My happy place

A cluttered but quiet part of the house, where I will shortly record The Week in Words for BBC Radio.

And what lovely clutter it is.

Constantine, from Octopus Energy and Octopus Electric Vehicles in front of me and just above?

Medals, from my daughters incredible Paralympian, World Championships and Commonwealth Games achievements.

Been doing this spoken-word piece for local radio for nearly 3 years now, and last week I asked listeners to send me their important news, to form this week's piece.

The production team were nervous.

"What if no-one sends anything?!"

I have a different outlook.

Instead of "What's the worst that could happen?"

I go for

"What's the BEST that could happen?"

The listeners didn't let me down.

A celebration of them, their stories, and of what local BBC Radio does for the community goes out tomorrow morning on @bbcsussex , Surrey and Kent

A nice way to start the day

Sitting to record The Week in Words for the @allison.ferns Breakfast Show on @bbcsussex

A different angle this week.

One that asks for and, hopefully, prompts interaction from the listeners, and you!

Have a listen on @bbcsounds tomorrow as it'll go out at around 06:50 and 09:50 too, across BBC Radio Sussex, Surrey and Kent.

Collecting stories and using snippets to flow from makes my brain and heart happy, so hopefully next weeks piece will be formed by strangers, and that will be a dream 😊

Today is World Heart Day

I have a bionic one, my mum had a bionic one, and people I know and admire and am amazed by have special ones, too.

My love to you @whisperingbob @youaortaknow @laura_loves_mountains_ and all at @aorticdissectct

Tomorrow would be my mum's birthday, and I shall be smiling as I think of her.

Smiling is important.

It keeps people alive, for ever.

It's been a few weeks since I've been on air on @bbcsussex with @allison.ferns but this week, the pen twirled again, an event with @donnaashworthwords popped up on my feed and it felt like I was being asked to use words to help, myself maybe.

This went out today, and I hope it gives an insight into the power of kindness that was celebrated this week at the Make a Difference awards.

Writing and recording is my safe space, and sharing tales will always fill my bionic heart

Amidst the recent chaos and kerfuffle, today has been approaching, and it has been a special day.

My beautiful, inspiring, kind, and funny girl, @fabienne_1996 turned 30 today, which is WAY more of a thing for me than her!

I mean, I'm the same age, right? So is she just catching me up?

Either way, it has been a day good for the soul

A week ago tomorrow, a long drive to go to this place and share air, time and thoughts, before "visiting"

Less than a week on? Our visit yesterday was to a clean smelling place, where we sat and made plans, to bring someone "into their care"

Then shared secret glances and, almost, chuckles, about where they will be set free.

A lake in Cumbria, where such things are frowned upon

And dad? He cries. He just cries. A few seconds that show the unimaginable shock and pain.

The tears drip, for a second.
The touch of the liquid fuses the circuit.
And then he resets, as if nothing just happened.

But everything just happened. Everything

Everything IS happening.

But, in the middle of it all.

At the centre of it all

So is

love

One of my favourite places in the world, with one of my favourite people.

So much to say about this place, and a spoken-word piece called "Nostalgia" still floats around on @bbcsounds that has it at its heart.

No Week in Words this week, as I'm up visiting and adulting, but I'll be back next week, hopefully.

Go find some space and air somewhere today.

I didn't think I could have more respect and love for @feedbacknorm @officialfatboyslim but then I listened to Desert Island discs today on my way to work.

The only islander to want not to escape, but for more castaways to wash up, so he can be a "professional show off" and have a party!

A song by The Muppets as one of his 8 treasured tracks, and gentle tales of his progress, amazing multiple talents and ongoing victory over addiction.

He helped me when I was fundraising for @prostatecanceruk and was as warm and generous with me as a friend would be.

I helped a little in return, hopefully, when I led a Celebration of Life service for someone he knew as a dear friend.

Good souls are rare finds.

Norman? Unofficial King of Brighton?

I salute you. We salute you.
