My Precious Paua,
 You chose your role in my life from day one. While your siblings rushed to greet me, you held back—aloof, calm, watching. Different. Beautiful. A tan pup with a blue-painted face, bearing a name that honored my Nana: Paua, a treasure from the sea.

You became my little sunshine. Every morning began with your joy, every night ended with a kiss on your head. We had our rituals, our mischief, and a bond that didn’t need a leash or command. You were velcro. If I was going, you were going.

People always noticed your giant paws—but what made you special was the size of your heart. Quiet, thoughtful, protective, calm. You never barked—you observed. You had no brakes, but your brain was always on. A true game dog, with intellect that set you apart.
I watched you become a powerful, capable force in training.

When you weren’t on the sleeve, you were pure love. Gentle with babies. Kind to everyone. Destined to serve and bring comfort. You lit up every room, every trail, every adventure. You adored your brothers Guapo and Bowie, your sister Ursa, and everyone who crossed your path.

Now, the truck feels empty.

The house quieter.

Our family forever changed.

You were a solid rock of happiness.

We love you. We miss you.

You will always be my sweet Mooshy Moosh.

Felt like a good time to share…

Our family doesn’t really share our business publicly and we definitely don’t ask for help. When our father had cancer, we didn’t tell anyone whose last name wasn’t “Ross”. When our house burned in 2007, we dealt with it on our own.

But, we’re not everyone. And sometimes, you need a tough dog for a fight you’re too exhausted and emotionally tired to get into.

So, we’re sharing. Here to help. With love. Because Malibu will always be my childhood home, and although the people aren’t the same as when I grew up, the land is still alive as ever. @rossbuildersla @dashross taken in Malibu, California by @dashross

These are the salad days. This year has been a reminder that tomorrow is never a guarantee.

Runs like this *are* the point. Pushing hard because it’s fun and feels good and the legs want to GO. No f@cks given, no personal bests, just a lot of personal breathing, and nothing to show for it at the end except a feeling you can’t explain.
