We're celebrating THREE things this weekend!

1) Budapest Park parkrun is back to having 9am starts through Autumn and Winter.

2) We're celebrating our 1st anniversary/birthday at Budapest Park. Canada's premiere parkrun event (as voted by myself).

3) The mothership (parkrun itself) is turning 22 this weekend! To celebrate, we're bringing out the tutus for tomorrow's run.

Please join us for the event debrief at around 08:50 before we kick off at 09:00.

Its been a funny few days for me as I realised August 25th was my 20th anniversary of moving to Toronto (the first time) as an exchange student. Also, apparently August 30th was my first experience of the Ex rolling into town, and BMO Field was slowly becoming a stadium for Toronto FC.

Quite a bit has changed over the years along the Medway, but somethings haven't.

Trying my first waffle cake or blooming onion and as usual getting a really bad sunburn (somethings really never change).

So enjoy some photos of the CNE and me from (can't believe I'm saying this... HALF a lifetime ago).

Not my usual content, but a few shots taken down by the lakeshore this evening to watch the lunar eclipse.

Shots were taken between 11:15pm and 12:15am on my phone at x30 zoom which is probably why you dont really see the red side of the eclipse. The last shot was taken at around x25 zoom which was just before the red got lost in the other images.

Quiet night down by the lake, even with the CNE going on.

It's Monday so time for the triathlon spam to continue with a #MedalMonday post.

Almost 15 minutes faster than last year's race, and a good 6 minutes clear of 2024 PB for this race.

Lots of room for improvement, but considering the tough race I had three weeks ago, it was nice to bounce back strong and confident-ish again.

Maybe a push for even bigger goals next season!

A certain Nelson Mandela once said, "do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again".

Words like these are probably the best way I could sum up yesterday's race... I didn't get a finish time, but I made sure that with the unfortunate swim portion, I still continued on and finished the Olympic Distance event.

I wanted to quit so many times during the swim. I couldn't breathe, or focus, lost my goggles on the jump into the water (life hack, googles on before you put your swim cap on over top), and ultimately after 800m in the freezing cold lake, I called it quits.

But, the one thing I like about this sport is that you can still finish the race. I've trained for not just the swim, but bike, and run, and I'd be damned if I didn't at least finish those.

The one thing training can never help you with however, is how to react to "adversity" or when it doesn't go to plan. Once I got back to the transition zone, I just stared at my bike not wanting to get out of my wetsuit and mount up. It took me about five minutes to convince myself to just get it over with.

I hated that ride (with the exceptions of the downhills), and when I dismounted to come back to transition, my knee felt off, and again I was left trying to convince myself to put on my running shoes, a knee brace, and get my 10km done. I really wanted to just walk out and not even do it, but again, I haven't come this far, to just get this far.

I can be very tough on myself mentally and "beat myself up" over things when it doesn’t plan out (in sports and in work trying to build a business). I probably had my best triathlon run yesterday, and I almost didn't do it because of my mindset during that bike ride.

So I may not be celebrating a PB, or an official race time. What I AM celebrating is finishing the race, even when everything fell apart at the start, and that I still had it in me, to push the negativity aside, and keep going, and finish with a sprint.

Triathlon is a very humbling sport, but you can learn a lot about yourself in the process.

On to the next race in three weeks.

Apparently we can now reply with photos and screen shots, so I wanted to try something out. For those of you with the @parkrunuk app, lets see those stats!

How many runs do you have? Do you have a goal in mind?

Where have you run, and how many of the 22 countries where parkrun is hosted have you ran?

How many times have you volunteered?

Favourite parkrun location?

Let me know in the comments below πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

The past few days (since Sunday) have been pretty productive. Slowly starting to feel like myself again, and building up slowly towards peak training season.

One easy thing I'm adding to the roster which is easing me back into things is getting out for a walk along the lakeshore. Just getting in the movement and steps for the day.

Sunday - πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈand πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ
Monday - πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ
Tuesday - Off site with work
Wednesday - πŸ‹β€β™‚οΈ
Thursday - steady 6.2km πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ
Friday - πŸ‹β€β™‚οΈ andπŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ
Saturday - parkrun
Sunday - πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈand steady 8km πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Another busy week ahead so trying to keep this consistency going πŸ’ͺ.

It's not a fad, or quick fix! This is a lifestyle change.

On the left, yesterday, and on the right, 2015. The fella on the right was playing basketball, football twice a week, and circuit training three times a week. I refused to go running, wasn't the strongest swimmer, and definitely didn't have a bike. I was also at my heaviest weight and unfortunately not outraining my terrible diet and habits.

Now at my lightest (and strongest) self at least as an adult, a new mindset on running and endurance sports, but also changing habits and my lifestyle. More importantly, this "new" version of myself started back in 2018 and has been a process over the last eight years with many ups AND downs along the way. This isn't a quick fix!

It's really amazing to think that todays version of me (yes, the one pushing 40) would have no issues leaving late 20s version of me.

But in all seriousness, the mindset I'm carrying with me is this: if youre tired of starting over, stop giving up!

It has been a while since I last did a weekly update on here, but life is starting to feel good again with training and what not. Closing out a somewhat decent month with the business too so hopefully thats a sign of things to come.

Trying to work on my patience and not immediately jump back into running four time a week, or going "fast" to push myself. Learning again to just take it easy and find a steady pace to build it all up again. A night run through Trillium Park and a course check at parkrun is enough for now.

Had my first (of back-to-back) double strength weeks in a while as well just to even it out with some upper body/core work. The press up challenge is also helping with that (735 for the week), IFKYK!

Came home tonight after a walk along the lakeshore to this stunning sunset as well. Going have a lot more of those now we're getting to spring.

Now time to build up on the consistency!
