn’t see it.

Sometimes you don’t know what to wear it with.

And sometimes certain special pieces simply aren’t meant to be worn every week.

That’s why I always ask WHY you haven’t been wearing it before deciding what to keep or let go.

A Closet Edit isn’t just about letting go.

It’s about rediscovering what you already own, organizing your wardrobe so you can actually see everything, and identifying the real gaps before you buy anything new.

This is the exact process I teach inside The Closet Edit because I truly believe great style doesn’t begin in the fitting room - it begins in your closet. by @darshangress
