Today is my birthday, and all I wish is for my friend, Yaakub Ira Vijandre, to be free. Since October 7, 2025, he has been unlawfully held by ICE; not for his immigration status, but for using his platform to speak out on the oppressive systems that are now being used against him. His First and Fifth Amendment rights are constantly being violated, and as of December, his DACA status has been unlawfully terminated. On January 6th, his merits hearing was held, which will determine whether or not he’ll be freed or deported to the Philippines. However, a decision is — for whatever reason — still pending. Just know that if deportation is what winds up being decided, that STILL would be going against the law.The fight continues on for his long overdue release, and that is where I call upon your help. Yaakub’s family still needs funding, both to cover the legal fees and the ancillary fees. If you can donate to at least ONE of the fundraisers and DM me a receipt, that would mean so much. I also ask that if you are in the U.S. and have yet to sign the petition, please do so. That will be sent to your district and state representatives, demanding that they take action in calling for Yaakub’s release. You can go to the links featured in this post or in my bio.If you also want to get involved in the campaign advocating for his release or want to keep up to date on his case, please go to @freeyaakub. What is happening to him isn’t getting nearly as much attention as it should.Show up for his family the way many of you have shown up for the family of #ReneeGood. Is #TBT still a thing? Well, on this #InternationalMigrantsDay, let’s have it be!We throw it back to that hot summer day in 2022, weeks before our Kickstarter was launched, yet progress was already in motion. Jacob/Yaakub flew out to the Bay Area to work with us on choreographing the fight scenes, 360 camera and all. What I wouldn’t give to go back to that day…Tuesday marked 10 weeks since he was abducted. Tuesday marked 2 weeks since his DACA status was terminated. We acknowledge this second anniversary of “Dasig” bittersweetly as we’ve received an update about the case of our stunt choreographer, Jacob (Yaakub) Ira. We are disgusted to learn of his First Amendment rights being violated, and horrified that his DACA status has been revoked. Let this be clear that what is happening is an act of authoritarianism, and that we stand in solidarity with his family and the Dallas community in demanding for his DACA status be reinstated and for his immediate release from ICE detention.As stated previously, “Dasig” would not be what it is had it not been for Jacob’s contributions. It is because of his choreography that that is why Magellan doesn’t emerge triumphantly in the end. We call for the contrary in Jacob’s story.#FreeYaakub by @dasig1521
