Willem Dafoe most people know him from Spider Man, he has made over one hundred movies, bringing versatility, boldness and daring to some of the most iconic films of our time… but he got his start in theater at the University of Wisconsin but left to join “Theatre X” an experimental Wisconsin based theater troop, with which Dafoe toured for four years in 1977 he moved to New York City and joined the the “performance group “ and that’s just the beginning… I was fortunate to photograph Willem in Robert Wilson’s “The Life And Death of Marina Abramovic” … Robert Wilson writes”At the intersection of theater, opera and visual art, Robert Wilson’s reimagining of performance artist Marina Abramović’s extraordinary life and work begins with her difficult childhood in former Yugoslavia, and chronicles her journey to the present day. Abramović, who plays herself as well as her imposing mother, is joined by world-renowned actor Willem Dafoe and singer Antony, performing original music and songs created for this ‘quasi opera.’” taken in Bluma Appel Theatre by @davidleyes2

Today, on Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, I wanted to share this photograph from my archives of The Tragically Hip, photographed at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto on Canada Day, July 1, 2004.
Years later, Gord Downie would use his voice and his platform to help bring greater awareness to the story of Chanie Wenjack, the residential school system, and the importance of reconciliation through Secret Path and the work that followed.
Remembering, listening and learning.
Every Child Matters. ❤️

Thank you David Mickie, David Marsden, the MarsBar…. A True Canadian Icon, “ Dave Mickie alternately soars, groans, swings, sings, solos, intones and scampers …. Wrote Marshal McLuhan in 1964 , David certainly changed the way we listened and what we listened to! How many of us used to hear songs you would never hear on other radio stations … he lives on in all of us, the listeners, the artists that he championed and the free form broadcasting philosophy that prevents us from stagnating and keeps us listening to all that’s new and creative ❤️😘😈 thank you David ( shot at the Redwood Theatre March 5th 2026 thank you @robertpriestmusicpoet for opening the talk so beautifully) taken in The Redwood Theatre by @davidleyes2
