I saw this incredible piece of cinema last night @theodysseymovie
It has been a long time where I’ve sat for 3 hours just staring at the screen, palms sweaty and fully invested. It’s a monster of a film, you don’t see many like this anymore, a throwback to these epics from 50 years ago, but on a whole different scale. It still makes me laugh that Christopher Nolan was rejected from film school, I am sure they very much regret that decision now. The story flowed beautifully. The thunderstorms terrifying. Considering how legendary this tale is, you can easily get it wrong, but in my opinion, it worked. For me Samantha Morton @samanthamorton (Circe) absolutely stole the show, naturally brilliant and so at ease on screen. This for me was Matt Damon’s best work (even though I loved the Bourne films), he had the strength and wisdom to play the King, and did so effortlessly. The chemistry between Odysseus and Penelope @annehathaway was clear, great casting. My personal opinion - I still hold Oppenheimer and The Prestige higher, but this was a fantastic achievement. Congratulations to the entire team and I will certainly be seeing this again 👏 (a MUST see on 70mm film!!)

This weeks cinema viewing 🎥🍿

Toy Story 5 - considering how much I LOVE 1-3, I was happy that @pixar came back strong with the fifth. The second photo basically sums up the brilliance of an idea for this film, the toys making way for devices, which is a huge issue right now, children are forgetting how to play. Finding the right balance between tech and playtime, is hugely important for development, but both can work together. I was hoping for more of Woody and Buzz, but this was Jessie’s film and she led it brilliantly!

Disclosure Day - Spielberg and aliens? What’s not to love. This was an interesting watch and one I was very much looking forward to. Having watched The Age of Disclosure (pre film watching) I was hoping for a little more “details” (based on the interviews) but sticking to a two hour sci fi summer blockbuster, it would’ve been tricky to keep the flow. The main cast were superb, especially Emily Blunt and @kingofbingo
A great ride, based on a really important part of modern history, will we finally get some answers?
It’s had a lot of criticism, but @disclosureday was certainly brilliantly created and made with passion from a brilliant director ❤️ by @davidaldridge_

An amazing night was had at the Royal Festival Hall watching the gala performance of Rental Family at the @britishfilminstitute

🎥 review - Before the main event @thehikarism spoke about what we should expect, she mentioned a story of isolation and loneliness, with a backdrop of a beautiful Japan. She prepared us well. I had no understanding of the reality of rental families before, for me a very surreal concept. But sometimes such things are necessary for those seeking it. Brendan Fraser (who delivered an incredible performance) was asked if there was anything we as an audience should take away from this film, he commented “there is always room for kindness”. Quite fitting for this story. @rentalfamilyfilm

🎥 Review (no spoilers, I swear)
Having watched the documentary some years ago surrounding John Davidson’s struggles with Tourette’s syndrome, I was unsure a retelling would work. I’m so happy I was wrong, the storytelling was incredible. Incredibly moving and powerful. I haven’t seen such a raw film for some time, @robertaramayo absolutely blew me away and should be up there for award season. Stunning work for all involved, including Shirley Henderson, Peter Mullan and Maxine Peake. For me, one of the best films of the year, a must see. These stories need to be told.
