Fuzzy screen capture from a video taken on the day KAMU-FM signed on the air almost 50 years ago at Texas A&M in College Station TX. Oh my. That’s me. This 17-year-old had no idea where the world would take her! by @daynasteele

We met in a small upstate New York airport. His ride was late. I came out of the ladies room and couldn’t find my family. He told me they had already walked out to the plane. We laughed at my first world problem - I couldn’t find our tiny plane behind all the big planes at the small Hamptons’ airport.

We talked about my involvement with the United Cerebral Palsy telethon several years in a row in Houston. He lived in Houston as a child at one point.

After comparing notes for a few minutes, we came to the conclusion he had to have been one of the kids Lanny Griffith or I held when we would do this telethon each year at the Galleria. RJ and his Mom participated in the telethons the same years I emceed.

He was kind, he was charming, we had a lovely conversation, took a picture, and had a hug goodbye. I posted it as we took off and he waved at our departure. He commented, liked, and shared the post. His fans blew it up for a few days. RJ was so loved by the Breaking Bad fans.

I’ll always remember that brief interaction and was just talking with someone about @rjmitte over the weekend.

The news is sad.

Congrats to the Trades Women Build Nations 2026 conference planners and attendees. I live across the park from where your event was held and had a ball meeting so many of you on our morning walks. As a 38 year proud union member, you were a bunch of rockstars to behold! Hmmm. Maybe Kansas City will need a rockstar keynote speaker for the 2027 event ... just sayin’! #twbn2026 #twbn2027

Keynote links in my bio. 😎 by @daynasteele

Now that I have a bit of extra time on my hands, I've taken my favorite past conversations and pulled them all together in one podcast. New episodes coming soon. Here was one of the most listened to episodes I did with Kip Winger, such a talented guy and now a classical composer as well as a rocker. I was so fortunate to be given this piece of Susan Stein artwork after my dear friend Jeanie Cunningham passed away. Just another friendly reminder that we will dedicate Jeanie‘s Star on the @pswalkofthestars the morning of November 16. It is free and open to the public and begins at 10:30 that morning in front of the restaurant @eight4nine at 849 N. Palm Canyon in Palm Springs. Miss you Jeans. by @daynasteele

I love public transportation and easily use it all over the world. My hometown #houston is trying but it’s still not easy. Since we are spending more time downtown for work, I am challenging myself to learn AND see why more people don’t use it.

Day 1 observations:

A nice walk with good weather but I can see where that’s an issue during rain or heat. But people do it all the time in other cities.

Loading the digital card is clunky.

Easy to scan at the train stop but hard to find any proof you’ve paid if asked. That needs to be easier to pull up.

Wow @metrohouston loves their train air conditioning. Brrr.

NO ONE IS GOING TO RIDE THE TRAIN DOWNTOWN IF THEY CAN’T BRING THEIR COFFEE WITH THEM IN THE MORNING. And their breakfast taco etc.

I carried my coffee on the train and had a very pleasant ride from downtown to @theionhouston. I was oblivious to the fact I was breaking a big fat rule.

I enjoyed the experience so much that I came back, got Wonder Husband, and we jumped back on at McKinney and Main to the @tet_houston station and went to the revolving sushi restaurant. @kurasushi_usa

Metro needs to make the app easier to use and they have to change some of the rules making it more rider friendly.

All in all yes, I will use the @metrohouston train more.

Next Metro adventure: Later today we are going to ride the east/west one all the way both ways to see where we can go. I’m bringing a bottle of water. #rebel by @daynasteele

Every time I walk into @theionhouston for a meeting, the floor immediately takes me back to the original @sears and scratchy Easter dresses and tight uncomfortable patent leather shoes and white tights. And I smile. 😎 by @daynasteele

Travel much? A tip or at least an observation ...

I’ve been on 10 flights since July 28, and EVERY SINGLE FLIGHT has made the same announcement:

“The overhead bins are going to be full. Please check your carry-on.”

And every single time, once the doors close, there’s still plenty of overhead bin space.

Different airlines. Different airports. Same announcement.

I’m told it’s based on an algorithm predicting how much bin space will be needed. But there’s another benefit: getting passengers to check bags speeds up boarding, gets everyone settled faster, and can help empty the plane faster at the other end — all of which helps airlines turn planes around more quickly.

Meanwhile, those of us who gate checked our bags are standing in the jetway waiting for them.

FYI

After 11+ flights, I’m beginning to think “the overhead bins will be full” may not really be about the overhead bins. ✈️ 😎 by @daynasteele

One of the first things I felt when Mom was gone after a long journey with Alzheimer's was ... nothing. Just numbness. Not at all what I was expecting. Just nothing. I told someone it felt like being in a big stadium long after the band and fans had gone and the crew had packed up and moved on. Just standing there wondering what I was supposed to do next.

I am working on a chapter in a book about this feeling and looking for other stories. Do you have one? Were you struck by the feeling of nothing when it was finally all over?

You can tell me here or privately on Messenger or dayna@daynasteele.com.
