A pleasure to illustrate this Portuguese <~~> English bi-lingual children’s book by the renowned Lidia Jorge, one of Portugal’s greatest writers! It’s bouncy, bright, bonkers (donkey eats wedding cake bonkers!), fresh & funny, & lots of fun! Published by the lovely folk at Lisbon based Dom Quixote.

AVAILABLE FOR EVENT HIRE 👨🏻‍🎨
✏️ Please contact me if you’d like me to sketch folk at your event ✍️
I attend your event > I sketch faces from the booth > sitters sit for a minute or 2 > tokens go in the PLEASE PAY HERE THANKS slot > artwork delivered out the TA DAH slot > it’s playful & pretty unusual ✍️

spent much of last Saturday sketching from inside a cardboard box! Actually, it’s a PORTRAIT BOOTH, as you can see. Step up, donate a little money to a great cause, take a seat & have your face illustrated! Portraits scribbled at high speed through the viewing~portal. Zero A.I in sight.

Yes, pretty bonkers, but what excellent fun to be drawing kids & parents at Bruntsfield Primary School Rock Festival. Event~organised by the amazing @cassandraharrison7 🎸& joined in portrait~ing by ✏️ @jennyelliottdesign (+ thanks for the photos, Jenny 🙏) Inside the box/booth are various compartments for art materials. Interaction & banter with my sitters was so much fun!

Jumped at this lovely idea proposed by Cassandra. I’m usually up for sommat bonkers like this if it creates smiles & fundraises. If you have an event that you’d like me to attend with this entertaining self~designed fold~away booth~of~sketch please do get in touch.

Th🙏nk you @jennyelliottdesign for many of these photos!

Aren’t dogs a bit brilliant?! In honour of my favourite dog who I’ve not seen for a week cos of a bad back. I’ve spent a wee while collating art projects & pieces & as part of that, reworked a couple of dog pieces. These were drawn in the moment I soured by real life moments. by @daveasutton

Dog folk of Beverley. Biking at dusk thru’ the East Yorkshire town I grew up in I happened upon a circle of dogs that had brought along their owners for a spot of training & playful play. They dispersed as I got my sketchbook out, leaving me just enough time to capture just three left hanging out.

East Coast of UK view from a train. This beautiful journey from Edinburgh to Yorkshire is a treat. I’m not able to stop time (or a train) to capture a landscape so this stretched visual is an amalgamation of what I see flashing by… the homesteads, the clumps of trees, fences, wind turbines ~ and the dots up on the hill are sheep.

We have gotten our numbers mixed a bit, but on checking our app this is number 34 of the 40 big #scottiesinthecity @wildinart @maggiesscottiestrail - the bold and bright Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! by @daveasutton which was at the entrance to Glasgow Green on the Saltmarket, opposite the High Court of Justiciary.
.
We kept driving past this bad boy but finally got to walk over and see it properly in the last week of the trail. It was very popular, so getting photos without others was tricky but we think we didn’t do too badly.
.
We were there as Pipe Bands (bagpipe bands) from around the world were starting to arrive in Glasgow for the World Pipe Band Championships, held every August in Glasgow Green. We even managed to get a photo of one that had arrived and gathered under some trees to start acclimatising their instruments to the Glasgow summer air (it was a warm@day!).
.
The arch behind the Scottie is the McLennan Arch, a neoclassical structure designed by the Adam Brothers. It was built in 1792 about half a mile or more away on Ingram Street as the entrance to the Assembly Rooms, but eventually moved to its current location in 1991! Strangely, Baillie James McLennan, for whom it is named, didn’t commission the original arch but seems to have helped preserve it from what we can see. He was a 19the century Justice of thePeace, a type of Scottish Magistrate that still@exists today as a lay judge in the lowest criminal courts. Baillie was his legal title, not his first name - that was James. We cant get much information on him other than him being a merchant. Glasgow had many tobacco and spice merchants in the 1700s and 1800s and streets and buildings and statues commemorate them all over the city.
.
Further back in the park we also came across a memorial we have never seen before - an upside down boat! It is the Irish and Highland famine memorial. We definitely need to learn more about this. It was unveiled in 2018 to commemorate those who died in the 19th century famines and led to so many emigrating ti North America in particular.
.
Dogs and history, what a great day this was!!

Say it fast - Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! 🐶
@daveasutton shares the inspiration behind his Scottie dog sculpture, which features around 30 different doggy characters (and a rather nervous looking cat). Swipe to read ➡️

'Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs!' has been generously sponsored by our friends at Trust Housing Association and can be found by the McLennan Arch at the Western entrance to Glasgow Green.

Explore the trail and help @maggiescentres to be there for people facing cancer today, tomorrow and always by picking up a Scotties in the City map for a suggested £2 donation at Born in Scotland in Buchanan Galleries. by @daveasutton
