POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We have gotten our numbers mixed a bit, but on checking our app this is number 34 of the 40 big #scottiesinthecity @wildinart @maggiesscottiestrail - the bold and bright Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! by @daveasutton which was at the entrance to Glasgow Green on the Saltmarket, opposite the High Court of Justiciary.
.
We kept driving past this bad boy but finally got to walk over and see it properly in the last week of the trail. It was very popular, so getting photos without others was tricky but we think we didn’t do too badly.
.
We were there as Pipe Bands (bagpipe bands) from around the world were starting to arrive in Glasgow for the World Pipe Band Championships, held every August in Glasgow Green. We even managed to get a photo of one that had arrived and gathered under some trees to start acclimatising their instruments to the Glasgow summer air (it was a warm@day!).
.
The arch behind the Scottie is the McLennan Arch, a neoclassical structure designed by the Adam Brothers. It was built in 1792 about half a mile or more away on Ingram Street as the entrance to the Assembly Rooms, but eventually moved to its current location in 1991! Strangely, Baillie James McLennan, for whom it is named, didn’t commission the original arch but seems to have helped preserve it from what we can see. He was a 19the century Justice of thePeace, a type of Scottish Magistrate that still@exists today as a lay judge in the lowest criminal courts. Baillie was his legal title, not his first name - that was James. We cant get much information on him other than him being a merchant. Glasgow had many tobacco and spice merchants in the 1700s and 1800s and streets and buildings and statues commemorate them all over the city.
.
Further back in the park we also came across a memorial we have never seen before - an upside down boat! It is the Irish and Highland famine memorial. We definitely need to learn more about this. It was unveiled in 2018 to commemorate those who died in the 19th century famines and led to so many emigrating ti North America in particular.
.
Dogs and history, what a great day this was!!

Another day, another 5 Scotties checked off:
1. Dogs Dogs Dogs. Strong contender for our favourite (orange is dad’s favourite colour, birds which are mum’s favourite and dogs which is everyone’s favourite).
2. Tunnocks tea cake travel patches - it has a teacake on the bum hole 🤭
3. Kibble - this one is misleading. It’s named for the Kibble Palace at the Botanics - not for dog kibble. Nevertheless, it’s very pretty 🤩
4. Beam Me up Scottie on Ashton Lane - the Star Wars Scottie
5. A reasonably accurate map of Glasgow. Mum can’t map read anyway so this is ideal 🤣
6. Rogue picture of some greyhound statues 🩷

Can you spot any of your favourite Scottie’s in the background? 🐾🎨 My design for @maggiesscottiestrail was almost ready for the trail by day 15 of painting, and it was so fun and satisfying to paint the bottom of the sculpture!

Say it fast - Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! 🐶
@daveasutton shares the inspiration behind his Scottie dog sculpture, which features around 30 different doggy characters (and a rather nervous looking cat). Swipe to read ➡️

'Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Dogs!' has been generously sponsored by our friends at Trust Housing Association and can be found by the McLennan Arch at the Western entrance to Glasgow Green.

Explore the trail and help @maggiescentres to be there for people facing cancer today, tomorrow and always by picking up a Scotties in the City map for a suggested £2 donation at Born in Scotland in Buchanan Galleries.

There is currently a Scottie In The City Trail in Glasgow. A number of painted Scottie Dogs, dotted across the City.

Decided to do a circular walk around the City Centre (6.3 miles) capturing 13 Scotties, and a few murals along the way.

The trail was created by @wildinart for the fantastic Maggie’s Charity. @maggiesscottiestrail

I had the opportunity to play with Riso recently with @roughdraft_edi, co-creating a zine about birds with local talented Illustrators, including @daveasutton and @dinktoons and Cynthia Girardin.

I keep meaning to play around with making zines, I just never find the time. I perhaps need someone to set me a goal, theme and some parameters so I'm more motivated. Any suggestions?

I was definitely all over the place for @drawingisfree_org today, but it was a lovely hour, as always. Glad to see your return, Chloe; thank you for this special time of creativity. Thanks (and sorry, probably) to all who posed.
