Chicago never disappoints! My friend, Diane Ewing, and I explored several neighborhoods, museums, parks, an architecture tour and restaurants last week. Many, many steps!

I drove downtown intending to go to Hendersonville’s Apple Festival this morning; but there was lots of crowds, it’s hot and humid and I decided that I wasn’t up to it. So I went to Treska’s Tuesday Market instead. Thoroughly enjoyed it here, as always.

And…my wildlife pond has bloomed! However, no frogs yet…. 🐸 by @dawnwinterwnc

Another memory-making weekend with Rowan. We like to meet half way in between our homes and visit new-to-us towns.

This weekend was Staunton, VA. Beautiful mountain scenery, history, walkable downtown with coffeehouses, independent book stores, restaurants and time spent enjoying each other’s company. With some occasional snark thrown in.

I’d say this weekend was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’s

So I needed to get OUT and headed to Trailside Brewing Company (my favorite hangout spot) and grabbed a random place to sit. Not knowing I’d picked the best place ever to watch the World up Final! by @dawnwinterwnc

I've just returned from a recent trip to Aruba…an island bursting with diverse landscapes and incredibly friendly people! I savored every moment with old and new friends, and returned home with heartfelt gratitude.

Spring is emerging and this is always brings about a sense of hope for me.

This year’s projects include creating a new patio space, building a wildlife pond and winter sowing native pollinators for my garden ever expanding gardens!

I dug out the pond yesterday and added more flagstones. And mulched. (Not pictured).

And was walking rather slowly by the day’s end. 😁.

Apparently if you’ve grown up in Indiana, you’re bound to have a cornstalk growing in your flower garden! (See first photo)

Despite a hurricane, earthquake and too-close-to-home wildfires, Mother Nature has graced us with beautiful hydrangeas this spring/summer.

Finally….it feels like spring. Between Hurricane Helene and too-close-for-comfort wildfires, spring planting has begun and I am thrilled after a long 6 months.

My first shade garden is thriving and my newly created shade garden is showing signs of progress.

Scotland! Along with two friends. I traveled throughout this beautiful, barren, friendly, historic, complex and welcoming country over the last few weeks. Carrying only backpacks, we traveled via plane, train, car and ferry to several places to including the Isle of Islay…seeing Ireland off in the distance.

Cullen Skink soup, salmon (lots of), fish and chips, haggis bon bons, monkfish, porridge and a Full Breakfast were enjoyed. And four distilleries where tastings resulting with an appreciation for “peaty” whisky.

I took many photos…these are photos from Edinburgh, Dundee, Glasgow and Inverness only….

My latest backyard project. This is what layers of (Amazon) boxes, three (large) loads of soil/compost and a (bizillion) bags of pine mulch looks like. Plus a few native plants. Imagine next year after many more ferns, hostas, pollinators and flowering shrubs are planted!

I feel so fortunate to live where I do…(#westernnorthcarolina) four seasons and soil in which plants seem to thrive!
