#Author of #ForcedToMarryHim: A Lifetime of Tradition and the Will to Break It. My #memoir about my #truestory of #forcedmarriage. Aka @luchanik

POSTS STORIES REELS

Just had a wonderful zoom meeting with students from #CalStateSanMarcos and enlightened them on my story and how I was #ForcedToMarryHim, how this happened to me in the UK when I was engaged at just 14! Probably shocked them when I let them know how the nasty evil person I was forced to marry was strangling me and then sexually assaulted me. No one should ever be forced to marry a stranger and be put into danger. I got away from him that night. You can read about it in my book. I also told the students how we just banned child marriage here in California literally just weeks ago and how I made a song #letchildrenbechildren to appeal to @cagovernor to raise the marriage age to 18 and he did! He might not have heard my song, not sure - but he did what we survivors and advocates wanted so desperately- an end to child marriage. Our work is not done. #18Down32ToGo. We have to stop this #humanrightsabuse from happening in the other 32 states and we have to do it ASAP.

I hope I gave the students a lot to think about. I let them know not everyone gets freedom and the right to an education. I’m sure they will realize how lucky they are.

Oh by the way, my song is now on Amazon Music too. by @davinder_kaur_author

I just have to celebrate with this video and song! For everything we just had to do to get where we are today, it won’t be easy to give up the fight. But, we won finally in California! So extremely grateful for @cagovernor for signing the bill #AB1267. He’s absolutely amazing and pulled through for us. We were getting nervous though.

Thanks to @unchainedatlast who led the fight to push for change. Now, we have #18Down32ToGo. Thanks to all the survivors and advocates.

As for this song, it can be a reminder that child marriage is still happening in this country in all those other 32 states! Unacceptable. Let’s change that too. 🙏🏽

Today, survivors can go to bed thankful that our prayers were heard and what happened to us will at least not happen to other young girls in California, but our fight has to go on for all the children in the other states where this still remains a problem.

#celebrate our victory. This is a victory for all children in CA too. Thank you, Governor Newsom again from the bottom of my heart. ♥️ by @davinder_kaur_author

Come on Gavin, sign the bill! #AB1267 is waiting for you! It’s time to raise the marriage age to 18, no exceptions! CA will then be the 18th state to #banchildmarriage. #childmarriage is a #humanrightsabuse by @davinder_kaur_author

Here’s the full version of my new video #mysong #LetChildrenbeChildren.

#AB1267 the bill to raise the marriage age to 18 no exceptions is sitting on Governor Gavin Newsom ‘s desk and we need to all ask him: #ComeonGavin #SignTheBill. The kids of California need your help and protection, no other legislation can be more important. So, come on Gavin! Sign the bill! 🙏🏽 by @davinder_kaur_author

Just in case anyone thought #childmarriage and #forcedmarriage aren’t happening! I have to tell you - they are. No country is immune to this. It happens in England, Denmark, and the USA to name just a few places. It happens even here in California.

It’s a #humanrightsabuse. Please buy my book and learn about the atrocities young girls and women go through. Let’s #endit. Did you know forced marriage is a form of human trafficking? #awareness by @davinder_kaur_author

What a wonderful literary spotlight #GMBRadio put together for me. I recently was interviewed by them and they shared this. I quite like how they put it all together.

#ForcedToMarryHim is a book that was written by me and is my #memoir. True story of how I was forced to marry a stranger and was put into danger. I was robbed off my future and my freedom was taken away from me. Forced marriage and child marriage continue to happen all over the world and as a survivor of this human rights abuse, I know I have a duty to spread awareness so this atrocity may hopefully stop. If I can prevent this from happening to even one more girl, I will be extremely grateful. My book was written for a reason. People need to know the truth of what so many girls have suffered due to culture and tradition. However, it’s no one’s culture to abuse #endforcedmarriage #endchildmarriage by @davinder_kaur_author

It was so amazing to see this video today sent by someone in Canada who I will now regard as a friend. She invited me to speak virtually with her #bookclub and I’m sure you can guess which book was featured? My book #ForcedTomarryHim was the topic of conversation and it was a pleasure meeting the book club members too. Wish I could have been there in person. ❤️.

Hint: you could feature my book too at your book club, and I would love to attend it in person or virtually. I can answer all your questions about the book. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch. by @davinder_kaur_author

No child should be engaged at age 14! Yet it still continues to happen. Do you know that child marriage is still happening here in CA? The marriage age still hasn’t been raised to 18! Kids are still unprotected, parents are still coercing their kids into marriage and judges are still signing off, believing the parents have the best interests of the child at heart. Want to know more about my story? Please read my book #ForcedToMarryHim by @davinder_kaur_author

I was denied my rights to an education as my mum told me I didn’t need to go to college since I was getting married as soon as o turned 28! Forced marriage can happen at any age. Even when you’re an adult at 18, you were still a child the day before you turn 18. One day more doesn’t make you ready! When your families carry on tradition and culture that doesn’t work as in my case - Indian, but born in England - arranged marriage shouldn’t have been presented to me at 14. Do you know that forced marriage can happen at any age, not just as a child or at 18, but at 26, even at 40! Families carry a strong hold on their kids. They can easily coerce them if the family dynamics are such as mine were.

Please help end #forcedmarriage and #childmarriage. End #VAW #humanrightsabuses #ForcedToMarryHim by @davinder_kaur_author

Happy International Women’s Day! This is a day to empower ourselves as well as others! I was engaged at the age of 14 when I was shown a picture of the boy I had to get married to. No one should be forced to marry a stranger and be put into danger. In honor of #IWD2026 I share a short excerpt of my interview on #HerVoice which had many views and comments. I hope I’ve inspired others to know that we all have the right to choose who to marry and when to marry. #Education1st the marriage. Let kids be kids. #endchildmarriage #endforcedmarriage by @davinder_kaur_author
