Arlyn was the first person to befriend me shortly after I moved to Texas from England. I met him at a car show at a church in The Woodlands and he invited me to join a weekly lunch group they called “The Bull Session”, a group of mostly older guys, car and motorcycle and aviation enthusiasts, who welcomed me and became good friends.
And Arlyn was a friend ever since, as have been his family. He advised me and helped me, and made me laugh, and his friendship has been priceless.

Arlyn James Hausmann passed on September 30, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on February 2, 1935 and was a resident of The Woodlands, Texas.
A funeral service will be held at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 3801 S Panther Creek Dr, The Woodlands, TX 77381, US, on October 9, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.

A Reception will immediately follow at the same location. by @davidcarterstudio

I can remember in the county primary school, we little boys used to practice competitive peeing. Who could splash highest on the slate slab in the boys’ toilets? Distance peeing came later. Usually after a few beers.
But it looks as though The Royal Highland Show features competitive plopping too. by @davidcarterstudio

Almost 3 a.m. “gruff….GRUFF! Boss! Wake up! There are THINGS! Outside! NOW!! Deploy the canine!”
So I do. And I’m now awake. Two minutes later he saunters back in, jumps back on the bed and is instantly asleep. I, of course am not. by @davidcarterstudio

Facebook keeps sending me ads for Drone delivery. And I thought ‘Cool! Maybe I’ll take advantage of the free trial!’, and I looked it up. Yes, available to my address from the nearby Walmart!
So I thought, maybe I’ll put together a shopping list. I had a look in the fridge and started with a gallon of milk (yes, my British friends, we buy milk by the gallon here, but it’s a short gallon of 3.79 litres as opposed to 4.54… their pints are short too).
Anyway, I made that my first item. Squawk! Nope. Greyed out option. Why? Because the drone isn’t allowed to carry more than 2.5 pounds.
So the whole delivery by drone idea is rendered pointless unless I have an emergency need of a few marshmallows.
I deleted the app.
I wonder what a chicken karahi and a naan bread weighs? by @davidcarterstudio

My previous post was a Penny farthing with a Cyclemaster rear wheel. Here’s a Raleigh ladies’ bike from 1950 with the same 35cc motorised rear wheel. by @davidcarterstudio

In 1955 Leeds garage owner Rowland Winn modified a penny farthing to take a 32cc Raleigh Cyclomotor in the back wheel. Probably the first ever powered penny-farthing, also maybe the last. by @davidcarterstudio

In 2018, I took the road less travelled.
I went for a walk down "Mr Nobody Lane".
It looks as though Mr Nobody has next to no visitors. Apart from almost stepping on a snake, I met nobody and nothing much happened. by @davidcarterstudio
