Fieldwork is about learning through doing.

For Dayna (@daynadoodee), that means exploring alone - hiking trails across the world, documenting what she encounters and reflecting on our relationship with the outdoors.

As ‘Gorpcore’ continues to shape outdoor culture, @daynadoodee is asking how we can engage with hiking in a way that feels more considered and sustainable.

Considering most hiking clothes are made up of synthetic fibres.

We should try to purchase second hand when we can

All of these pieces are second hand. Soon to be listed on @acnd2acnd

The rise of gorp-core and hiking clothes are contributing to the overconsumption of outdoor gear

What do you think?

The best weather.

I slept in -9 degrees by the lake. BUT because i had a really good sleep system, i wasn’t cold NO WAY Dayna not cold while camping INSANE.

I got to the campsite and it was snowing so bad. I set up camp in the snow and then i realised i didn’t have a lighter for my stove WHOOPS. But this really friendly couple invited me to cook with them in their tent so i didn’t feel like i was alone. SO NICE

HELLO GUYS!!

If you are living in Melbourne! You can officially rent my camping gear.

You won’t have to buy cheap camping gear that won’t last you. And you don’t have to spent thousands on ultralight camping gear, that you might only use a couple of times. Instead you can use quality gear that will protect you from the elements. Not only is my gear in good quality condition, but it is also light and very warm. Don’t worry about having cold nights anymore. I will be posting more about the important of having quality and suitable outdoor gear while camping and hiking.

Dm me if you have any questions, I’ll be posting all of my gear on my page.

When I first started hiking, I borrowed my friend’s gear and I am so grateful because it allowed me to explore and try out products without having to invest in something very early on into my hobbies.

But even when i started buying my own gear, i didn’t do enough research on the products that would benefit me in the long run. I ended up having to upgrade all of my gear until i found products that were suitable for specific weather conditions. I’ve done the research so you don’t have to. I suffered so many freezing nights because I couldn’t afford expensive and quality gear. But now I’ve made the investment and I want to be able to share this with you.

Let me know your thoughts.

I want to start a discussion on how popular outdoor clothing has become. There’s a lot more influence in the media of outdoor fashion. A rising debate of how sustainable all of this new consumption is. What do you think?

Me I would say, we should utilise what we already have. But I don’t agree with slandering and hating on creatives for providing different options for new hikers. There is no point in hating if there is not a solution provided. But also for creators I believe we should be educating on what gear is needed and there benefits.

#Outdoorfashion #hiking

Thrifting and buying second hand outdoor gear is easier said than done. It’s often hard to find pieces that suit your personal needs, style and size.

ACND is here to provide you with different options. Here we build a community, education and an opportunity.

Thank you by @daynadoodee

Run with me to see the hot air balloons in GÖREME, TÜRKIYE

From my last Turkish video, I want to say that It was not my intention to make fun of anyone. I’m not doing anything for views or attention. I was just showing my experience, sharing it and hoping to show a little nice interaction I had on my travels.

If you could be a fruit, what fruit would you be?

My friend, Van, is inspiring me to be more symbolic.

I believe berries are a symbol of connection and sharing.

Let me tell you a story.
On the last day of my 8 day hike through the Tour Du Mont Blanc, I was picking blueberries. With an amazing view. I met a couple from Bristol, and they told me to pick the berries with red in the inside and not white. They explained that the coloured berries tastes a lot better. I thanked them for telling me because I had no idea. In the supermarkets the blueberries are white in the inside. It was just so wholesome, from picking berries together, it was an invitation to start a conversation.

I continued walking, however they caught up to me when I was taking a break before another ascend. I ended up walking with them for an hour until we took another break. They offered me snacks and drinks, before I set off to finish my hike. I was so behind, but I’m so glad I had stopped and took the to time to know this couple. I learnt so much from them and I really aspire to be like them when I grow up.

They invited me to stay with them for 2 nights, and I took the offer. They were the best people I’ve met on the trail. To think we were strangers picking blueberries. Now they are people who I look up to. I stay in contact with this couple to this day. I think it is so special to be able to connect with people on the trail.

So blueberries are my little opening to great connections. A little reminder how hiking is a safe space to learn and connect.

HAPPY HIKING

My one and only hiking pants,

I bought these 2 years ago at a vintage store in Copenhagen for about $100 AUD.
But I have worn them everywhere and anywhere.
The best pants you could ever have is something functional, whilst looking clean and casual.
Even though i spent a lot of money on a pair of pants, I can say that I’ve worn them so much that the price should’ve been way more.
People keep asking me where I got my pants from. And I feel sad every time I say i thrifted them.
This is one of the reasons why I started this account. I want to be able to source pieces that might be the perfect one for someone. Something unique and functional at the same time.
There is something about backpacking, that means you have to pack smart and wisely. Finding the right piece that you can take everywhere.
ID - these are Freeman T Porter 2 way zip hiking pants, this brand, isn’t even a known brand for hiking pants. Which is so surprising, because they are so abrasion resistant, quick drying, lightweight and WOW EVERYTHING SO GOOD.

Thanks for listening. AND WELCOME TO ACND.

I went on a run in love valley in Göreme,Turkey,

I just happened to meet this guy selling grapes and apples. He didn’t charge me, I think he just wanted someone to talk to. He told me anyone comes past, they ignore him so saddd. Even though we didn’t speak the same language, I felt like I could communicate with him pretty well. Funny guy

He educated me on the area, i think, anyway i kind of just chilled eating grapes and he pushed me on the swing.
