I was always wondering where this was. I had the opportunity to take a picture, but it was after a long, long day so I didn't jump on. I'm not even sure you're supposed to...probably not. OKC has changed so much, but change doesn't have to be an overhaul. It can simply be growth from consistency. I always have to make this about me on here, don't I...

I didn't forget about Father's Day. But he wouldn't have minded that my mom got the attention for the weekend. I thought more of a bare aesthetic would be appropriate, since that's what I normally see when I visit.

We have a bench out there by his grave. This is what I see when I sit. It's a pretty peaceful location. I'm thankful for the life I have that he helped provide me. His sacrifices took care of our family. by @davidburkhart

It's been a rough time recently, but my family and I are doing okay. I appreciate all of the messages and support. In the meantime, I found time to see my fellow Pollard friends in Leader of the Pack. I found it to be a highly enjoyable afternoon, and it was so much fun to see people I've admired and worked with over the past year steal the hour with their incredible dancing and singing. Job well done, everyone! I'm also happy to have spent time with everyone after the show! taken in Pollard Theatre Company by @davidburkhart

Lending credence to the powers that watch over us in times of need. These past few days have been incredibly difficult, with family having a rough go of it. This was taken in the ER, but days later, things are finally looking up. by @davidburkhart

A week ago, I saw Southern Plains Productions' iteration of The Last Five Years. It was my first time seeing the show, and it was a visceral evening of color, texture, and physical prowess from both the performers and the technical production. Above all that lay a captivating play structure—one story starts at the end of the relationship while the other starts at the beginning. It was something to experience. The juxtaposition caused me to reflect quite a bit on my own journeys.

It is hard to share your life with somebody when your dreams are so lofty they consume just about every decision you make. I guess that's the gift and the curse of pursuing an artistic career. Sometimes the thing that's worst for you is actually the best for you. Still...is it worth trying regardless, and are the journeys worth it in the end if the end is inevitable? Something to think about I guess.

Bravo to the performers, and to Southern Plains for existing and offering something different in town. Theatre is everywhere, here. I was also pleased to run into some old friends at the show. I go to a lot of shows alone, but I'm happy to share seats with other theatre lovers. Let's ponder life together. taken in Civic Center Music Hall Freede Little Theatre by @davidburkhart

They don't hang out here, but I like to think they visit when enough attention is paid—at least long enough to see the flowers we leave. My mom and I decorate the graves of my dad and my grandparents every Memorial Day. We hope they like it. I think it looks quite nice. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø by @davidburkhart

I like to post on social media for record-keeping purposes, but time got away from me when it came to posting over the last number of months. As I prepare to audition with them again, I wanted to remind myself of the outstanding time I had in The Odd Couple (The Female Version) at the Pollard Theatre Co. Just making this post helped me relive some fond memories.

I played Spanish lover boy Manolo Costazuela opposite Hagen Wano as my character's brother Jesús. He was honestly one of my favorite people to work with — ever — as we ran our scene backstage multiple times every single night. It was so comforting and fun knowing our fallback was a well-oiled machine we could do in our sleep. In return, we had such a time with our scene every night. If people ever comment on my work, I feel they bring up this role more than any other I've had in recent memory! Thanks to directors Timothy Stewart and Megan Montgomery, and my fellow actors, I put out some of my best comedic work.

I also got to share the stage with a prime group of females: Holly McNatt (whom I starred with in her play Blueprints for a Breakup — a great memory of mine), Crystal Barby (long known, but first time on the stage together), and an ensemble of funny ladies — Joey, Tiffany, Cory, and Brooke. They all helped make this an incredible experience for me, and I'm thankful to the Pollard for taking a chance on me again. Hope there's a few more in there. :)

Shout out to the awesome crew: Annette (OUTSTANDING costumes), Henry, Michael, Larz, Jared, Joel, Luna, Laila (for the licorice), and Ollie.

I'm sharing some photos to help me remember this. Also, this Whitney song was the first one played when the house was open. It really does bring back a flood of positive memories. Thank you to everyone who made the drive to Guthrie to see me work. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I had fun being in it.

Birthday week is officially over — but this one felt worth documenting. Two years ago, I started training with my friend and trainer Lauren Merk during one of the more vulnerable chapters of my life. I needed to reconnect with the tenacity and intensity I have always had — the part of me that pushes hard when things get harder. I found it. And I have more of it now than ever. Four days a week. Every week. Through a busy schedule, through a small injury (it happens when you get older šŸ˜„), through everything. taken in Gold's Gym by @davidburkhart

This is what I’ve seen most nights this past month: the Pollard Theatre, on a special little strip in Guthrie, OK — a place that’s welcomed and encouraged me as I attempt to do very hard things on a stage.I’m back for round three here with The Odd Couple (The Female Version), directed by Megan Montgomery and Timothy Stewart. We open next week. Neil Simon’s comedy is great on its own, but the work our ensemble has put in has pulled all the theatre magic off the pages. There’s gold to dig out with every line.

Today we had our first preview audience, and their laughter was so fun to play off of., and a reward for our hard work. We’re having a great time, and I’ve even made some incredible new friends along the way. I always want my social media to be a diary of (mainly) highlights — not for any other reason than looking back and thinking I did okay among the changing sea that is the world.

So here I am, in a new show that opens in a week. I’m fortunate to be part of such a strong cast. taken in Pollard Theatre Company by @davidburkhart

I want to thank everyone who reached out to greet me on my birthday. I received the texts, DMs, and the occasional in-person well wishes. My day was like any other, but that’s something I’m very proud of. I’ve worked extremely hard this past year in order to challenge myself and better myself. I don’t have a lot of time for things, and that’s probably by design. Still, people reach out, and I’m grateful for that. Thank you.

One other thing I’m grateful for is this tree. It’s my favorite one that only sprouts like this once a year around this time. If there’s something consistent during my birthday month, it’s that I can count on this tree being one of my favorite sights in my day. by @davidburkhart

I don’t always share what I do day-to-day in terms of my full-time work, but I thought I would start, as it’s a huge part of my life and current purpose. I’ve been with OU Film and Media Studies for over four years now, working behind the scenes with my co-workers to build and maintain the infrastructure our students need as they learn the craft of making films. It’s the kind of work that makes hands-on learning possible—and it also affords me the opportunity to pursue a creative life of my own.

Recently, we invited award-winning filmmakers Max Walker-Silverman and Juliana Barreto Barreto to our school as part of the Ned Hockman Speakers Series (our fourth one overall). It was a successful event where the filmmakers were able to screen and talk about their work and give personalized advice to our students on their creativity and future filmmaking careers. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the team coordinating the event—and to spend time with the two of them, introducing them to a small part of Oklahoma.

Please feel free to follow @OU_FMS to keep up with the department and what we do!
